Elite Dangerous: Odyssey | Metro Badlands

Greetings Commanders.

A very happy Friday to you all - here's hoping it's been a good week wherever you've been in The Galaxy.

Here today to give you a heads up on the release of a new gear set for Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Commanders. It's been a little while since the tailoring department has released a new line, so thought this worthy of a share.

Introducing: Metro Badlands

Sporting a mildly modern take on classic camo (I'd say, anyway. That's my view for fun, by the way, as I yarn through this post and not the official view of Frontier Store...), the 'Metro Badlands' pack hosts this new design in 3 colour-ways, sold together for 16520 ARX total.

Which is your favourite piece (only if you have one. Don't feel forced with fashion)?
For me, I like the 'Airtex' feel to the fabric there. Very breathable, I imagine...Anyway!

Thanks for stopping by on this one, Commanders!
These are available, live over on the DLC Store now.

Have a wonderful weekend ahead, on behalf of all of us over on this side of the Elite Dangerous Galaxy curtain.

Doesn't really appeal to me, to be honest. I liked these much better:

Which deserve a feature on their own!

Well for one those pockets can hold a fair number of a Kellogs Variety Packs- very useful for space breakfast.
In fact, I just came here to complain about those pockets!
What's their point if we can't use them?

I hope proper pockets with buttons that do a satisfying "click" when closed will be introduced in another game!

Sorry, but it's most likely velcro.

Looks like there're some assets reusing. Some part are shared with the Chinese New Year suits.
Indeed, this is the Lunar Tiger suit, retextured. Except for the helmet maybe, not sure about that.

I'm still hoping that the alternate design of the Artemis helmet (from the first Odyssey trailer) will hit the store one day. The model is in the game but only used on Imperial guards.

I want faction style suits (superpowers and power play). Especially Imperial white-and-stripes - kinda space knight.
I wonder how will the "Yuri Grom" suit look, maybe some fur and russian style tones. That'll be cool too.

Frontier is surprisingly unimaginative with their suit customizations. Technically the system is well designed because it allows mix & match, but as you pointed out, the available sets lack integration with factions and sometimes even with the lore.

For inspiration, Frontier might want to take a look at Bethesda RPGs such as Fallout 4. Not only has each faction (Raiders, Gunners, Brotherhood of Steel, Institute, Rust Devils etc.) very specific looks; all items worn by NPCs are also available to the player.

So instead of Motherlode, Plainsman, Metro etc., how about giving us Federation, Empire and Alliance sets, i.e. outfits actually related to the game we're playing? And put them on NPCs, too, so that when you enter a concourse, you immediately know whether you are in Fed, Imp or Alliance territory. Right now they all look alike. Imperial guards in settlements are a good start; why isn't there more of this?

Come on, FDev, this is low-hanging fruit!
