Forum interest.

for the first time ever I clicked on a forum besides Elite. I saw some strange games that I’d never heard of. Chaos Gate and Lemons Gate among others.
I noticed the shocking number of posts on those forums. Lol.

Chaos gate: 40 whole threads.
Lemons gate: a stunning 28 threads
Jurassic World: 8.4 kiloThreads.
Planet Zoo: 10.7 kiloThreads.
Planet Coaster: 16.2 kiloThreads

Elite Dangerous: 180 kiloThreads and 4.3M messages!!
IMHO this game deserves better than being relegated to “other revenue”

Your reckoning is probably still valid despite my comment incoming however

you do have to take age into account as well... Elite is far older than those games.

if you could do a post count in say the last 6 months then that would be a fairer fight. (though like i said, your conclusion may still be on point).

ultimately it is the profits which really matter to FD however. only FD know those.

That's meaningless. This game has been running for 10 years and was previously very popular. Last week, there was only one new thread on the beginners forum in 7 days. Revenue depends mainly on how many people are buying the game. I'm going to take a wild guess that there aren't too many of them at the moment. Add to that there are costs to keep it running. Put the two together, and what you have is DOOM!

You just wanted to call it Lemons Gate, right? 😉 Still, even at 28 threads it can't be as bad as Odysseygate.

Really?

I think Odyssey might exceed 28 threads, just by a small margin! :ROFLMAO:

Granted, if they were condensed into 'Bleating / Not Bleating" it would be a different story!
The OP was saying the low thread count on Lemnis Gate vs the high thread count on ED was some indication of misplaced investment on Fdev's part. As you point out, that's not a good metric, because Odyssey's thread count comprises an abundance of complaints on the quality of the product, and yet surely cost FDev far more in terms of investment.

As Frontier only published LG (rather than developed it) I'd guess that Ratloop did most of the hurting financially - although I wonder if Frontier were able to recoup the cost of promoting it!

On a second reading of the post, I think I did 'read it wrong', as you suggest.

EDO, from information passed to us during development, is unlikely to have paid for itself, not with the state it launched in - and what appears to be almost 2 years of 'fixing' being planned. Who knows, if content is brought exclusively to EDO (on-foot Thargoids, anyone?) it may promote new sales, we just have to wait & see, I guess.

Probably kinda niche product and audience. the concept sounded interesting - even the name was somewhat intelligent. The WH thing doesn't look very promoted - I wondered if it's marketed more directly by the dev. I'd assume the publisher would support considerably but nowadays everything goes across so many different channels.

We should re-count the threads for the newer games in about 6 years time and see how it looks then ;)

But also keep in mind 'Elite' is the original big idea that Frontier was created for, so it figures in the erm 'figures'.

This game has a larger older/retired demographic that have nothing better to do all day than hang out on the forums and play games.

Lol but you know it's true.
Hey, it is certainly true for me! (well, the playing games bit, nowadays)

Although the forum is becoming less fun to stir to poop in for the last year! (getting way too serious)

Warhammer Chaos Gate has tons of channels and viewers playing it on Twitch currently, including CohhCarnage (one of Twitch's most popular streamers)
