Rumoured, Reported, and Exobiology

Looking at the codex in any region of the Galaxy will show lots of different exobiological species and their various types and colours as being reported.

What I've been wondering is that, when Odyssey launched, were all of these listed as "Rumoured" until a player found them? (Implying that every single possible exobiological species and colour has been discovered in every region already)

Or were these entries missing from the codex entirely until discovered, at which point they were listed as "Reported"? (This would indicate that there are most likely a number of new species or colour variations in the galaxy that are not yet found - meaning explorers still have a chance to have their name immortalised in the Codex)

Does anyone know if the Rumoured tag was ever used? Or is it truly a case of "Codex says nothing until it gets Reported"?

Of course if you're the first to scan a bio on a specific planet, you'll get credited in the system map for that, but that's different to being the first to ever discover a species in the whole galaxy.

The rumoured tag has never been used, stuff only appears in the codex when it is discovered and scanned by a Cmdr.

Just an added note, everything scanned by the Cmdr using the scanner generates a codex "report" but not necessarily a codex "entry" in game, EDSM used to keep track of all these in their codex page here but it isn't being updated due to the changes in Odyssey for bio;

So there's a real possibility of discovering more Notable Stellar Phenomena or planetary Flora that has never been seen in-game before? That's encouraging to hear!

Probably doubtful in a place like the Inner Orion Spur, but some of the roads-less-travelled might hold great promise!

I assume you are talking about Confirmed vs Reported, where the game keeps track of your personal finds, but Reported only displays the first instance found by any CMDR ever.

It would make sense that the game continues to log all of your finds behind-the-scenes, even if it's a duplicate discovery for you.

No, EVERY scan using the composition scanner for bio/geo and NSP's produces a codex report, you can see them when you use a program like EDDiscovery, even multiple scans of the same bio/geo on the same body produces a seprate codex report. If you do a search in the EDSM codex you can find hundreds of locations in some regions for the same bio/geo/nsp, they just don't go into the in game codex, just the first discovery for that region and your own first discovery for that region.

Objects like stars and planets however, that can't be scanned using the composition scanner, don't get multiple entries.

Yep okay, makes sense. Seems easier to just output a codex-ready report to the journal even if the game only ever actually displays the first one.

It's encouraging to know though that entirely new species or colours could potentially exist undiscovered. Though... Probably with datamining we would know all of the possible Exobiology flora models already. I wonder if there are any that haven't been seen in-game yet...

Some new stuff discovered in the last few months, NSP usually take longer to find.
