Update 12 moved to 7 June

I also very much enjoy playing retro games still and I wonder if that's part of why I am less focused on these types of details if the overall feeling of the game is 'good enough'. I used to play Frontier on an unexpanded A1200, when I got the 030 accelerator it really made a difference, and much more so when I got my 040, however, I would imagine the FPS was still more around 30 something rather than 144 that I'm hitting in space these days in Elite.
Whether this is fair or unfair i am not gonna argue, but for me i have different tolerences for different era of games.

I still play shoot the bull, a game from the early 80s very regularly (great game when there are 4 of you playing for penalty shots of booze) same with shuuz, world class bowling etc etc. I have almost zero expectation of visuals from those games.

but modern games where i spend significant amounts of money I do have high expectations, esp when i have spent a hell of a lot of money on extra hardware specifically to get the most out of them.

(I bought 2 VR headsets and multiple graphics cards upgrades primarily for elite dangerous for instance as well as a high end racing wheel and pedals for Assetto Corsa and Dirt rally game... as such I do expect a certain level of visual fidelity as well as general feature quality......)

I do sometimes wonder how anyone ever played wing commander on an A500 however.... it ran appalingly on my unexpanded A1200. Frontier Elite 2 was not as bad but even that was barely playable imo....... (much better on the A1200)... mind you F1GP ran at 8fps iirc and i played that a lot and stunt car racer (one of my all time favourite games) was not much better.

OK, I'm assuming that you are from the US. If you don't have insurance, how much would calling an Ambulance cost you? (BTW, if you want to take this to a private messaging feel free?)
As someone currently living in the US, I can tell you that my last ambulance ride (my one and only, actually) was in 1999 when I broke my leg playing ice hockey, and it cost the princely sum of $5,700. That was 23 years ago, so can only imagine what it is now. (The ride lasted all of four minutes)

Thankfully my health insurance paid for it, but still...

And now back to the previously scheduled programme of "Misery comets moaning about anything they can"

It's obviously easier to post a new web page, than change an already posted web page - here was me thinking that electronic media could be changed multiple times, as things evolved.

It must get tedious.

I mean, constantly combing through everything this company does and says like ghouls. Clinging desperately to throwaway lines in Youtube videos from almost a decade ago as if its forensic evidence of why they're in a constant state of misery. Still trumpeting that support for your platform was dropped years ago, and being unable to get over it. A patch being slightly delayed by a few days, even though it happens regularly (to all games, not just this one), being cause for uproar.

Frontier might constantly step in it and I've got no love lost for them as a company myself either, but the holy mortifying state of some of you. Just... go outside once in a while. Take a walk. Talk to another human being without the use of a keyboard occasionally. Raise a drink to the oul' one that sits on a big gold chair with a funny hat.

Something.

Just... Jesus.

Personally I think that FDev deserves a lot of criticism for its communication, release quality, game play, bug fixing, etc. On the other hand they also deserve a lot of kudos for the epic game they've released and kept alive for 8 years now.

Still some of the critics really scrape the barrel and it does tend to become very tedious (at least IMO).

Yep. Bang on. There's absolutely nothing wrong with criticism of the game (and certainly of the company's management of it) but the way some of the regulars around here perch in the trees like vultures, looking for any scrap of carrion to pick over...

When I log into Elite, its with the intention of enjoying myself for a bit (warts and all). Some days I have less fun than others, at which point I log out and go do something else. I swear tho, feels like some of these log in with a pad and paper handy, rub their hands together in glee before saying "Right, let's hunt out some issues can I find so I can point score on an internet forum!"

Upset because Frontier release a patch that creates a game breaking issue? By all means fume, and rightly so. (See the oul' hostile ships no longer showing as hostile on the radar chestnut they stuck us with over the Christmas break)
Upset because Frontier delayed an update by a few days because staff will be off work during the Queen's jubilee thing, and they want people to be available to monitor it and push hotfixes in case there are issues? Get ooooover it.

I understand what you're saying, I wasn't saying that those standards are ok today, just that I'm not too concerned about an occasional and imperceptible ~5fps dip when it would otherwise being 144fps, or having an FPS continuously displayed on my screen.

Stop being a white knight /s

I haven't touched EDO since I learned that FDEV has decided not to add/finish on-foot VR. While VR may be in its infancy, a "niche", and even "crude" at times... VR IS the future. They ignore VR at their own peril. Time for someone else to capitalize on this mistake. Oh, what ED once was and could have been...
