It's because they don't like the content and the popularity of the message in their small world... they have no opposing voice cos only a very small group actually listens no matter how many times they post messages.
The truth is Obsidian Ant is not a 'Doomsayer' he's clearly someone that wants Elite to be in a much better place than it is and has grown intolerant at the lack of real support and effort and is simply pointing that out, sharing that frustration... What he's really saying is he doesn't want Elite to fall by the wayside that the doom is averted by addressing some critical issues instead of pumping out dumbass community goals and community streams that go out of there way to avoid the no.1 topic most people are interested in.
How can a youtube video giving opinions on a game do harm?
This is not a thread about SC, and being it the same fraudolent game as always, it has been fairly treated as an early access all this time. E: D is a complete game, wether you like it or not. And it's an online game, whether you like it or not too.
This can't be changed by the definition one or many give to the game. Release and Online aren't matter of taste, are facts and objective points which can't be just "discussed" because there's nothing to discuss.
This said, a RELEASED MMO (yo solo players, you're online even when playing solo and also actively changing the game world, so E: D falls completely in the MMO category) like E: D is deserves to be treated as such.
- Communication
- Constant updates for bugfixing / addressing
- Regular content (new or revised)
- A treatement worth of a "Game as a Service" which E: D is.
- Stop treating E: D just like a money machine.
FDev games are mostly "una tantum" priced. You buy a copy, Dev get the money.
E: D is one of a kind in FDev's Roster and this seems to be what's keeping the game up and running the most, and tbh, a game like E: D shouldn't be just treated like a money machine.
Even because, with the right amount of work, investment, and IDEAS, E: D could turn substantially in a 3 times now worthy AAA game, flooding FDev's pockets with tons of money more than now, just because it exists.
So stop criticizing @Obsidian Ant just because he's being realistic on where we are headed and what we saw. You all saw that yourselves.
By doing so you're becoming exactly the kind of people you're blaming as of now, and this will produce no good at all.
Criticism by OA has always been constructive over time, and wheter you like it, dislike it, love or hate it...he stood for a lot of valid points, both in this and in the previous video.
If you think he's dooming and/or just weaving in the wind, you'd better watch more of his video history about E: D, and also re-think how deeply you know E: D for real.

Actually, last year he came in and said that he's no longer that pushed about Elite, that he's more focused on gaming in general, that he was planning on winding down his coverage for Elite videos, maybe putting out a one a month "checking in on Elite" one, for the subscribers he has who still play it.
Something must have come up that's caused that notion to change, and it would be cynical of me to suggest its clickthroughs and revenue.

One of the reasons I have an absolute distaste for the posting of YT videos in the way done in the original post here is that it inherently makes the thread about talking about someone instead of talking to them, or about what they have to say.
Looking at OA's channel, it's pretty much exactly that so far this year. A range of games, occasional ED videos when an update drops, and a few recent vids coinciding with the ongoing what-the-heck-is-happening EDO drama.
So it doesn't look like anything HAS changed.
When i grow up i want to be just as unbiased and balanced and speech fluid as you are over a computer game.
Unfortunatly OA is completely silent with no updates to his community on what's going on, but we can check his steam stats and see a fall in monthly gained subscribers. I'm just saying it the way "I see it" guys but I think we can all conclude that he's dying of easter egg poison.

Which would be a continuation on fixing the issues of a release from last May, with very little new content in between. This, in-itself, is a problem.
Of course, all software has bugs.
However, well managed software projects don't have 11 months of continuous bug fixing, with very little new content. Yes, indeed, a big, giant red flag of how well Odyssey was managed.
Elite is supposed to be a live, evolving game, with a continuing story line, however, the story line has barely moved in several years. Narrative driven stories in the form of Galnet, that isn't player interactive doesn't count so much...
Not all is well with Elite, sadly.
Can FD turn this around? I very much hope so. We'll see.
Comparing honest feedback and discussion about a videogame to domestic abuse is a stretch in my opinion.
I just watched the video, and I think he makes really good points that he backs up with solid evidence. That doesn't mean he is right or wrong (those who assert something subjective is correct only when they agree with it have a god-complex). I'll also grant that his title is click-baity, and he was a bit more wordy than I prefer. It's also not my favorite OA video by a long shot. But his points are worth discussing all the same. I just don't see having that discussion here.

Luckily ED runs on normal computers not gift packs, so the company didn't need to send out a new $1000s rig just to run their over-demanding game on

Obsidian Ant before the Odyssey mess, was one of the most positive Elite Dangerous supporters but after Odyssey his videos have gotten progressively more critical as his frustration grows.

Yes but we're allowed to criticise, apparently, according to the doom-vid defenders. Can't have it both ways, FDev being allowed to be bashed but their bashers not being allowed to be bashed. that'd be hypocritical.
Your confirmation bias is apparent from the phrase "downward spiral". There is no such thing.
