Newcomer / Intro Yet another newb question.

Is there a way to tell your limpets NOT to pick up stolen cargo that pirates drop?

Each time one does that a limpet sucks it up and hurls it into my cargo bay before I know what it is and when I eject it I get a fine.

There's no specific filter for stolen cargo that I'd be aware of. If you want to avoid the fine, either
  • select what you want to pick up indvidually and manually. Uses a lot more limpets, but they also travel faster in select pickup mode
  • check your hold before you jump out, and just dump everything right back where you found it. It's not a crime if nobody saw you.
  • keep it and sell it at a Black Market. Just don't get scanned before selling it.

Because collecting random cargo canisters isn’t something important to how I play I have been just adding anything that shows up in the scan with the word Canister in the description onto the ignore list so I no longer have an issue. The legal status is irrelevant.

Of course it might be an issue if I was to start tea-bagging* but as a couple of clicks would clear it not a major problem.

* Do NOT google.

It's not my plan either. What happens is while I'm out killing pirates, when one dies I launch a limpet to pick up all the materials. Then I'll go to attack another pirate. The limpet is still out there following me around.

As I am about to kill the next pirate, he dumps his cargo right before he blows up and the limpet grabs it and hurls it into the cargo hold before I can select it and put it on the ignore list.

I wasn't sure I could add cargo canisters to the ignore list, now I know. Thanks...

You can deactivate the cargo hatch in the right hand panel, the limpet will wait outside - gives you time to set the ignores then before anything comes inside your hold.

On the contacts screen you can add items to an ignore list and then your limpets will, well, ignore them. Also handy when mining if you don't want low value minerals making it into your cargo hold.

Hey if you want the limpet(s) to wait outside just close the cargo hold, ..close the hold should also notably improve your thruster performance during that second fight

When it is closed they will go "Limpet error, deploy the cargo hatch!". And yeah I too add any canisters on the ignore list

Miss second post earlier. In time your ignore list comes to have right things and this stops being a problem.

No idea, don't use them. I thought pirates use hatch breakers, rather than someone who is killing pirates using them on the pirates they're blowing up anyway...
I think someone told me once that they can prevent a pirate's hatch breaker limpet from working by powering off their cargo hatch...

Missions in which you're tasked with retrieving items being held by a pirate (or other) will require a hatch breaker. These include goods, hostages, diplomatic materials...
If you destroy a pirate ship, the items that you could collect are ones that survived the ship's destruction, not everything they were carrying.

I don't carry limpets on a combat ship, when I destroy a pirate, I use the cargo scoop to pick up mats. If you grab canisters, their going to want them back and come after you, I would have to leave after grabbing canister's.

Oh l save those cannisters...100s of em.. stolen. Well if they ain't I jettison em. Stolen ones are very handy in bulk hehe

I'm curious. Because they fetch a good price at black markets if you have enough to ship in one go? Or some other reason....
The only reason I’ve found for collecting canisters is role playing. One of my alts I keep ‘poor’ just to try and make the game a bit different and canisters can make me some money without forcing mega-credits on me like mining and Assassination missions would. My other accounts I’ve built up my ignore list so that only materials are collected. If I do a black box mission or similar, or I’m in a CNB, nothing that could cause me an issue is picked up. When a wing of four drops in on an illegal black box mission that’s really handy.
