Unpopular Animal You Really Want

So in an ideal world, these are animals I would personally like to see:
  • Malaysian tiger
  • American black bear
  • Little blue penguin
  • Some kind of wallaby species
  • Emu
Aside from the emu, the other 4 aren't particularly popular. I would like them for diversity's sake, but not at the expense of more unique animals. That's why I say in an ideal world I'd like these animals.

Some of the animals which are here listed are not really unpopular like the small cats or the red fox as examples.
I make a cut at 20 votes or less in the meta wishlist as my personal definition of unpopular around the Forum and there are some animals I would like to see in the game like the muntjac, the pudu or the agouti. Also the aoudad would be a nice additional goat. As a small cats which is very low in the meta wishlist the jaguarundi would be a nice additional for me.
If I would go a bit higher in the meta wishlist the Kirks Dik Dik is the animal I really would like to see in the game (about place 60-65, 36 votes I think).

Having a look at my meta list, I have a handful which are currently either sitting joint last as I was the only one to vote for them or I cannot find them in the list. including some of my favourite animals in the world, but I guess they will never make it into the game as others have taken their slot. I certainly have a few, but the ones that immediately come to mind...

1. Striped Skunk. The Striped Skunk has definitely gained a bit of popularity on the wish lists, but it is still definitely not in the higher ends of popularity. However, it is one of my favourite animals and one that is commonplace in a lot of zoos, especially here in the UK. I’d love to see any skunk species, but I think the Striped is the one that has the largest chance of making it into the game.
2. Wisent. The European Bison is one animal which I would happily pay for! I much prefer them to their American counterparts, partly due to the fact that I’m from the UK (where a population is currently being reintroduced). Would be a low effort animal to make for Frontier, but would help ENDLESSLY to boost my European sections in zoos beyond just the Europe DLC and the Timber Wolf.
3. Fruit Bats. Look, I know everyone is hyped about birds but what I’d be most excited for if a flying mechanic was introduced would be bats. Some of my favourite habitats at zoos i’ve visited have been the fruit bat walk through enclosures, like the ones in Chester or Longleat. To be able to recreate these would be INSANE!
4. Senegal Bushbaby. If you couldn’t tell already by the skunk and bag inclusions, I absolutely love small mammals and nocturnal house species. The Senegal Bushbaby is one of those species that ENCOMPASSES the nocturnal house feel. We definitely need more species like it, but I think the Bushbaby would certainly be my top choice for nocturnal primate, that I haven’t seen requested much at all.
5. Alpaca. I KNOW we already have the llama but HEAR ME OUT. A mixes species Llama and Alpaca enclosure would add a sense of realism to my zoos, particularly smaller builds or any kind of build that has a petting zoo. I know fully domesticated farm species (cows, chickens, goats) are HIGHLY unlikely, but I don’t think an Alpaca is too unreasonable (especially since we got the Llama). I think it would almost definitely be an unpopular pick for a DLC, but I’d be delighted to see its inclusion!

Anyway, that’s my two pence. I’d love to see all these species added in some day, it would get me one step closer to building my dream zoo!

While I’m neutral to most of these picks, I totally agree on the skunk. Great North American pick!

And these 3 animals would go along side the Alpine marmot and either the ocellated lezard or the vipera ammodytes as exhibit in a very unlikely and controversial European mountain pack)
Ayy, a fellow Mediterranean I suppose. You just reminded me of my struggle.

The most common snake in my place by far is vipera ammodytes. And I always struggled when I spoke on English sites about it, because of its distribution it seemed almost like it has no English name.

So I called it Vipera ammodytes just like you for the longest time. I think that's the one Latin name I know by heart 😁

It's European Nose Horned Viper, just to help for future

Well “unpopular “ is kind of hard to gauge to be honest. Yes, there is the Meta-List, but only a small fraction of those who play PZ have participated in it (in no way am I trying to knock it though, Random Goat has done an amazing job of maintaining it!) Additionally, it seems that different sub-communities have different opinions on what’s really needed for PZ’s roster as well. Here, there’s a lot of support for primarily terrestrial mammals that are common in zoos, other places (PZ Discord communities, Reddit, Youtube CCs) there are different species and animal types often brought up.

With this said, my most “unpopular take” going strictly by this forum’s standards is the hope to see fully-aquatics officially in PZ. Sharks, fish, largely aquatic turtles, rays, eels, crustaceans, a cetacean or two. I’d love to see some representation of the truly aquatic kind. My ponds/streams, aquariums, and underwater viewing areas feel so static and lifeless. Just imagine a garden area with Koi Fish and turtles or a glass underwater tunnel with sharks or dolphins passing by overhead. I can dream I suppose 😝

As for terrestrial habitat species, I’d love to have some additional habitat reptiles that aren’t crocodilians (not that crocs aren’t great, it’s just there’s so little of every other reptile kind). Turtles, tortoises, larger lizards, and if Frontier was real generous some snakes; there’s no shortage of options. And I’d give my right arm for some habitat amphibians and invertebrates. A Chinese or Japanese Giant Salamander and a Coconut Crab would be the dream (really surprised/happy to see so much appreciation for the Coconut Crab in this thread btw, gives me some hope!)

Coconut Crab Fun Fact: they can actually be pretty fearsome predators. Occasionally, they are known to prey upon shorebirds, even species far larger than them!

The coyote gets a lot of "meh" reactions here, but it's consistently been in my top 30 or 20 since launch. I get it, it's another canid that is very similar to a wolf. But I would still like it nonetheless.
My problem with the coyote is the why question. Why should it be in the game and what would it add? Same deal with for example the whitetailed deer, my personal pet peve animal i really dont want in the game and even made a whole thread about.
Both arnt present internationally in zoos and also arnt particulary unique compared to their more commom counterparts around the world or even in the Us itself, like the rosevelt elk and the red fox

I think it's mostly because of soemthing like what the platypus and proboscis monkey adds: local fauna.

I've never seen a coyote in a zoo, only in the wild. White-tailed deer are perfect for representing local wildlife, particularly Texas; and let's not forget that they have a wide range, from the US all the way to Brazil and northern Argentina (I believe). It'd be like the puma (which, in a sense, is the same as all the other cats, AI-wise): not much different than what we already have, but extremely versatile and can represent various biomes

But like you said, they arnt held in zoos. Isnt it even illegal in some Us States to keep native animals that arnt rescues in zoos?
And for the proboscis monkey, no one likes the proboscis monkey, but atleast its a very unique animal and the only flaw is its non existant captive presence. Now imagine what backlash a brown dog without any unique characteristics that is illegal to be kept in its native range will get and i do believe woth a good reason.
If its about local fauna, there are like i said many better choices, even in their own families that are both more unique and actually have a captive presence.
Even if we are talking about just your garden variety critters, a skunk, racoon, opossum and black bear all fullfill that, but are actually present in zoos, unique and wanted by the community.

I dont mean this like a "you shouldnt like this animal or not want it" but its just a case where an unpopular animal has a clear reason to be unpopular.

Personally i wouldnt mind the coyote in the game, but i can totally understand anybody that does

I don't even know if coyotes are illegal to keep or not, honestly. I think they're illegal as pets, for sure, but not sure about zoos.

In the case of the deer, honestly it's the only deer I've seen in zoos
