Newcomer / Intro The NPC attacks are absolutely stupid.

It’s a shame he didn’t stick around, but despite all the things he said he was impressed by within the game, his frustration appeared strong throughout many of the posts and threads he made.

With mining, once you’ve learned that hotspot and general ring mining will spawn one npc/wing (per new instance) that will scan you and move on (high wake or slowly move away) if you have nothing of value, everything else becomes a choice. Out of bubble mining; a choice not a necessity, weapons, again a choice not a necessity. To get any real sense of danger, or just interruption, you need to mine in a Res site of some sort - which is what I suspect the OP may have been doing without realising (maybe he confused a Res site for a hotspot?)

The problem is if you have to cut your session short for real life situations ie family / wife (let's be real here) or your game crashes (which can happen while mining), those NPCs will appear again at the start of your next session. If you mine outside the bubble you don't have that issue.
I just leave myself a reminder to run immediately if I think it is going to be a long interruption, then I know on restart to hit the throttle and boost right away giving me a good chance of being out of range before the NPCs finish arriving.

Fair enough, but that solution requires flying hundreds of light years to prepare yourself for things you can't know are coming.

My personal approach is to make my mining ship both fast and armed. Fast enough to scoot, and armed enough to shoot. But with some folks choosing to mine in slow ships, or without weapons, the don't-drop-twice method means no piracy (but interdictions possible)

Interdictions are pretty much always possible fast or well armed ships work for them as well, also depending on what ship you fly NPC interdictions are fairly easy to escape from.

Where are you mining? If you're mining in a resource extraction site, the pirates will keep coming.

Op never answered this crucial question. I suspect he was mining in a res site, instead of a hotspot, or just a random part of the ring. Shame

I'll try that.

I've been killed three times in two days now. I'm on the brink of just uninstalling it and moving on.
Chin up commander!
One of the biggest complaints about this game is there is no way to learn to play it without watching a couple youtube videos or getting help. Hard enough just to pilot your ship lol!
A great resource is official Elite Discord, all the chat channels, you can ask for help and most times of the day someone could answer your question in a couple minutes. This forum is good too, and the Elite sub reddit has a daily question thread pinned to the top that people respond to constantly.

My suspicion is that OP was in a Resource Extraction Site (High). Being new to the game, they probably (incorrectly) assumed that meant a "high" amount of resources. NPC's will continue to spawn there as opposed to an isolated spot in the ring where they only spawn in on the creation of the instance.

lol another one of those "I can't play this game and I refuse to learn #uninstall #cryforme" threads?
Come on.
It's 2022, by now every single content creator on YouTube and their dog has made a video about avoiding pirates during mining. Hell, even I'm showing that in my half-butted video about core mining(in sig below). Seriously, at least try.
