I still like Horizons!

Normally I try to hold back because I already realise that it sounds a bit boastful. But since your statement is hardly better, I'm going to go out on a limb: I could, and a little later I had the opportunity to find out whether I was just kidding myself or not. I will only say this much: Just because you can't do it doesn't mean that nobody can.
That's fair.... I was absolutely floored when I first tried VR... I could never play another game where I wasn't 'inside' the game since..... OK, you imagined it, did you like it when you did it?

I'm guessing you either tried it on a bad headset with screen-door effect or no peripheral view... or you haven't developed VR legs yet.... A good quality VR setup can make or break the VR experience and actually be the cause of sickness if the framerate isn't setup right. And VR legs can take time to develop (about a week or two of heavy play) But on a good setup, your brain will believe you ARE in Your ship! I do have a Oculus Quest 2 for example, but I absolutely never use it for ED, the peripheral view is pretty bad and the color gamut is very washed out and it doesn't have true black tones, only greys.... So I mis-spoke.... Playing ED on a high quality VR headset and system is a game changer! (and by the way, I'm not rich, I had to do overtime at work to invest in a 'better' headset... Not trying to crap on Oculus, it's good in other areas like sim racing and sport sims and I even prefer it over my main headset for some titles... just not in 'dark' games where you may need to keep an eye out on your sides. Could possibly be better in EDO with the atmospheric planets, maybe)
Ah I do have a Quest 2, so good save by shifting the goal posts. But my PC is decent and can't run EDH in VR at low settings well at all, despite running it very well non-VR and handling other VR games fine.

I actually have my SteamVR "home" room set up as being one of the dwellings inside a station which shares the interior features of my home station ingame.

It's a dangerous opinion to have on this forum my friend.

Is it? Not really. Its okay to be honest. I don't mind if those 4 people don't like me.

Elite's community has always had some balance, especially here on the forums. If someone is toxic at you don't reply. Its the easiest solution.

Its a funny world tho isn't it? You have to be positive about elite, but only about odd. Being positive about horizons is about the same as being positive about star citizen to those people. Pay it no mind.

Kudos, that is dedication!
The irony is that I don't actually play ED on PC. Have only done that on a friend's system but it was a breathtaking experience every time. Console's where the vast majority of my friends were when I started out. Most of my VR stuff is games like Subnautica, where the feeling of the HMD actually adds to the immersion (no pun intended) since your character has a similar mask on.

Yes, I liked the first impressions from flying and mining. But it could by no means compensate for all the disadvantages compared to a good monitor. As soon as I no longer have to carry a 2 kg heavy, uncomfortable box on my head and get comparable resolutions (to name just the two aspects that are most important to me, but which are by no means all of them) - then it could become interesting for me. Not before. And since my imagination still works quite well, I don't need it for the time being.
lol, I got a bucket list full of VR problems.... the Much lower resolution and the bulk of the headset aren't even on the top of my list... I've spent so much time in Elite VR that it's actually disfiguring my forehead with a dark line that's taking longer and longer to go away each day and may become permanent.... If the IPD (pupil measurement) is off I get massive headaches after use... I can't fill up a decent sized Mining ship cause if I have to run to the bathroom my headset will go into standby mode after a while so I'll come back to the game, turn it on and be greeted by a new set of pirates with a trunk full of Diamonds (and I'm in my 50's so it's about 3 asteroids then gotta 'run again').... I can't touch type, so the chat box is out the window... With HGE mats, it's on & off with the headset every time I have to keep re-spawning the site, on & off, re-center my eyes..... Cant use Inara real time to get prices or locations... gotta exit out just to cut and paste in the map..... Cant use Spanche to do the Neutron highway for the same reasons..... And god forbid I have to travel 300k L/S to a location sitting in VR looking at a backdrop that doesn't change for 20 minutes, falling asleep crashing into planets... I fear a trip to Hutton Orbital in VR.... Have to troubleshoot my whole system every time ANYTHING updates cause now I'm back to lagging again, I just sneeze and it's lagging.... Most headsets you need to activate Windows Virtual 3D audio to have proper surround sound in VR but nobody ever tells anyone that stuff and other things..... My eyeball sometimes dry out to the point my blinking gets stuck...

Bruv, there's a whole lot wrong with VR, it's still in baby stages... but even with all that, none of it compares to 'Being there' for me, VR forehead and all.... But I'm definitely hearing you. Another 5-10 years gonna be very interesting! And even though I have other VR FPS's that out classes EDO legs by a long shot like Onward and others... I would Fully support a full price purchase of Odyssey if they just converted the already possible 'Space-Legs' to VR.

And that is exactly what I wanted to say: With a good imagination, you can create a very similar effect in your head. Not everyone is able to do that, obviously, and I can even imagine by now that it also becomes increasingly difficult the more you've played in VR. That's why I like to compare VR to a highly addictive drug (and thus regularly annoy die-hard VR fans). I'm just not sure if you're still "outside" and objective enough to still follow me here...
I forgot to mention my biggest VR frustration... I'm a photographer... In VR the shots are not only Fisheyed.. not only Portrait.. but also low(er) res because of the format... And being a photographer I'm already visualizing the 2D image to try to get the best angle, so whoever looks at that 2D image can get a feel for what the real thing in person must have been like... So I can totally close my eyes right now and let the entire Galaxy fill my mind and SEE that huge asteroid sitting right next to me...

