Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Ooh gosh that's a flush of gleeful page growing in the last days thanks to Starfield.
I think the last time this thread saw such delight was over the launch of Odyssey trailer.

Interesting how similar some reactions, MVP goes to @Remus post with the Coffin Dance Medievel clip.
Mighty insight predicting the fate of console release.

As for SC field, blew up almost all the free rented fleet. Cutlass Medic, Phoenix, Scorpius, all gonne (rip).
Still holding on, Terraping, resilient little turtle.

Little to no Lum down there.

No traces of human life, mined some rocks, got lost, one hour finding the way back.

Worth it.

Got asked to land by a turret. Obliged.

From the Starfield thread:
So - no flying down to planets - Mole called it :)

If Starfield follows all other Bethesda products it will be an RPG first and not a ship flying sim. It's not going to be anything like ED. It'll be Skyrim where you'll do quests to get "spaceships" which will really just be fast travel options from one gameplay area to another. 😛

Pfft! Mole's demonic cows make him slow.

God I got lost watching some more of the stream. It is all just so... damn... scuffed...

They are hunting an NPC bounty. Two turrets stop working at a bad moment for no apparent reason. They get pummelled and flee for repairs.

Freeman is trying to get them somewhere but 'You wouldn't believe the jank'. They say they would.

One of them has mystery crime stat so can't dock to repair. (Remag flies off his feet checking mobiglass as he has to leave the emote stance which stops him falling over). Seems it might have been Freeman clipping a floating turret as he flew in.

Tommy gets injured taking over pilot seat.

Remag wants them to hover first to avoid a bug. 'It's all about avoiding the bugs'

Jonny is stuck in his seat apparently. One turret still knackered despite the repair.

Freeman hasn't managed to clear crimestat but has spawned a hoverbike and plans to drive out of ship near a station. Only it gets stuck in the floor.

He finally arrives in another vehicle. The turret is still bust.

Jonny is still stuck in his chair. They shoot him, he flies out but returns to chair, so he's now stuck in chair incapacitated. They heal him but now he seems to be immune to bullets? They decide to overdose him...

'It's like an escape room, but the world's worst one'. They're all just punching Johnny now.

They accidentally judo incapacitate Tommy. Jonny has a level 3 chest issue so now needs med bed. They accidentally kill Remag with a mix of takedown move and Jack kerbstomping him. Although he says he didn't see anything his end. Clips suggests he stands on his foot etc.

Sparks fly as they smack Remag's body around. It ends up in Johnny's lap. The body flies out of the ship as they wang it around. Tommy kills LvlCap with the same stamp.

Jonny tried to respawn and that starts the ship self destruct somehow? He tries it several times. (Is this the whole 'player becomes the ship' thing? Even though he's not the pilot?). He alt F4s at Tom's suggestion.

Tommy is struggling to dock to station. ['Why is this so complicated?' asks Jack]. Jonny is an expert, having failed to do it for 45 minutes (ship to ship docking?). But unfortunately he's dead.

'All I can hear is someone really weird choral singing. Is that normal?' [Docking sound seems to be bugged]

LevelCap tries to thread merlin through a gap in the hammerhead and blows them all up

Tommy is trapped in the hospital due to elevator. He's in Orison due to Invictus. His inventory is not working.

(They joke about too many streamers promoting SC and breaking it with players. Joke about being paid etc)

Finally getting around to doing the missions to get to Idris mission. Maybe... Tommy still has to get off Orison...

LevelCap was getting armoured up, got into lift, and all his armour fell off as boxes.

They finally get moving in their various ships. LevelCap gets the MFD issue where he tries to select the menu button and he slowly exits his ship mid quantum...

Tommy can't see LevelCap's icon on the star map so struggling to rescue him. Party wangling fixes it.

Lol. Tommy realises he's flying naked because of the inventory bug, so doesn't know if he'll survive opening the canopy to let LevelCap in. In the end he's fine, with no issues at all. Although he is apparently clipped through his seat.

Jonny still hasn't caught up with them. Now he's crashed to desktop. He's done. Can't do that journey for a 5th time.

I guess none of that will make its way into Jack's highly curated YouTube video.

Was it a whole hole or just a part whole?

Anyway that is impressive I do admit and proc-gen caves are something we probably won't see in ED for a long time, if ever. It would take scrapping the entire current planetary gen system and installing a new one, can't see that happening soon after the last change.

Yep! Trailers always show games off in a good light. The actual games will never be as good as the trailers

Eventually you have to release a game, and then you see it warts and all. You can't just keep pumping out trailers for a game year after year for decades

proc-gen caves

They're not proc gen, they're hand crafted ones. But yep they're injected into the world pretty successfully.

Within limits. They're seemingly capped at around 5 caves per planet. (They intended to add 100s of them, but when SOCS didn't bring the hoped gains it never really happened. Who knows why the caves themselves are intense on server memory. Possibly the volume of bespoke polys? Or could be the AI for missions?).

They are pretty evocative, but there are some complaints about their deployment. Mainly centring around clipping issues (getting stuck in geometry / falling through the world), the notably clunky climbing system making egress absurdly difficult sometimes, and stuff like the 'find one guy in a cave' missions glitching out and leaving you searching an empty cave for hours ;)

Haha i tried to post on the cultist subreddit:

"YoU DoNt UndErStanD PhySicS !!!"
Couldnt invent this.

People sometimes act like science is like religion were it's a stuck textbook scenario.
Yeah lets throw science out of the window ! It's completely overrated ! Haha. Wont even grace them with a detailed answer that would be completely lost to them (as of course I am an engineer and I understand physics and even aerodynamics.. but why bother)

I think I lost a few IQ points just reading the comments..

Interesting example of the design disruption caused by the rolling networking changes:

On UI visualisation of ship loading & cargo placement:

The ship loading visual, for example, was cut months ago, barely a week into the concept phase. The conversation boiled down to:

“We think this is very important and will take this UI from ok to good.”
“Agreed, how long will it take?”
“It will delay Persistent Streaming and every feature dependent on it by at least an additional couple of months.”
“No.”
“Yeah, we figured.”

Yeah, don't do that, it just makes you dumber.

At least that post explains the massive ship display in the middle of the screen that confused SaltEMike. I can kinda understand building the UI to allow for future features, but all that stuff seems so far away - talking about how cargo placement will affect ship handling when you currently have ships blowing away in the wind ...

Seeded? I've never played Daggerfall. I remember the ones in Morrowind.
Yeah seeded but good luck finding them exactly as the play area was properly huge. Also the procgen algorithm produced completely crazy dungeons that sometimes were inter connected (multiple exits..) or with impossible layouts (vertical drops that were impossible to climb back). Add to that the usual Bethesda bugs before internet and modder era... that was an "interesting" game to play ;)

Yeah, don't do that, it just makes you dumber.
Ah the cultists called it, somehow:
You really seem dumb to me.
Lol. I dont mind wasting a bit of karma, TBH. Makes an interesting experience to check how mind warped they are now, and wow, they are quite gone now, even further than back in 2015-2016 when dreams.txt were peak high. The complete lack of self-awareness is a prime indicator of cult brain washing...

But didnt you read cultist comments, physics are perfect, what are you talking about :)

Yeah I watched the video on the making of caves for SC, I know those are handcrafted, but ED would of necessity have to have proc-gen caves because there are to many systems and planets to have a small selection of caves hand crafted onto.
