Post Your Support for Elite Odyssey to have VR Support.

I would obviously love VR in Odyssey, but truth be told, if they are willing to cast aside thirty or forty percent of their total playerbase from the consoles, presumably because tehy can't fix Odyssey, I'm guessing we've got absolutely no chance. However, a glass half full box head's interpretation might be inline with coppermine's suggestion, nixing consles will allow them to double down on PC and reconnect with VR.

Since patch 10.3 dropped. In fact no.... My love for elite in VR occurred the day I donned what was at that precise moment, an unwanted Christmas gift from the missus, a Rift S. And fired up elite for the 1st time ever having never played on pancake.
What happened next changed gaming for me forever. I s**t you not. That profound.
Jawdropping!
I AM in Space! I'm freakingwell there!@ in the cockpit.
Course now 2 years later I've a fancy chair a g2 a fancy rig and a x56 bolted to said chair...and experiencing elite oddity in all its post 10.3 glory. 😲
It looks like no other.
Low res flat colours yada yada I don't think so. I'm full on 4k with lighting and sliders on ultra etc...thx to geforce experience tweeks. To say I'm playing elite in some crap resolution so on is just a flat lie.
If you've never experienced it stay silent don't troll. Cos you don't know what your missing. And this subject needs to be almost top of the list for fdevs.
Rant over
Exactly right. Too many people not having the required hardware to run this satisfactorily in glorious VR (That's just PC gaming I'm afraid. The more money invested, the better the experience. Always has been.) The Quest 2 outsold the Xbox last Christmas.. Many more potential ED players who will ONLY want to play in Virtual Reality. They need to re-awaken, and put their title back on the top of VR experiences where it used to be.

Since oddity dropped and we all recall that debacle, the performance has got better and better.
Post patch 11 I've just kitted out the carrier with its new stuff. And I'm flying around no problems wotsoever.
Will say my huds gone all orange again edhm get on it ! Hehehehe.
Fab vr sequence in the bridge of the carrier jumping from cmdrs seat
...momentarily its in true vr....amazing!

have you tried recently ? I have admittedly a top of the range pc but when ED:O launched its performance was awful. I left the game for 6 months or so but went back recently and performance has certainly significantly improved. I don't play VR ultra but am not far off it now. I was not close to this before.
Yeah, so I gave it a try again recently... and you know it is actually playable, I think with a bit of fiddling on my side and maybe a few more updates it will get good. There's still a few annoying problems, a lot of screen sheer at times for example, when dropping from hyperspace etc

But I've made the plunge and will stick with odyssey I think. I do hope they sort the on foot experience though.

Not a big problem, but I find the new hyperspace tunnel when it starts twisting at the end makes me feel a little disorientated. I never get vr sickness, but I imagine it could affect others

+1 for me. It's enough, playing this game in VR since the beginning, never buy Odyssey because of this problem. Stop playing after more than 600 hours. I feel betrayed by this company.

The game actually has VR support. I want the doomed pancake go away for sure too, being a 100% VR player, but in its recent iterations, Odyssey definitely is king and Horizons feels like a downgrade now. I can even use my old hardware (GTX1070, Rift CV1). Runs buttersmooth, but with better graphics 🚀

O7,
🙃

So now that Odyssey is playable in VR again, I'm starting to use it more. But I really want to do my on-foot stuff in VR too!
Fdev, I feel like you're so close! Can you release it as a Beta or something?

no VR (edit: I mean also on foot, ofc!) in Odyssey, no money from me. VR it and I'll put up 50€! Question: is at least walking through the ship possible in true VR?

No. All on foot content has a box surround and there's no headlook. The only thing that's 'true' VR when on foot is a carrier jump, presumably because it's a loading screen. :)

If the on foot content is your main reason for getting Odyssey then you'll likely be disappointed. All in ship and SRV content is in VR and is generally Ok. I get decent performance (I have a fairly high end machine), but a lot of stutters which seem to improve the longer I play (which is not a lot these days :) )

just to expand a little...... officially no, but you can walk around the bridge / cockpit of your ship in Odyssey in the same way that you can in horizons (limited to cable length or your playspace boundary)...... its not much but it IS still cool and gives a little taste of what could be if ever FD decide to revisit VR.

Also worth mentioning - just incase poster didnt know.......... you cant walk around your ship in flat mode either.. so in that sense VR actually has more features inside your ship than non vr.

edit.. unless @void68 meant the fleet carriers of course, in which case i totally got the wrong end of the stick

Its really cool, you can literally dock (via the docking computer assist) whilst getting up from the pilot seat and walking around the cockpit area looking out the windows

you know .... that never occured to me. I never use the DC (well used it once at launch just to hear the blue Danube). will defo do that next time I play.

:D really? I've finally grabbed an Index after years of examining it closely then passing due to skittish fear of the price...

oh also ya I'd love to see more true VR integration, and I hope that all VR struggles prove worth it for these devs who are and will remain diehard champions of it, and f the standards makers and industry bats who see the world in terms of burning tires made of some backwater currency, uh lol

** oh, and to the broader thread sorry bigbang: kickstarter + partner this, duh. If magical money appears I'm pretty sure the full loadout of VR would be a no brainer. I'm not sure of how many millions or billions of dollars that might cost though 😂

YES, PROPER SUPPORT NOW, At least make the grey border smaller or optional. Optimizations in Odyssey have really improved the VR plus using FREE CAMERA on foot in VR shows me that VR in Oddysey will work fine. It does in FREE CAMERA MODE. So come ON FRONTIER DEVS and MR BRABEN, FULL VR, FULL VR, FULL VR, FULL VR, FULL VR , FULL VR, FULL VR, you know it makes sense. Headless like the pilot. HEADLESS ON FOOT< HEADLESS ON FOOT< HEADLESS ON FOOT! ;) My PIMAX 5k and WANDS and BASE STNS all want this too! ;)
