Discovery Scanner [Weekly Update] - 09/05/2022

And will we ever see Guardian Frame shift drive engineers? Or is this in 3311 (2025)?? (Cmdr Exigeous made a video back in 2018 saying our 'Ships' will warp up to 500lys for 500 million credits.) [5A Guardian Inverse FSD]

Greetings Commanders,

A new week begins in the world of Elite Dangerous, so grab a seat, and let's talk about everything happening right now within the game.

Console Account Transfers
As announced in our post last week, we're very happy to be able to tell you that console account transfers are making progress behind the scenes, with the dev team hard at work to make sure as much as possible is transferred over should you wish to copy your Commander from console to PC. Secondly, if you've purchased Elite Dangerous on consoles, we'll be giving you a free copy of Elite Dangerous on PC. This will all be done in a limited-time window and the exact details are still being confirmed, but we'll be giving you plenty of heads up so you can prepare if needed.

The team are also gathering the most frequently asked questions about console account transfers so that we can provide you with the answers all at once.

The Rest of 2022
Another thing we spoke about last week was the remainder of the year and what that looks like in terms of structure for Elite Dangerous updates. Our first upcoming update, Update 12, is due this month. The main focus of Update 12 is on optimisation and fixes as we continue to improve Odyssey based on your feedback and Issue Tracker reports. There'll also be a new mission variant added, which we'll share more on in the coming weeks!

Moving forward, Updates 13 & 14 are currently aiming for August and November respectively. As well as continued performance improvements, these updates will be focusing on exciting new narrative threads for you to engage with. I know that you're all itching to hear more about what this specifically means, but rest assured that this is more than solely the continuation of GalNet. The closer we get to those updates, the more we can reveal, but it's too early right now. I would very much recommend that you keep up to date with the current happenings in the Elite Dangerous universe, as the Azimuth Saga continues to evolve.

2023
I can't say much about 2023 right now, in fact, I can't say anything other than what you already know! The team are currently looking at a key feature overhaul for 2023, and although I cannot give you any hints as to what this is, I hope it will help allay some concerns that there is no more content coming to Elite Dangerous. There's a lot still to come, and the new major narrative phase will have a part to play in the future, too.

Frameshift Live
As you will have heard if you tuned into last week's show, Frameshift Live will now air once every two weeks on Thursday's at 4PM BST. We're looking to revamp the show based on your feedback, specifically, your ask for more insight from the development team. What this means is that there are around 16 shows left in the year, and for each of those shows, we're looking to give you something you can't get somewhere else, and I don't just mean Twitch Drops! We're currently finalising our plan for the rest of the year's shows, and once that's concrete, we'll begin sharing with you our upcoming schedules, so you know what to expect before you jump into a stream. These subjects will likely range from ship design, ideas behind core gameplay elements, concepts and more. With this in mind, is there anything in the game currently that you'd like to know more about from a development point of view?

This doesn't mean the community elements of the show will stop, though! The Elite Dangerous community continues to be one of the best things about the game, and we're keen to highlight the fantastic things you do both in and out of the in-game galaxy.

Community Event Calendar Spotlight: On The Rocks (Magic 8 Ball)
We have another Buckyball race this week! This time, it's the On The Rocks race. This one involves delivering Buckyball Beer Mats to five asteroid bases in and around the bubble in the fastest time possible. Check out more information right here.

First up this week, CMDR Rheeney has framed this majestic storyboard work from CMDR Dasjav, showcasing the 'Little SRV' that caused a big explosion...

As always, it's impossible to ignore the incredible artwork of BeetleJude, who once again astonishes with this piece, highlighting CMDR Exorcist's adventures.

Really hoping the engineering is being redone in 2023, that grind is a little much, after fully engineering a few ships for different rolls I was burnt out man. Other wise, keep up the good work FDev. Loving it!

IMHO, the feature that needs the most rework is engineering. New content is great and much appreciated but the deep engineering loops tend to discourage many users. Just unlocking an engineer can be a pain at times, not to mention gathering mats to apply the mods.

Don't mean to sound negative. This is a good post and it's appreciated. Looking forward to the new content next year.
I agree. The mat gathering is the issue here. Unlocking the engineers is a pain but it's a goal. The mat farming though.... A mind numbing grind and a never ending one at that.

Not to be a cynic... Oh ok, that's a lie, I am a cynic... But...

