Pre-emptive "Research Limpets are Bugged" Thread

My final balance for yesterday was 100/140.
I kept doing it in NHSS 4 (four Marauders) with tissues taken from the single surviving one.
I tried launching the limpet from different distances, within the range of the controller, but it did not seem to affect the rate.
I was using a Xeno multi limpet controller (4 limpets).
Additional info (not that I am convinced it had any effect, but here it is): I was using a Krait II and, whilst tanking the Scout, I was practicing FA Off, trying to keep the Scout closer than 1km most of the time, and possibly never beyond 2km (I mount 3 AX multi cannons).
 
So on my first run today I got 31/32 samples, my best ever. Thinking they might have fixed something I went straight back out there and got 24/32. So.....no.

Also: No pre-engineered heat sinks on the megaships. So I guess we will see....

And that's the big issue here... it's so damn inconsistent.

It makes me wonder if it's related to latency or something similar.

I found inconsistent results last night. It was still about 50% success, but sometimes nearly all limpets worked and sometimes almost none did. I agree it looks like a "communication with server" problem.

Just some prelims: Why's this here?
There's a good chance the next CG is going to be a Thargoid Tissue Sampling CG, and I'm just trying to get ahead of the game and get visibility of this bug in a vain attempt to head this one off early. If the next CG turns out not to be the tissue sampling one, or the CG goes ahead and finishes, this can probably be moved... but for now there's already several people stockpiling samples ahead of time.

The CG has been put on hold while the Dev Team investigate the issues highlighted.
 
Exactly as I predicted, tbh. FD would forget about this bug for five years, go ahead and make a CG reliant on the mechanic when they want to escalate the Thargoid plot, and have it fall over.

This is why fixing these "niche" activities matters so much and why I've banged on about it for five years.
Rubbish. they could have just dropped the Tiers 50%. Now we have a wait of months while they try to fix it . again.

Ah well, at least we have nice NHSS for combat ranking this week 🤷‍♂️

No, it's not rubbish.

As I've repeatedly said, basic mechanics must function. This is a basic mechanic, and it's frankly intolerable it's been left in this state for five years after FD identified the issue themselves.

Workarounds are no excuse for broken mechanics, and it's patently clear dropping it by 50% wouldn't have worked because it's not a consistent "50%" for all players based on reports.

I'm grateful for FD to look into this, but they've got nobody to blame but themselves here. I know you won't agree with this, but tbh I don't care. Bugs like this shouldn't exist, period.

Next you need to campaign to get them to stop all Thargoid storylines - as the current Galnet says they have attacked starports and they clearly haven't. Looks like that mechanic is broken too, so they should stop that while we wait for a months-away patch.

If this bug was found already 5 years ago, it should have been fixed or at least tried to be fixed then, no? More so, since it's not only cosmetics. Then, they also should have had the resources available. After all there was no Oddity fixing in sight. But I'm sure they had other excuses.

They just announced in the livestream that the Thargoid materials collected so far will NOT help for the upcoming CG next week so people should stop wasting time gathering them.

They may help in the future though.

So - not a sampling CG - which handily will allow them not to rush fixing the limpets

They might want to develop an internal mechanism/procedure that would do preemptive checks on stuff like this like a month ahead of time.
Just to ensure problems are detected in time rather then on the day they're wanting to let something go live.
