Yep, hit boxes are much too big. Sadly the last we heard they had no plans to reduce them.
You could test if removing the left pillar opens a little path for the Tapirs to squeeze through the 3ish meter wide gap
I have found a solution for this situation.
But a 3 metre wide opening for an 80 to 100 centimetre wide animal is simply too much.
Yes, the hitboxes are the biggest problem i have with the game, because they make building realistic and usable interiors impossible for many animals

Anything new on this front? Today I really had to laugh - my calif. sealions won't pass through a 4 m wide opening? I had to delete a second wall, so now there is a 8 m gap in their shelter. Seriously, Frontier?
Yeah...been begging them to fix this for what? Two years now? And then it got even worse instead of better in the meantime so I just gave up and resort to modding to fix it myself now.
These hotfixes are great but they always do them for a select couple of animals in the DLC's, leaving the issues with older animals as they are. It's kind of a bummer to know that they can fix some things but aren't.
Animals are clipping through walls/trees all the time anyway. I wound not mind smaller hitboxes. Especially above them.
