Console Update

I spent upwards of $5000.00 to play this game in VR

And you do play it, don't you?
At least Horizons if not Odyssey too

Along comes ODY, not at launch they said. Still not one tap has been turned on VR. Be aware that FD will lie to you about many things.
It's not like they promised VR in Odyssey, although not at launch did leave a certain room for interpretation, it was cleared out later on they dont have plans to enable VR for anything else than the space part.

With the transfers it's a different thing.
They promised they look into it and they will evaluate the options
And they did that, confirming they will enable an almost full transfer (minus the carrier, unspent arx and the name in case of duplicate_name scenario)

Not at launch implys to me that they were going to do it. And yes I play but if they kill VR totally that will be the end of it. I will find another game.

If you are a console player and do not already have a gaming PC I would be very careful about spending the money for one if you don't want to. I spent upwards of $5000.00 to play this game in VR. Right now they are talking about account transfers I would not spend one thin dime on this till they actually turn the crank on it. Right now they are saying they will but you never know with FD anymore.
Indeed I'm somewhat interested in continuing playing the game on PC, but of course I'd just rather play the game on PS4 and if only Frontier could pull their fingers out and make "next gen" versions of the game, it'd be the best thing for everybody.

And while I went through a PC gaming 'phase" mostly between 2005 and 2012, it was only ever a secondary platform for me and I get less time to play games now on my system of choice, I reckon I'd barely think of or have time to play the game on PC now...

In particular where my existing PC is, downstairs in the kitchen, doesn't really beckon me to play most games on it, short of the likes of Age of Empires III when I'm much more comfortable playing my PS4 lying on or even in my bed, while my current PC almost certainly can't play Elite, while it certainly can't play Odyssey and I don't feel like (and can't really afford to) buying a new gaming PC just to play Elite, while I don't have room to put a PC in my bedroom, so I'd be in the kitchen again...

I might eventually buy a Steam Deck and wouldn't might trying the game on that, however Elite isn't currently listed as being supported by the Deck, even though I've seen videos of people playing high end games on them.

All in as said, I prefer to play on Playstation and might not even use a PC transfer - I just want full support back on consoles 🤔😀🤘 .

You might as well take the free horizons license and “copy” of your progress. You can still play on PS and put Elite on your PC. My friend just found out his 3 year old Asus Rog laptop would play Odyssey onto his 50 inch TV quite well. He just stuck another 8gb of Ram in it and it’s even better.
I play on all 3 formats and I’m looking forward to getting a copy of my main CMDR (Xbox) onto PC. I use my elite controller on my PC as I don’t want the faff of keyboard and mouse or hotas.

I'll certainly take the free copy, however whether I'll spend the money and time to make use of it is the bigger issue...

I had a pretty good PC "back in the day", which I paid €1400 for (including the screen and a printer), which I played most of the PC games I was interested on until about 2012 when it suffered a hardware failure and I'd to recover the system and it was never the same again...
(In particular I really enjoyed playing X3: Reunion, Terran Conflict and Albion Prelude on it.)

It was a point when money was a bit tight and I couldn't afford to replace it.

I struggled on with it until about 2017 when I bought my current PC, a Dell with integrated graphics for "only" €400, however while you might think that it wouldn't be able to play Snake, it's surprisingly playable and I can play X: Rebirth on it!

However as said, it's probably not good enough to play Elite or at least play it well 🤔😀🤘🩲 .

You can do a lot with an older Dell for not a lot of money.

Your integrated graphics wont, it's true, but with the addition of a contemporary graphics card like a GTX 1070 or above it probably will, provided you also have enough memory.

Retail prices on new cards are finally starting to come down to their (already astronomical) msrp. It will take a bit longer for the second hand market to realise those crazy prices things used to sell for are no more and adjust their prices to something more reasonable, but it will be a while before FD do the transfers by the sound of it too.

Then if you got something like an nvidia shield, or if your TV is a smart TV with the Steam link app, you can even in home stream to your couch if you wanted.

Again?

Fdev didn't lie to you about VR, they said no VR in EDO at all before launch, then changed that to allowing in ship as WE the VR players requested. They explained in a livestream a long time ago that there were to plans to add more VR.

That you convinced yourself they were going to do full fps VR despite them explaining they had no plans to, it's on you. Spamming the forum with your increasingly angry and inaccurate claims is an epic waste of time and more importantly potentially misleading to others, such as those you are now trying to convince that fdev are liars.

Here's a video of Austin Evans upgrading my actual PC :-

My old optiplex has a 1070ti and its not good at all on ground play. My sons dell has the 1650 which is borderline power hungry and about the most you can get in the box, its marginally better but still not smooth. The half height cards are only 4GB which is half the problem (unless there is anything new out recently that you can actually buy)

That i3 6100 (2 core / 4 thread) might struggle. I'd suggest six to 8 threads minimum, but I don't have anything more than a feeling to back that up.

It won't be terrible though, if you were able to get a second hand graphics card cheap, you'd at least have something playable to help decide if you like the game itself enough to want to invest more, although perhaps Geforce Now would be better still.

I have the original 1070 and I disagree.

It seems the streamers believe that FD will do through with account transfers. Since I trust the streamers more than I do FD anymore. I assume the transfers will go through.

I wouldn’t if I were you as they are getting their info from FDev.

Myself I trust information from the primary source more than secondary retellings.
Well the primary source has lied so many times I just can't trust them anymore.

... What? How does that make any sense? The only factual information the streamers have is from FDev, and they get it from the same channels the rest of us do. The only thing streamers have in addition to that is their (usually heavily biased) opinion.

The same streamers who stick the boot into Odyssey and Frontier at every turn calling it a bug ridden mess, but tout Star Citizen as some shining beacon on the hill? Those lads?

No that's not how it is. See, the streamers are like mystic shamens who are shaping reality with their wills. As soon as FDev say anything and they are able to repeat it, it bends the fabric of the universe to make it so.
