Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

From refunds:

Hey there commandos! Are you a whale who has shovelled too much money to retain rationality into a 10 year alpha? Are you tired of people insulting your 500 million dollar unreleased buggy space sim? Maybe you just need to defend a group of compulsive liars to justify the sunk cost fallacy you dug yourself in?
Well! Never fear commando, because now you can use this handy list of rebuttals anytime people come to you attempting to save your disposable income from being flushed down a virtual toilet!
Timeline Criticisms
  • CIG had to build a company from scratch, including hiring, building studios around the globe, etc.
  • R&D doesn’t count.
  • All those games had engines already made. CIG is building their engine from scratch. It is called “Star Engine.”
  • Those other games actually started development and R&D way before those dates, don’t you know anything?
  • Star Citizen already has way more content than any of those games.
  • Star Citizen is doing something that literally no one has ever attempted before. Ground-breaking innovations take time.
  • Those games are bad because money-grubbing publishers forced them out the door before devs could make them into something good. Star Citizen doesn’t have publishers, and no deadlines, so this means Star Citizen will be better.
  • This new era of gamers are impatient little bitches. I don’t mind the wait, I have patience. I keep pledging so Chris Roberts will have as much time as he needs to recognize his vision.
Bugs, Lack of Content Criticisms
  • Star Citizen is more transparent than any other company, ever. You’re seeing how the sausage is made.
  • There is way more content than they are showing us because they don’t want to spoil it.
  • What are you talking about? I just spent hours playing the game it’s great/runs great/no bugs/perfectly smooth/amazing.
  • You obviously don’t understand game development. Bugs like this are totally normal for a game in this stage of development. Have you ever heard of Alpha??
  • Don’t be a part of early access if you can’t handle some bugs.
  • All of those things you just listed are on the schedule, they will be delivered in
  • They are doing a lot of the ground-work tech / pipelines that will pave the way for faster content creation later.
  • Oh, they already have the tech for , it’s not much effort to add.
Funding Model, Sales, Marketing Criticisms
  • Star Citizen is doing something different. They are bypassing the greedy publisher model only cares about profit and kills innovation.
  • Nobody is forcing you to pledge.
  • I backed the game because I believe in Chris Roberts’s vision, it’s the game I’ve always dreamed of playing.
  • All the ships that can be bought can be acquired in-game, therefore not pay-to-win.
  • The game does not have subscriptions. You can subscribe to help pay for weekly content which gives us insights into game development never before seen.
  • You’re not buying land! You’re buying the ability to claim land. Huge difference.
  • It’s not a scam. They have offices all over the world and the game is playable right now.
  • CIG is not in any kind of financial trouble, just look at the funding tracker.
General Rebuttals
  • Why are you even commenting if you hate the game so much? What kind of sad person just goes around tearing things down?
  • Oh look, another Derek Smart alt trying to spread lies and mis-information about Star Citizen because he’s jealous.
  • Known troll/goon. Downvote and move on.
  • How many AAA games have YOU released?
  • You are entitled to NOTHING.
  • Even if the game never comes out, I’m proud to be a part of it, at least Chris is trying
And there you have it commandos! Now you can demonstrate to your friends, family, and soon to be nonexistent wife that The Saviour Of PC Gaming truly delivers on every promise made and is in no way a slothful degenerate fraud!
See you in the verse!

I think many of us can claim to have heard most, if not all of those, at some time or another from the faithful.

I think if we scanned the post history of a certain member here we'd be able to see many of them in his posts.

Quality thread. Unfortunately Nightrider locked it (which tends to happen to critical threads on Spectrum)

Some responses are just…. 🤣

IT REALLY needs server meshing […] So I wouldn't expect it until significantly after SM is done.

I swear to god, sometimes I think that ultra fans use this kind of nonsense on purpose because the most ridiculous it is the more chances doubters may think that it is so ridiculous that it has to be actually true.

Either that or all ultra fans have marching orders to ensure any lack of progress is pinned on Jesus tech.

This thread topic and the discussion could have gone better, having observed the level of unhelpful pokes and snark leveraged toward staff, the project, and development, including the remarks on mod actions and points on moderation, that will do it for this one.

