Shh, hush. Not so openly! The big goal is to return the flock back to the herd not antagonise them! And tax em heavy while doing so. Besides, sooner or later they will notice how heavily flawed are those pseudo republican/democratic ideals they seem to believe in. Especially when they gonna have to rely on Sirius for support, if you doubt that, go ask the Alliance, they will tell you exactly how freedom and democracy works and what it leads to.

I haven't killed a Thargoid yet on this account. Only time I will is if they start attacking Marlinist space.

I don't blame raccoons for coming round if the neighbours keep leaving out their rubbish, but I'll keep the blighters out of my house by any means possible.

Seems to me that if push came to shove then you might accept a majestic or two from the Empire. But of course you'd want a guarantor of your security, that they would subsequently leave when the threat abated. I'm sure someone like Winters or LYR would oblige...

It's OK thanks. Majestics are even worse against Thargoids than they are in a regular CZ.

Ok, so when you Marlinists gonna say it out loud? If thargoid hits the fan do you want Imperial Navy Auxilary support or you're better off without it? Also make Slave trade legal in your systems, it's really a good buck...

Oh if we're being literal then yes. Or at least they'd draw fire for a bit. But if there were a useful contribution available, then if assistance can be decoupled from any unacceptable beholdenness, then liberty and death might not need to be an either/or?

Perhaps, but offers of help do tend to come with preconditions, expectations of favours returned and suchlike...

The Marlinist republic is in a fragile spot just now and Imperial ships would be a powerful symbol that we're not as free as we'd like to think. To my mind they wouldn't be as welcome as - say - Alliance or Sirius. Sirius gave us these systems after all and the Alliance and Sirius are BFFs at the moment. Hell, I'd take the Pilot's Federation, Salvation - AEGIS even - before we took help from the Empire.
