I have a huge apology to make as I completely forgot to mention one run in particular. The entry came is not long after I had updated the leaderboard yesterday and so that's my excuse for forgetting to mention it. That entry was from Shaye, who managed to take of nearly 2 full minutes from his time and end up tantalisingly close to breaking the 23 minute barrier. Which I certainly didn't think was possible. There's some slight room for improvement, but if he doesn't get to better the run then the landing at Snow Moon is a thing of beauty that everyone needs to see.

Sorry for the delay and congratulations again. Can anyone make a challenge..?

That scream of ultimate suffering you just heard is me having enough time this morning to squeeze in an Unlimited shieldless run in the properly outfitted Slave of the Empire, and the game crashing on approach to Noriega Station. I'd misjudged how much damage I could safely take at Weber Legacy, so I didn't qualify for the "Crash Course" bonus, but despite messing up twice, I was still on track to improve my unadjusted time. :( Slightly.
Now tell me, and remember this is for posterity so, be honest. How do you feel?

That pained wheeze you might have heard two hours ago was me realizing, as I bicycled to work, that I could’ve requested a better landing pad to save just enough time to have completed the race. Twice. For added injury, the second time did just enough damage for me to do an emergency repair. If I had landed well, it would’ve done just enough damage to qualify for the Crash Course bonus at Weber.

Had time to make a run this evening. Two obscured jumps, two fines, and an "I don't know what the frell I was thinking" moment that lasted way longer than a moment at Moore Beacon later, and my overall time end up above my initial dry run. But because it was both a shieldless run, and qualifies for the "crash pilot" bonus at the end, it's an overall improvement. :)(y)

You can watch me confuse (or is that amuse?) the flight control officers at Moore Beacon for three minutes (🤦‍♀️) in a little over an hour below. The fine folks at Weber Landing, however, are used to my shenanigans by now. :D

Tonight did not go well. Several crashes, one fumble-fingered turn the FSD off instead of boosting, and finally a succession of orange sidewinders have put paid to tonight's ambitions. I do have a decent run (well, decent for me, anyway) from last night I can submit if there's no improvement tomorrow.

Thank you to @alterNERDtive for the LiveSplit stuff! This is the first race I've tried it, and I wish I'd been using it before. Very helpful seeing the numbers stack up, and apparently if I can string my best bits together I can cut 8 minutes off my current posted time o_O

We're into the final 3 days now and things are filling out nicely. There's been a few more entries in both classes so we'll start, as usual, with the Regulation class.

First we have a new racer on the course and that was Psykit. She had a very smooth run with some nice dockings, including at Moore which is the one that seems to be catching people out a bit. Although no bonuses were claimed her time was still good enough to see her ease into fourth place.
Next up was another new entrant in Stobi-wan. They had made a few attempts and were really struggling with the higher g landings, and whether it was premeditated or a decision made on the fly, they decided to head back to the start incurring a 4 Chicken penalty.

However they have taken Buckyballing to 11 because as they were coming in to dock at Koch base, they slammed nose first into the landing pad and.... CTD! They crashed so hard they broke the game 🤘 They then logged back into the game, had to make the approach to land at Koch again, and flew to Noriega and docked up just underneath the hour mark including penalties.

There were a few improvements and a few new entries in Unlimited too. First up was Psykit once again in her Federal Corvette - Epaphus No 🤔 Starting off in true Buckyball fashion, but pressing a couple of wrong buttons and then getting a reckless flying fine on the exit of Noriega at the start. But the run smoothed out nicely after that and with the shieldless bonus she comes in just behind Epaphus. Cmdr. Stevenson was up next and she managed to improve her time by getting the Crash Pilot bonus although still having issues at Moore beacon did make it slower than it could have been. Certainly made me grip the edges of my chair a couple of times!
Next up we had Alec, making a slight improvement to his time but not managing to close the gap on Bruski. Then we had a new entrant in Captain-MD, who's commentated submissions always make it interesting to see the thinking behind things. He said he had no interdictions which is always a plus, but the run itself was smooth and the approaches to bases were very interesting I thought. Dropping out of the sky onto King's Inheritance was great. Managing to take hull of progressively throughout the last few bases certainly helped the time and he moves into second, one minute behind Shaye.

But Shaye wasn't done, he went back to the course. And despite losing about 20 seconds at Korniyenko that was made back at Weber by landing bang on the pad with 10% hull meaning no time was lost trying to get to the bonus as the touchdown took off a couple more % Overall the run was just over 30 seconds quicker, further tightening his grip on first place.

OK - finally managed to get around to buckyballing. Mad week. Zoomed back from exploration now that the fatherhood lost souls 3 is close enough to make this possible, fought some thatgoids because that's what's going on in the bubble, flew supplies for the evil Salvation - becos you know paint jobs and stuff, then flew stuff for Anti Wych becos it's the right thing to do, and finally did my first BBRC in months because I was here. First and last submission for me I'm afraid as apparently I need to get out to somewhere else to make sure I finish the goddamn expedition. Need more hours in the day!

Whew - Anyone that says Elite is dull hasn't clearly signed up for too much stuff!

BTW - yes I know the landing on the high Gs were terrible, but my (new) motto is "Land hard, land fast"

Sounds like you're running out of things to do 😆 maybe get involved in the Hutton Truckers 2HOT2MESSY operation?

To paraphrase Chuck Yeager: "Any landing you can walk away from a landing is a good landing. If you can use the ship again, it's an outstanding landing. "
I highly recommend Yeager's biography if folks haven't already read it ... there's an RL character who seems to absolutely embody the Buckyball spirit (and it will explain why, if I had a fleet carrier, I'd call it The Happy Bottom Riding Club). Also very nicely portrayed in the fantastic film The Right Stuff of course.

We have entered the final weekend and we have some new entrants on the board and most of the movement was in the Regulation Class.

First up we have a new entry from the fantastically named, and very busy Sinister Hedgehog who was having a fight with the planetary landings. The first few were very smooth, although if they got another run then I think a few minutes could be knocked off just by increasing the speed when flying horizontally towards the landing pads. But as with so many people it was Moore that caused the most trouble, I can at least say I have now witnessed a Cobra Mk.III powersliding along the ground! Which was impressive. The overall time was another to add to the 43 minute club, although at the back of that group agonisingly by 1 second.
We also had an improvement from Cmdr. Sulu who is certainly making full use of the insurance bill being covered by smashing more ships than most of the other competitors combined :D Still he was determined to put in a good run in Regulation and one that landed at all of the bases, and a good run he certainly did put in closing the gap on Alec to a mere 41 seconds and cementing his place in second. But then Cmdr. Bruski stepped up to enter. This was his 10th attempt, 5 of which ended in destruction. And although the run was hampered by a couple of obscured jumps and an interdiction he still managed a time that was good enough to get on the podium...
But it is currently only good enough for Third place. It does mean Aken is pushed out of the podium spots and Bruski sits just over a minute behind second.

The only entry in the Unlimited Class was from New Model 15 in their trusty Imperial Eagle. As they said above the Imperial Eagles are basically made out of Balsa Wood, so they don't generally like meeting the ground. To that end the decision was made to keep the Shields on, judging by the time splits it was fairly consistent other than between Koch and Baffin which seemed to lose a few minutes. So coming in at 47 minutes I definitely think that there's a change to get the time under the 45 minute mark, which would bump up a couple of places on the leaderboard.