But that's Exactly why I LOVE Elite Dangerous so much.... A lot of people call this a 8 year old game, but it's actually a 38 year old game from 1984 developed with the LOVE of science and accuracy, even compared to NASA's actual documentation. So yes I can Imagine the wake gap in the ring of Saturn left by the tiny moon Pan and Daphnis, but because of the original Elite team that designed this world to be as accurate as possible... VR allows me to GO there and sit in the wake and feel it's vastness. In the game Pan is not present... so I found a Core asteroid and exploded it in Pans wake so the cloud would look like Pan from a distance, and took a picture of it... I can always look back at that picture and Imagine it, remember it, close my eyes and see it........ But with VR having 6DOF... I now KNOW what it was like cause I went there, I put my feet up on the dashboard (AKA my Otterman) and I looked out the windows of My Asp X... and I leaned over and looked out my co-piolets windows below me, turned my real head around and looked out the glass windows above me...... and even though I wasn't looking at the sun off to my right, I could still see the glimmer shine from a sun beam in my eyeball cause the designers of Horizons thought far enough to make sure thar glimmer would be present, cause it would be in real life... That's why Odessey scares the crap out of me... what do you mean 'repeated patterns all across a planet isn't worth the time to fix when the community is yelling out for it. Do Not crap on a masterpiece of work........ Elite Dangerous is Magical because it can take you and show you what thing are really like, not just imagination, and VR takes it even further by putting you IN.. that world. None of us alive today will ever actually go to these places.............. But I've Been there, and it has saved my life at a very dark time (when I got very sick). And right now, people who care more about a crappy FPS that doesn't even stack up to half the FPS already on the market is threatening to take all my ultra-accurate adventures away from me. They even thought to put in Hutton Orbital cause for the last fifty years we always thought that Proxima Centauri would be our Very First extra-solar colony because we would first only be able to get in from the rear of the next closest system. Hutton Orbital is a monument to our first travels.

So yeah, I'm Outside, Inside and every side I can be. Imagine me small like a quark and big as Hubble Ultra deep field...

Oh, was actually my Krait, lol....

The first time I dropped out of supercruise and a star exploded in my face in VR I was hooked. Now over 3500 hours in VR Horizons stills rules.

I used to spend over $600.00 a year for flat screen games, then finding Elite Dangerous, Horizons VR I haven’t bought one flat screen game in 3 years.

Recently I have found another amazing VR game, DCS World. So if Horizon’s goes away there’s DCS

I was VR early adopter and bought Oculus DK1 early 2014. I was blown away, I even configured my own controlling method with Wiimotes and GlovePie scripts to create "roomscale" like experience, before there even was roomscale. I played Doom III, Alien Isolation, Skyrim (before real vr support) etc. using that method, good times.

Needless to say I also loved ED in VR. And I still do! But I have no problem playing flat screen too and I like Odyssey very much.

Currently I would say it's more dangerous to like Odyssey because so many people on this forum just hate it. And I have to admit, I thought @Erei meant me because I said that I like Odyssey, if you just like Horizons you are pretty much part of the majority here.

It’s not that I hate Odyssey, it’s there is nothing in Odyssey for me in VR and the performance is lacking.
Give us VR support and I am there.

I wouldn't mind having more of an opportunity to dislike Odyssey, but with my fairly niche hardware and the changes to the game rendering, it's somewhat out of my hands. Oh well. Otherwise walking around the hanger and that sort of thing seems rather nice for a change of scenery and bit of immersion, teleporting or whatever not withstanding. Better than nothing.

I'd like to suggest there's something else that might be going on here. Eg, if you look closely at the thread in the odd forum about liking the game.. 90% of the posts there are either player to player toxicity or direct spam. There's very little going on about the game. In other threads, where a certain crowd have yet to contribute, its possible for people to hear out different opinions and respectfully move on? Amazing? Also where they are abesent 80-90% of the threads are pure elite game discussion. I think you were around back then, remember the forums had a great time like this for years, it was only 6 months before odd was released that the new crowd + certain people started posting again that made things not very civil / dangerous.

Having an opinion whatever it may be is not a reason to be wary.

Very well said, indeed I would add the “flight sim” aspect of ED in VR is quite amazing. I fly IRL and with VR a HOTAS and peddles its a really close experience. People think IRL visibility is all 4k ultra, it’s not, especially summer days, its hazy as crap with shimmering and loss of detail. Very similar to todays VR headsets.

Just add them to your ignore list, they are easy to spot not because they offer opposing views its because they can't help adding some kind of derogatory, nasty or inflammatory remark that somehow avoids moderation... its less than 10 people in reality.
