A few little building questions

Hello everyone,

I slowly get the hang of building after watching quite a few videos. Here's my questions where I haven't found a solution yet:

1. Is it possible to make a barrier in open water which is invisible, so that the animals can't swim further than this area but you don't have to see some fences stick out? I tried once with the invisible barrier, turned out that the flamingos couldn't get into the water at all unless I included the whole lake.

2. I can't group rocks. When I use the group tool, I can only save a blueprint but not have these rocks as a group and copy them. I see others doing that all the time, so what am I missing?

3. I've seen people build with aquatic rocks that had a dark grey color. My aquatic rocks are yellow and there's no option to color change them. Where do the dark grey aquatic rocks come from?

Thank you all!

1. You could attempt using elephant grass to serve as a barrier. Not sure if it works though. Never tried that.

2. You should be able to group all items. It might be called 'move selection' though. You click that and they'll be grouped together.

3. The aquatic rocks are recollorable. You can even find some workshop items with color pallets close to the 'normal' rocks. Just search for 'faux rock colors'.

Unless you have "escapes" turned off, the flamingos should be able to get into water that is marked off, as long as the bank isn't too steep. HOWEVER, just know that animals can walk through the null barrier (the invisible barrier you mentioned). It marks off a habitat's edges but does nothing to stop animals.
2. I can't group rocks. When I use the group tool, I can only save a blueprint but not have these rocks as a group and copy them. I see others doing that all the time, so what am I missing?
I don't know. Maybe it's a glitch?

There's a flexicolor option. Look for the paint palette symbol, then click it and pick a new color.

Thank you for your replies! I did get a "move" option when I grouped the rocks, but I assumed this would move them, as indicated, and not group and copy them. I will try out next time. As for the invisible water barriers I think I'll have to put some glass fence peaking out, which is a pity. I would really love to see such an option implemented :)

If you want the group of rocks copied, you either have to group them together and then click douplicate in the info panel or select them and press either ctrl+d to duplicate them or ctrl+x (or z depending on your short keys) to advance move duplicate.

The water barrier works just fine with the null barrier. All you have to do is build some natural barriers over it so the animals can't escape, it doesn't have anything to do with them reaching the water at all though. If they couldn't reach it until you made the habitat bigger chances are the shore wasn't smooth enough and they couldn't get to the water in the first place. You can use the traversable area heatmap to check that.

All the fake rocks are also recolorable, you just have to scroll down a bit in the menu on the right when you select them in the building tab. Or you change it after placing them in the info panel that comes up.

When I went back into the game, I could group the rocks. Didn't work before. I'm still in a place where a lot of stuff in the game just happens and I have no idea why. Thank you all for your replies!
