Suggestion for new Odyssey/VR compatible min spec graphics card

Just nabbed a 3090 for £750, I couldn't say no.
Which is where retail should be or there about's, but its not its still 1.4k and coming down very slowly.

That's what I mean about them trying to hold a silly price prior to next gen in order to over charge for next gen. We'll see what happens over the next few months I'll gladly eat my words if they do decide to shift their Ampere stock.

I have a RTX 3070 (overclocked) and a Ryzen 3950x (also overclocked), 64 Gig ram, M.2 SSD and 220V (;)). I play VR using a Reverb G2. Haven't played for a while, but did so yesterday. The game is still performing very poorly.

My settings are a mix of medium to high. Most settings doesn't matter much, and you HAVE to exit at least to main menu every time you change something to be sure to see any effect. My CPU runs at roughly 15% usage, and my GPU at around 35%. I do run Win 11, but most of that has been fixed. In SteamVR settings I run 30% res (~2Kx2K) and in Odd I run 1:1, no supersampling or AA.

I get 80-90 fps in space, depending on how many objects are nearby. On planets I get 40-65 fps. The biggest issue however is all the stuttering and all the micro freezes.

My conclusion: I have all the hardware I need. There is some sort of bottleneck in the code of the game. Don't expect upgrading from a 1080ti to see the game running smoothly in VR. Sadly.

I don't think you'll be eating your words my friend, I'm just not as convinced as you that it's quite as cut and dried ( unless I'm misreading you in which case, my apologies ).

Don't be buying anything until AMD and Nvidia launch their next gen.

In will soon be here, then fill your boots
That's what I thought too....

Unfortunately, Tom's Hardware just reported that Apple, Nvidia, Qualcomm, MediaTek etc. are all trying to reduce their N5 orders with TSMC with the expectation of lower demands (but queuing up for N3). Nvidia in particular has pre-paid their allocation of wafers for their RTX4xxx. TSMC did not agree to reduction of such order, but agreed for a delay until Q1 2023. So, now Nvidia has the option of launching RTX4xxx next year to give the 3rd parties time to clear their RTX3xxx inventory made worse by crypto miners dumping their 2nd hand gfx cards. When RTX4xxx will come out now depends on AMD's, and to a minor degree, Intel's, offers.

There, you have the summary of, well... the wait for RTX4xxx might be a bit longer than expected.

here you go:

and that is one example why I think I'm seeing it right, keep in mind Nvidia makes stupid profit margins at the high end they are deliberately lowering the supply

You're six months behind :) TSMC orders have been declining since January because, the back of of this year, the major economies are going into recession. People should just now be feeling the first effects of interest rate changes. ( BTW, we're not done with raising interest rates ). All TSMC's major customers, Intel, AMD, Apple, Qualcom have forecast lower demand.

BTW, I'm no particular fan of the green camp, I like to watch the markets.
