Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Interesting nugget from AstroPub on the recent leaks. His dev contacts (“most of them are Star Citizen backers") also say there is churn due to wages. But that everything’s cool etc. Benefits, training & promotion opportunities make up for lower wages.

Full segment

Which makes me wonder, do fans end up getting fan leaks, which see things in the best possible light? And Agent gets all the burnt out, sarcastic devs instead ;)

Benefits - As a faithful CIG employee you may be graced with the presence of Sandi should she ever visit the office. Chris may personally inspect your work and give critical feedback on it.

Training - there's no greater training that having to learn our bespoke modified version of CryEngine on the job! The challenge is baked right into the work!

Promotion Opportunities - You're fresh out of college? Don't even have a degree? Never worked in IT before? Can't even grow a beard? Congratulations, you're now a senior developer!

In that video the chap claims CIG employees get "two months holiday flat out"

There is no mention of how much holiday is given on the CIG vacancies for Manchester which is strange as surely anything like that would be worth mentioning if it was unusually high.

Most UK IT jobs give around 28 days paid holiday plus bank holidays (9 this year) but the number of working days in a month varies, so that may well equate to around 7-8 working weeks of 5 days. By US standards that might seem alot.

I wouldn't accept a low salary for a company that was offering a few extra days off here and there.

"The problem with Elite Dangerous Odyssey planet generation is features you can see from space just dissolve away when you land".

Oh really lol.

Yeah, no idea were those craters are once I land, darn it!

...and then once they know what they're actually doing, then jump ship for a better pad job. And getting paid to get trained to earn more money is always cool!

3.17 finally unfurls like a beautiful butterfly. Q1 could not have contained it…

Some choice 'Known Issues' from yesterday’s PTU: 3.17aa. (Yes they ran out of alphabet ;))

  • Ships can explode after players exit them
  • Undocking ships can result in desync issues causing ships to disappear, move to other locations, or become unusable
  • Damage to player health can become delayed and can trigger after the player has fully healed themselves
  • Combat AI can sometimes rubberband, teleport, jitter, or move unexpectedly
  • Emptying and reloading consecutive magazines will break reloading

Should be fun ;)

AFAIK the features disappearing claim was from one video from the release version by one of Dan's regular 'refugees', an issue never seen by anybody else I'm aware of 🤷‍♂️ edit - certainly not since the planets were patched.

He repeated the claim again on his stream btw.

It might be possible, I mean if you lose track of where you are flying when you head towards the planet, it might appear the feature fades away, but that's because it's so far away, you know, smaller=further away, because we have full sized planets;

While watching these videos, I thought about the question "which is the best space game ever". I think the answer is simple: there is no answer. All of them have their strengths and weaknesses and, as if the makers have made some hidden agreements, all of them seem to fill a certain niche that others lack. So none of them is perfect, but that wasn't the question, and so far no space game (and in this respect possibly no game at all) has ever been and most likely ever will be perfect.

At the risk of sounding a bit trite and clichéd, it comes down to personal preference and which of the games YOU like best. But I'm sure such banalities don't even need to be mentioned, right?
Of course not...but don't mention the disappearing craters

Aye, it's definitely been the main gripe with the idiotic inventory system as a whole since they introduced it...no 'sell all' or 'move all' button. As mentioned, introducing the option for a player to sell items from the inventory isn't what was asked for...

The main problem with the new physicalised personal inventory is the fact it includes all the miscellaneous crap that's present in the web page based hangar section of your account....all the T-shirts, pairs of shoes, keks, hats...really crap free armour sets and subscriber weapon skins that you've accumulated over several years...everything. It also doesn't group items by type so all this crap is spread over the entire local and personal inventory UI in game making it an inordinate pain just to sort through it item by item and transfer, dispose of, drop... or now sell... items that really serve no gameplay function by being in there in the first place.

Every patch since they introduced the physicalised inventory, my first task in game was to spawn a smallish ship...empty my local and personal inventory by dragging and dropping all that useless crap directly onto the deck and then hitting the ship's self destruct button. Inventory management 101 :)

Just ventured into 3.17 live...strangely impressed by whatever they've done to improve the framerates...formerly with 3.15/16, Area 18 in particular at the ship terminals I was hitting a maximum of 27-30fps...you can see the improvement below. 3.17 (so far) is way smoother than anything to date...we'll have to see how the server stability and bug count goes...it wasn't that great during PTU :)

Maybe those Gen12 pipelines do make difference and/or they employed someone who knows what they are doing ;)
