Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

They are evidence but they are completly dismissed here. At least the funding explosion is something written on the wall. But even this is challenged here...
Evidence of what though? SC has always made money so it's not exactly anything new. They're having way more sales and a lot more public events than previous years so numbers are obviously going to go up.

Aren't we at 4 sales in 6 months now?

Soon...

This new fan site is fun:

Nice to see the sale event increases of recent years tabulated ;)

As much as sales within the classic events are also higher year on year, the jump in sale events from 2020 on certainly tallies with the striking leap in 'pledges'...

Alien Week traditionally runs from June 12th. (Traditionally as in: Since 2020 ;))

Can't really call CR eloquent and charismatic... except perhaps in the affable bumbling type of manner.

So, he's actually Boris Johnson in disguise?

Your response to every criticism lately has been "but the funding!" It's almost as if there's no evidence of meaningful progress being made on the game itself.

They are evidence but they are completly dismissed here. At least the funding explosion is something written on the wall. But even this is challenged here...

I think the key word here is "meaningful". I don't count bed sheet deformation as meaningful, I would count the introduction of second star system meaningful. What is "meaningful" for one person is likely to be trivial for another person unless there are agreed metrics. I personally don't see meaningful progression anywhere at the moment.

The funding is a number on a web page, but do you know the source? You assume it is an accurate figure and therefore a sign of the projects health improving, but is it?

Assuming you are right that the funding goes up, I also observe the claimed number of Dev's in the project is going up. If the number of dev's goes up the funding needs to go up to cover that.

I could also argue that the funding increase is proportional to the increase in the number of devs and draw an inference that the dev's are contributing to the funding. Complete speculation of course, but so is the validity of the funding number.

What we know for a fact is that CIG had to seek external funding around three years ago. We therefore know that their funding prior to that could not sustain the number of devs on the project at that point and therefore all funding up to that point had been used. I also find it concerning there is a note in the UK accounts indicating that they were not prepared to indicate their funding sources which to me asks obvious questions.

The only other thing we know is factual is what you are able to play now. Now, I know you really like what is there and I am really happy for you that you do, but does what you play reflect the funding that you believe CIG have received and we know has been consumed? Your answer will likely be no, but CIG are working on X,Y,Z,SQ42 etc and it will scale up speed of development. The problem is we have seen no evidence in 10 years of any of that scaling up other than in ship production. You may be right of course, but there is no factual evidence currently available to support it, just as there is no factual evidence to support the funding being a real figure.

Well dammit Stu, you need to start a site ;)

Do you mean stuff like this?

Could do with a way of comparing any frequency there against past years really. Wouldn't be surprised if deals and such are amped up, as with the big event sales.
I've edited my comment to include them all (because I was thinking to myself "wait, really 10? nah, gotta check that" haha)
10 ship sale events in 2022 so far:
  • Chinese New Year
  • Valentines Day
  • St Patrick's Day
  • Pride Month
  • Xenothreat
  • Nine Tails
  • Jumptown
  • Invictus
  • Hoverquad
  • Expanse
Up next? Alien Week...

just as there is no factual evidence to support the funding being a real figure.

Well, beyond that the company hasn't folded yet, because if they were not getting that level of funding (whether the source is ship sales or other) they would be out of business.

If estimates are broadly correct, CIG need around 8-10 million a month now to keep their head above water. Most months don't provide this much, but months with big ship sales exceed it.

Which also nicely explains why CIG keep doing ship sales, because if they don't, regular months are not enough to keep them funded. This should be worrying for CIG and backers considering the frequency of sales.

It should also be worrying that CIG need to keep the funding going for years yet.... yet somehow backers seem to celebrate this rather than worry about it.

I happened upon a video by Obsidian Ant the other day. He was playing some SC, and it looked pretty good and didn't seem too buggy. He was saying that, based on how things were going, he was hoping for SC in two to three years time, and expecting SQ404 in eighteen months to two years time.

He seemed pretty confident with all the usual caveats applied.

I smiled and mumbled to myself that he was being a bit optimistic and then noticed that the video was from 2020.
