ObsidianAnt: Frontier - What The HECK Is Going On With Elite Dangerous?

Can't we please get back to discussing the content and not OA personally?

I happen to think that making this video is disingenuous as OA ought to know that being tight lipped is standard FDev communication protocol as far as ED is concerned.. On the other hand I also personally think that FDev are being disingenuous with their nearly "passive aggressive" silence.. It nearly makes me want to describe them with expletives.. :D

Still I don't see any signs of doom. As others have commented if they really were sunsetting the game, then it would have been a lot easier to stay quiet about consoles and the tiling issue.

Edit: That didn't come out the way I intended.. I ask for us to please stop discussing OA personally and then I go onto calling his making of the video disingenuous... :) Sorry about that..!

It's all free publicity for him.

Personally I've had enough of watching youtubers.

Also there is nothing in the January financial statement which says Elite is doomed. If they had plans in mind in January to shut down Elite then they would have needed to disclose it.

If they have made the decision, it's been taken since then. But there is no evidence. There is evidence of continuing development, such as the update.

I totally agree with this, but this implies that Frontier is setting scuttling charges to purposefully sink their own ship. What if instead Frontier hit an iceberg (the Odyssey launch), and while they know they are taking on water, they have no idea just how bad it actually is. They may even be actively trying to save the ship, but that doesn't mean the ship isn't sinking.

I'm not saying it IS sinking, but it's mighty hard to deny that Frontier did indeed hit that proverbial iceberg. The question is, just how bad is the damage? The console and terrain generation compartments have already flooded. Was sealing them off enough the save the rest of the ship? I guess only time will tell.

Yes time will tell, all we can do here is discuss it or in some cases argue about it. :D

Still IMO it is classical FDev (as it comes to this game), and personally I'm flabbergasted at their behaviour.

Amazing how OA has become so hated on these forums. Back in the days the whole forum was stroking his trumpet daily. 'Oh, I love your voice.', 'Great video OA.' 'You totally deserve having a station named after you, after all you've done for this game!'. Bla bla bla.
Says a whole lot more about these forums than about OA really.

OA, kamiks, down to earth astronomy have all been anchors for dealing with the problems FDEV has thrown at us . Only Trolls and people who want their instant "15 seconds of fame" are bad mouthing those who have given so much to the forum. Even Drew Wager left with a sour taste in his mouth and he was one of the earliest supporters of Elite dangerous but the trolls haven't found anything to complain about on his participation in the forum.

Its normal human behavior. if something goes wrong, humans are looking for someone to blame. OA was in the right place at the right moment for some people.

The only people who can settle this discussion are Frontier themselves.
Its obvious that a lot of doubt exists now within this games community that if left to fester will only cause people to deinvest from the product.
For example, i recently gave real thought to spending £50 on the largest ARX bundle Frontier provide, but to be honest even though i have enjoyed Odyssey i do have some serious doubts about the future of this game... so i chose not to spend.
If Frontier wish to promote confidence and encourage investment from their players then this thread and the broader conversations being shared beyond should strike them as a redflag.
Im happy to admit that Frontiers comm habits are generally bad and are this year currently contrasted quite starkly to the wonderful interactions of last year (post Odyssey crash landing). Yes this community has been given some new information and promises recently but its obviously not enough and the void is being filled with DOOM theory.

Some Comfort and disclosure from Frontier on this would be welcome.
I miss the road map we got in the early years, there was always something to look forward to and kept me enthused and excited for the future.
Back then i gave money to Frontier often via the front store and actively encourage people i knew to buy the game.

Now.... 🤷‍♂️

I'd rather be enthused than infused. Sounds worse than being drunk!

You can't expect the doomsters to let evidence get in the way of a good rant. Why change the habit of a lifetime?
