Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Not saying that is wrong, but if it is already released (as EA) why then the game press has not yet picked up on it and treated it like these?

It would lend legitimacy to leeching millions of consumers without delivering a proper product.

As always, its the best game ever, until someone tries to review/critique it, then the alpha card is played and its just a hit piece written by no-clue hacks with an agenda. Well, unless the review is full of glowing praise, then its outstanding journalism from a credible source.

Interesting. Not really formal early access reviews as the ones I mentioned though but rather some ad hoc opinion pieces. They indeed help inform but not quite there yet.

My guess most think it's not worth the effort to then have to manage the tidal wave of toxicity that would ensue a proper (p)review.
This. Every time a gaming media publication does anything approaching an objective review/impressions of Star Citizen, describing the good and bad from the position of playing an Early Access game, they get swamped and bombarded by toxic fanatics.

If the funding tracker is to believed, they report record funds each year despite dwindling stats we can actually see. Twitch, Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, Google all show a decline in interest over the years (crowdfunding interest dwindles as with any other project/product) there are barely any news items, gone are the days Chris Roberts would appear weekly to hype us all up. Yet we are supposed to believe the hype is bigger than ever because the "funding" they report they take themselves is apparantly higher than ever? Like we're supposed to believe the hype is post Kickstarter excitement days etc...

I wonder why more money is being poured into the project each year? It's not like they've used a substantial amount of funding to optimise a platform for selling expensive digital assets? The highest marked up digital MMO market out there in fact, ideal for money laundering and stuff - but no, nobody would do that apparantly.

Not to mention that the amount of content seems to be getting less and less each year. Of course, there are always the excuses of once (insert magic tech here) is done then the content floodgates will open, but we've heard that for years with the content getting less.

Define less and less, because the alpha get new content (which is added to the existing one) at each patch...

"the excuses of once (insert magic tech here)"
For sure, I can tell you one : when magic server meshing will be in, a whole magic system (Pyro) with a lot of new magic content (outposts) will magically appear and the funding will magically reach new heights.

Not sure this is what AA referred to but someone plotted the updates shrinking content trend up to 3.15, it may need an update for 3.16 and 17 I suppose. But with the new way to show the roadmap those fan posts have now changed to show even the minutiae so not sure it would be apples to apples.

Some of those stats do actually show an upward trend: YT monthly views / projected growth etc, Reddit subscribers etc. (I don't have access to the proper long-term data, but it's not all dwindling at any rate). But there's nothing there that really correlates with the absurd funding surge for sure. And the slumbering Google / Twitch stats etc definitely speak against there being a flood of fresh interest.

The funding is still a mystery...

(Most whale activity happens in the deep though. That's where my money is ;))

Talking about magic...

Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts:
The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't.
The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back.
That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige"."

They either make it up entirely and haven't collected what they claim or they have a functioning laundry service. Maybe both, but I think they very heavily just inflated numbers. There is no hundreds of devs, not half a billion dollars collected, nor an active user base in the millions. They do like any MMO and gamedev and exaggerate the figures - up to the extreme. To keep running and actually develop stuff they have to rely time and time again on 3rd party professionals. CIG is just a front with lots of plaster and paint and some talkers fabulating about stuff.
