ObsidianAnt: Frontier - What The HECK Is Going On With Elite Dangerous?

Some good points yourself there as well. 👍

I’d imagine you’re right about FD still being a bit on edge from the initial EDO release. I think there’s a whole load of other stuff going on as well, and what we’re experiencing is the cumulative effects.

Anyway, as we’re having a sensible conversation, something I think that would be interesting to consider in more detail is if we assume that my assertion in the previous post is accurate, then how could FD improve their communication?

It illustrates the problem with a lot of the more general simplistic suggestions. What ever FD communicate will be taken in different ways by different people depending on their degree of expectation alignment. Are there ways they could communicate that would account for that and work well in practicality?
They are in a tough spot communication-wise. It does feel as though the community as a whole is clamoring for some nugget of information on where they're wanting to take EDO. They've given these vague promises of exciting new content but have been pretty silent since. In my opinion, to improve communication they would need to step out on a limb and offer a hint of what this new, exciting content might be. They would need to fill these large gaps of silence with just a nugget of something to keep the community interested and excited. Saying "we can't wait to share something exciting" isn't the same as saying something vague like "get your rifles ready!". Get my rifle ready for what? Are they changing on-foot combat? Are we getting the thargoid foot soldiers that people have been talking about? It would create excitement that I think this community needs.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with NMS updates from Hello Games, but when an update is coming out Sean Murray tweets a single emoji that somehow references the update. Most recently was the jolly roger flag and the community goes crazy with speculation. The NMS YouTubers put out video after video of speculation on what might be included and the community excitement and activity are noticeably higher, just from an emoji.

Hyperbole - "a super-exaggerated way of describing something for the sake of emphasis that often borders on the fantastical or ridiculous."

Nonsequiter,

Specific to this case a random fact in lieu of an insightful response.

I'm not kidding. Flat earth has garbage for evidence, but equally so does ite doomerism. The flatters at least have some, admittedly terrible evidence though.

What evidence supports that Elite is doomed?

Yup,

You claim they must show the game has a future.

I'm honestly at a loss as to what you think that means as a future to me would include anytning other than the game shuts down.

Given the evidence of active development, active promotion and continued service availability against the evidence of? Tinfoil? Nutters?

What has you worried about the future?

I do not think that the game will be shut down in one or two months.

but what is possible is, that the budget and effort may be reduced over time and FD will keep the game in stagnation state. Also just because a company is promoting a product, it does not mean that the product is good or in our case healthy.
Some significat changes happened in the last time, console version has been cancelled, tiling fixing cancelled. Now that ED has become a PC only game, I would like to see a sign that the PC version of ED will be improved and expanded beyond just bugfixing to keep the remaining player in the game.

I would prefer to write this in my native language because in english I miss some words to express what I mean.

What evidence supports that OA's video (the topic of this thread last I checked) declares that Elite is doomed? As for evidence of OA's specific claims about communication, he provides plenty in his video. And regarding OA's admittedly provocative "It feels like a sinking ship" opening (emphasis on "feels"), one just needs to look at the 1000+ comments on that video, the reviews and ratings of Odyssey, or the various official statements from Frontier, including a number of apologies from the CEO himself, not just to this community, but to his shareholders as well.

I don't think Elite is definitively doomed in the same way I am certain the earth is a globe rather than a disc, nor do I see OA stating that as fact, but there is enough evidence to warrant some worry. So I'd rather compare those worried about the future of Elite, based on past and current trends, to those who believe in climate change rather than comparing them to flat-earthers.

Because they know the emoji is actually meaningful.

In all other circumstances where I've been when communication went quiet and the vision of the future wasn't clear, doom was indeed impending!

Thriving communities/families/companies, etc all have some idea of what will/might happen in the future, and there is lots of communication about it.

I can therefore predict our future, and say, "Prepare for doom".