The phrase "feature overhaul" in itself doesn't say anything about new features. And an overhaul will often include the removal of things (e.g. if they are deemed no longer worth supporting). I'm just hoping that an overhaul doesn't mean the final death of VR.

But on a positive note, I am looking forward to the streams and the surprises. The nice ones, that is. :ROFLMAO:

It will be a Horizons (Elite Dangerous base game) copy only. The transfer won't take place now, we'll announce when the window will be open for it!
What about console players that already have pc account and don't want to loose it? My PS4 account is a lot more advanced but I have a lot of stuff in odyssey too. shell we get second pc account or our current pc account will be replaced? can we just transfer some ships and modules and material from the console?

This one even I can answer! :D

You get a new free Horizons account on the PC, with most everything transferred, and you even get to keep your console account with its existing progress and bling.

I brought the Odyssey Deluxe edition, m8. I have both Horizons and Odyssey already I believe. :) It's unfortunate that I paid for it 2 days before they announced the free version.
I think i can't refund it because I already downloaded it? I'm really a newb at PC's and PC gaming... lol. Thanks for answering though! :) (y)

I don't know why it needs to keep being repeated, but since Frontier has already given these details:

1: The console account transfer is going to be to a new PC Horizons account.
2: The console account transfer is not going to delete your console account.
3: The console account transfer is not going to merge with an existing PC account.
4: The console account transfer is not going to remove access to or over-write any existing PC accounts.
5: It's a new account. They are literally taking your console save and making a copy of it as a new PC account, with the stated exceptions of what they can't transfer (CMDR name, socials, Fleet Carriers, Arx)
6: No really, it's a new account.
7: Not a merge into your existing account.
8: Not deleting your existing accounts.
9: New account yes. Change existing account no.

Zac, in all the optimisation that has taken place, I believe a few extra bugs have arisen.

A couple I've come across repeatedly in the last few days are:

When you shoot a guard silently, very often you hear his colleague shout out a threat "You'll pay for that!" or whatever - the point being that he hasn't heard you, and he won't attack you, but it's as if at moment the guy dies, the program hasn't quite told his buddy that he doesn't know about it yet. It's not a huge deal but it does destroy the atmopshere of a stealth mission.

Also when you go to a settlement/wrecked ship to takel an item, sometimes (at a settlement) it shows up on the terminals and sometimes it doesn't. Very often it does not exist in the specified locker or seemingly anywhere else. You can always log on and off and to fix it, but these things, in my experience used to work flawlessly.

action speaks louder than words can't hear announcements of an announcement of coming soon can't talk about after so many years

I think you might be able to refund it if you haven't played.

Regarding your situation now that you have offered new details I can't answer. It's probably worth it to ask support directly.

My fleet carrier doesn't have a shipyard or outfitting. If I don't decommission it before my PS4 account is copied to PC where will all my [copied] stored ships and modules go?

Thanks for this reassuring info Zac!

For console account transfers - 3 of the most common questions are:

1) Will I be able to transfer into existing PC Odyssey account? (Replacing current progress with the console one)
2) Will I be able to transfer into an existing PC Horizons account? (Replacing as above)
3) Is the gifted Horizons copy on any specific platform (steam, epic) or is it not connected to any platform?

Any chance you can find out please?
Just quoting so they know these are MOST important. Thanks for posting early. Great questions to have answered for the community

Those are interesting thoughts. It would be nice if they come from FDev otherwise they are meaningless. This new account will be linked to my existing steam account or to new steam account? PS4 and PC accounts are already linked to the same email. there are many questions that are pure speculations at this point. Everything mentioned so far was aimed at console players with NO EXISTING pc account.

Quite sure that has been in there pretty much since release.

They did come from FDev. Everything I'm saying has been said by FDev. Publicly. They said it on the livestream they announced console transfers on. They said it here too.

These are not "interesting thoughts", they are the expectations FDev has set in their public announcements about the upcoming console transfers. They specifically said that the console transfer is to a new account and will not affect or merge with any existing PC accounts. They said that on the livestream.

There are a few unanswered questions (for the moment) that can have answers easily inferred if you listen to what has been confirmed. I.e., if it's a new account, and new accounts require a unique email address attached to them, you probably will need to have a different email registered to the transfer account than you have on an existing PC account. Because obvious. If you do not have a secondary email account, setting up a secondary that forwards to your primary is not difficult.

FDev is not the best at communication, but you will have more information to work with if you actually listen to what they say instead of assuming they're lying to you at all times.
