Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

On one hand I totally agree the wasted cash which has been chucked down the loo WRT Star citizen is quite depressing. I also agree that it isn't a definite that the game will come out and it is highly unlikely all the goals of what have been teased will ever be realised.

However equally I think the absolute certainty shown by some here that it is a snake oil scam which will never come out and the intimation that people who post positive vids are deluded imo are almost equally distasteful.
let's not forget it is not only the usual SC whales who rave about Star citizen.
There are a number of decent and fair elite dangerous streamers who also play Star citizen and give it a fair shot and are inthink more objective than either the fanboys OR the haters.

I don't like their funding model for how the sell ships either.... but that said it is possible to get the game for no more than the price of any new release game if you choose and the developers are confident in their product that they allow people to try it out for Free on regular free play events.

Haven't been playing much at all today since I decided to spend the day in the Mole shed at the end of the garden ripping my PC to bits and fitting all of the gubbins into another larger case...with pretty lights. I even stripped the graphics card down and reassembled it with fresh thermite paste, fitted a bigger liquid cooler on the CPU with a 280mm rad and 4 x 140mm fans (2 pushers and 2 pullers) then sorted out another half dozen 140mm halo RGB chassis fans to fill the empty spaces in the case :)

Old case (Corsair 600-T) stripped out...

The other case I had in the shed...Corsair 780-T

Fitted a fan control unit I had lying about since I ended up with 6 chassis fans besides the 4 on the radiator...

Pretty lights... shame about the cables.

All back together and working, made half an effort to tidy the cables up :)

fresh thermite paste

Now I suggest stripping it down and putting "thermal" paste on it, thermite lol;

Wasnt Wing Commander very derivative to start with ?

Agruably almost everything is derivative, but that's far different than copying, I don't have a problem with derivative if it's done properly, Star Wars (the original 3) were highly derivative.

I think what you're missing is the reason most of us "haters" are critical of the game. Well, because while we do laugh a lot at the state of the game after > 500 million in funding and 10 years, the game itself is not the source of our ire, that's just amusement and bemusement. Its the management and marketing of the game that has led many of us to say we will never give CR any money, at least not until there is a released product (and i my case, i've decided never, not even if it turns out to be the best game ever made in the history of gaming).

So even if people like Kate and Drew are enjoying it, and even if I may enjoy it (which is no biggie, there are many games out there i can enjoy, i have a huge backlog of games i want to play, so i lose nothing by not playing SC), there is just too much wrong with management for me to condone giving them money. It would be worse than giving money to EA, because at least EA don't take backers money and then lie to them non-stop while developing the games.

Just one of the many examples of where Chris knowingly lied to backers. There is absoloutely no way he couldn't have known that wasn't true unless he is completely delusional... and if he is, then again, not someone you want to be giving your money to either.

We are now 7 years later than that quote, and CIG still haven't delivered everything backers originally pledged for, let alone "a lot more".

If you think its worth giving a company that has spent 10 years lying to backers your money, well, fair enough. I most certainly will not.

Look, I'm convinced there will be awesome games, many people will be in their good right to enjoy watching it during the FIFA World Cup, and I won't deny Qatar genuinely wants to make this WC the best WC ever... That doesn't make those raising concerns about ecological problems, human rights abuses and deaths "haters".

The key differences between this and our dear Fidelicious Mess are that no workers died in the making of SC (just backers, from old age or disease), and that World Cup will surely happen and no player will glitch into the field or die because of a lift.

Agruably almost everything is derivative, but that's far different than copying, I don't have a problem with derivative if it's done properly, Star Wars (the original 3) were highly derivative.

If you ever need an example of derivative done properly, play The Secret of Monkey Island. It's very easy to see what it's derived from. But then, Disney's own property was itself very derivative. These folks are standing on the backs of turtles, and the turtles go all the way down

Sure, Kate's vids are pretty fair. Don't miss her views on the downsides though ;)

Absolutely...... I am no SC worshipper and i I do not drink the SC coolaid, I just like some of what they are doing and wish dearly FD has some of the ambition shown in SC - not all of it. I dont need to drop a cup in a wood and come back to it in 6 months time for it still to be there, but equally it would be nice to have some "live" persistence that isnt just baked into the game or to have update thursdays where things magically happen on the server tick.

and the Armstrong moment that FD teased......... what a let down that was (imo - if others were impressed by the teleport from our seat to planet surface then more power to you), where as SC already does offer that (albeit on an excruciating limited scale at the moment)

I dont believe this makes me a shill or a sweet summer child however for looking forward to this in SC, and thinking it should be achievable.

on a wider picture, there are a lot of really seemingly horrible people in the gaming industry at the moment, mostly higher up..... and compared to them the CIG lot dont stand out imo. At least they dont appear to be sex pests (unless there is something i dont know about), - Ubisoft apparently still havent changed much

then there was the Randy Pitchford stuff (and i dont just mean the colonial marines lies) - magic trick my Asp!.

Should I boycott all of them? Absolutely but that would mean missing out on some of the best titles in the last few years (imo its all subjective of course) and also punishing the 100s of hardworking staff who have done nothing wrong except have to put up with the mismanagement just because of a few horrible bosses.

$5million, $500 million or $5 billion, it is nothign to do with me how much money CIG have really..... If whales gonna whale then that is on them. I am in the hole as it were for $60 (so around £45 in real money) and that really is my only concern. Just like it is not down to us how FD choose to spend their money on profits from ED. We can all hope it goes back into ED and is spent wisely, but it is nowt to do with us

"At least they are not sexual predators" is maybe a very low bar to get over aint it...
I could also mention that CRoberts never sold nuclear weapons to terrorists (to my knowledge). I dont think that absolves him really does it...

I don't know why you're saying all this to me to be honest Mike.

I just pointed out that NPC crew aren't coming any time soon, and that CIG's current NPC functionality is poor after 9 years of dev. And that it's best to judge stuff when it's in the game. (Advice which applies to all games).

Now you're talking about more stuff which is poor in the current game, but long-promised to arrive in a far superior form.

¯\(ツ)/¯

(I could engage with the whataboutery stuff, but I didn't advise you to boycott the game, so it's nothing to do with me. I would say that CIG's dubious behaviours do impact on the likelihood of the final game being delivered though, and so are more than just moral judgements in that sense. But sure, care, don't care ¯\(ツ)/¯ )

Sorry if i was not clear, whilst i quoted you it wasnt all directed at you specifically more my experiences in general. NPCs are vitally important to me, if SC launches with the same level of npcs as ED i will be incredibly disappointed..... SC is a long way from out yet so at the moment all we have to go on is what is on the plan.

This is a SC thread and thus we talk about SC, CIGs fraudulent behaviour and rear-pulling of excuses. Feel free to open EA, Rockstar or Pitchfork threads.
feel free to report my posts then but i think context is important. if you (not the literal you) are going to shake a stick at 1 company then it is only fair to judge others by that same yardstick....
oh and whilst on about double standards.............. i believe recently in this thread you have mentioned bioware, Dragon Age as well as DCS and there has been chat in this thread about the world cup and peoples pc builds etc as well as all sorts of stuff :D

lol yeah it is my point is if you are gonna judge CIG on a certain level then that should also be used against all of them (ubisoft, R*, EA, Gearbox etc etc etc

For sure. I'm not aware of any of those who took money from people before delivering a product though. If they failed to launch a game, people lost nothing (except some hype).

CIG is closer to the devs of Shroud of the Avatar or Chronicles of Elyria.
