Update 12 moved to 7 June

They're delaying it because of the Queen's 70th* Jubilee! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

If you don't understand that then we know you hate our queen and you should be hauled off to the tower for a light be-heading!

Nothing new is happening. The update is delayed. 3 months of development and nothing grandiose did not bring us. Goodbye Frontier, I'm gone to Star Citizen
I have my issues with Elite Dangerous but either you have double standards or a very dry sense of humour.......... Going to Star Citizen because a delayed update for Elite is surely jumping from the Frying pan to not just a fire but to the centre of the sun? ;)

(and I dont just mean the 2014 launch date, but practically every single roadmap since well, since they did them)

PS I am a backer of that too and looking forward to it.... but sticking to time targets is NOT a strong suit, neither is good optimisation at the moment.

The performance is still very different depending on the planet and settlement. I also think that there are some caps and some bottlenecks - you see some places the GPU is at 100% usage - but in others its far lower. Often fps dont get better even if you lowe the GFX settings or the resolution or use AMD FSR or SS below 1. Ground CZ are one example, you can set everything to low, it doesn't get you better fps, only the GPU usage goes lower.
I dont expect do see great improvements on fps in the next updates, I would be surprised if something would give a dramatic boost. After 11 Updates I can imagine that the biggest problems are solved and at some point the maximum is done that is possible with this version of the engine. I guess its more finetuning now. But it would be very nice if I am wrong and we will see settlements, concourses and CZ running stable at 90fps.
They have stated that these next few updates are about performance and optimisation. That his needed anywhere where there are concentrations of NPCs. It's not needed anywhere else. So if we don't get it then why bother with the game anymore. It it's as you say, moderator person. And we should not expect to get it, then why bother with a broken game that you reckon will never be fixed because it can't be fixed based on limitations of the engine.

So optimization and performance updates incoming are for what exactly? Being able to press the interaction button while sitting at the bar perhaps?

This is how to speed run the death of a game.
Get people to pay to test it.
Fix nothing
Release it broken
Update day 1 fix nothing important
Add stupid extra features
Ignore the major issue of performance
Release 11 updates
Ignore the major issue of performance
Tell the community the next updates are about performance...
Convince the community not to actually expect better performance...

Sure, but you gotta admit being caught off guard by a nationwide holiday is... not spectacularly brilliant.

Well, it probably went this way: they aimed to release it this Tuesday - that would have left them 1 full week to sort out the potential critical bugs.

But if by Monday (that is yesterday) they came to the conclusion the U12 is not ready to launch today and it will take them 3-4 more days to release, then i'm actually glad they postponed the launch with 2 weeks instead of launching Friday or next Tuesday and then going to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee and shutting down the store for 4 full days.

Hello you are misinterpret what I wrote.
1. I am a player and state my opionion, I am not a employee of FD and do not moderate this thread
performance and optimisation is written on every Update we did get, and its clear that many many things where done to get better performance - but still there is room for improvement in the on-foot areas (space is good enough).
I dont have any inside knowledge - so I dont know how much the on-foot parts can get better.
But for the record - fps on HORIZONS was also significant lower on planets compered to space. And the Horizon engine was optimized again and again from 2014 until 2021 - thats 7 years. I remember a discusion with friends end 2020 because I did notice my older PC with a GTX1070 reaching 80-100fps within coriolis spacestations (HOR)- a place where my GTX1070 always struggled and had 60-80fps top. So up untill the end of the HOR era FD did optomize the engine. Of cause these gain could also be optmitzation that NVIDIA did in ther drivers... but I ddont think NVIDIA will care in 2020 about a game released in 2014.

You can expect what you want - I expect to see improvements but I dont think that a single update will change the fps on CZ from 35-45fps to 90fps.
And as we dont have any objective way test the performance in comparison to older versions ( a fixed repeatable ingame benschmark) improvements are hard to measure.

And I didnt state the game is broken and it cant be fixed. I stated that at some point the optimisation is reaching a point where most is done and the gain gets smaller and smaller. That the GPU is not utilized at 100% f.e example is a indicator that there is room for improvements, like in settlements (on fire) and foot CZ.
Maybe the next performance and optimisation are focusing exclusive on this area and finaly my GPU is running at 100% there too.

I swear I war hearing the interview because couldnt on the proper day, not looking for that kind of things...

Minute 58:28... SOMEONE FARTED???

Nah, Tom didnt even flinched.
If that happened, we'd ended up with a scene like this

I love some of the people on this forum. Just because they bought a game and DLC they think they have the right to dictate Frontier's corporate policy!

By all means use the forum to complain about bugs etc. ( I don't remember many complaints about the "Egg" bug that was exploited and made it possible to gain billions of credits and buy a Fleet Carrier after a few weeks of play) and suggestions on how to improve the game.
Remember, Frontier are not legally obligated to update their games. That they are trying to improve their games is to be applauded. I don't agree with all of FDV's decisions, but:-

As Robert Burns said in To a Mouse
β€œThe best laid schemes o' mice an' men / Gang aft a-gley.”
Often paraphrased as:
"The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry."

One of the best things about ED is that you cannot gain rank or progress by throwing real money at it, like some space sims. Everybody starts equal, the only real money that you spend is for cosmetics which give you no real advantage in gameplay.

I am not an FDEV apologist and do not have a high end rig. My rig is a 4-year old medium rig with a 4-year old GPU and with a few judicious tweaks of the graphics options I am getting reasonable fps and decent graphics in Odyssey.