"Look you guys, stop saying anything jokingly-bad about the game or development or anything, please, or else we might have to shutdown the Spectrum forums you big meanies."

I don't think i've ever seen a forum less tollerant to criticism of the devs than Spectrum.

The level of delusion is off the scale...

What makes Star Citizen truly unique isn't in the game yet. The plan is to have a fully realised living breathing dynamic universe that will go on around you no matter what you do. Your everyday most personal interaction with this universe will be The Spectrum... when it arrives (and the AI population to make it 'real') it will be a gamechanger, like nothing anyone has ever seen before... you'll see it first in Squadron 42.

It will be multi-platform, you can keep up with events in the verse even when you aren't in the game. There may be people whose only interaction with Star Citizen is watching The Spectrum. Once the game universe goes live the clock only moves forward, it doesn't stop. The reports from around the verse may be live (local in system only there is no faster than light information travel) or recorded (Empire Report), players will be able to make news reports etc to The Spectrum - that is what the Reliant MAKO News Van was designed to do.

Players (and NPC's) will spend a large proportion of their time watching and interacting with The Spectrum. It will be your window into the verse at all times.

NPCs will watch "The Spectrum"?

I mean, either they are talking absoloute tripe or CIG are planning on wasting developer hours on something that makes absoloutely no sense at all and adds nothing to the game. Oh, wait, its CIG! They might be right!

It gets funnier. I posted the same discussion thread

Which was summarily closed with

We have already given this thread topic and subject a chance, and it didn't end up in a good place, so we aren't going to entertain a new thread discussion on this same topic. Thank you for your understanding.
Translation: don't ask about Theaters Of War, ever.

Yeah, the servers can only support 50 players, but if they weren't supporting several hundred NPC's as player characters then it would be lots more, funny that.

CPU load is pretty bonkers, btw - what the actual F does it calculate?. I know that the answer is "EVERYTHING" of course, but still
The thing is, I was getting exactly the same fps in exactly the same spot with my 8 core R7 3700x and 2070 super before I upgraded. Star citizen is just sucking up every hardware resource you could possibly throw at it and giving absolutely nothing back by way of performance gains. The CPU load on all those 12 cores and 24 threads of my R9 5900x, as you can see from the screenshot, is staggering considering I was standing still just looking at scenery.

To give an few examples, since the faithful just love comparing this slideshow of hacked together bits of game code to other successfully released games... I play Assetto Corsa Competizione at 1440p with full monty settings at 180fps, F1 2022 at 1440p on full monty settings at close to 100fps (both with RTX/DLSS on quality), DCS world and IL2 BoS at 1440p on ultra settings at well over 100fps...everything else, namely those games without RTX or DLSS that I play are close to or higher than the 75 to 100fps mark at 1440p with ultra graphics settings....even the GPU killer of RDR2 (which now has DLSS).

Yeah, I know..."But this is the BDSSE, bruh!"

It's hardly like my slightly better than average rig isn't capable...Star Citizen is just broken at it's core. Even on the sc telemetry page, my gpu/cpu combo is listed up the top right of the listings...although I couldn't find the R9 5900x/3070ti combo at a quick glance, just it's bigger (but slower) 16 core brother, the R9 5950x. It's hung up there like a cruel joke...with this type of gaming rig, you too could average a whole 54.5 fps in our broken space game 🤭

What would be the best place to use that mining rover? Assuming I can manage to load it in the Asp.
Most of the moons and planets have decent resources for the ROC, I tend to stick to Arial in Hurston or Wala/Lyria in ArcCorps since I'm based down that way...look for hadanite deposits with the ship scanner, they appear as little diamond icons. You'll have no problems fitting the ROC into the back of the Nomad...it's exactly what the Nomad was designed for :)

Living, breathing my rear. That slogan has been beaten to death, su ked dry mine a fly, regurgitated 100s of times and expelled from digestion and still nothing to show for gameplay other than unconnected islands of activity but we get this level of brain diarrhea instead.

Oh come on diarrhea suggests at least some input at one end, I think input stopped a long time ago in this case!
