Re-reading the rules I think this fact still isn't 100% clear (there was some confusion in the psykit stream today - expect bolshy submission from @psykit demanding her bonus after ploughing on with just 2% hull!).
Not sure how much clearer I could have made it ;) I'm up for trying to be persuaded, but by allowing you to turn on shields after dropping you hull, it takes away the danger of having low hull as the last dock is in Space.

Suggested wording change ...

"However - do this AND complete the race with less than 10% ..."

Regulation run submitted: 2 obscured jumps, although one was just barely and it was still faster to climb a little out of the gravity well than to jump out and replot.
I skipped Weber Legacy, though - after the complete mess I made at Moore Beacon, I figured I'd be faster, even if I survived. Pad allocation could not have been worse (a 180 turn in high g is a pain!). In hindsight I should have come to a halt and cancelled/re-requested docking permission, although that can take a while to work (tried it for a good take-off pad at Noriega yesterday and did not get a good one for several minutes!).
I think I'd have pancaked the Cobra a few times if I hadn't started with the Adder first - the experience is improving my landings (mostly).

This is THE most annoying message in the game right?

Anyway, a couple of those today and also some pretty tense moments dodging prates but finally got a new unlimited run in the bag.

Chicken pix??? Nobody told me there would be chicken pix! Right then, Reg Cobra run submitted, for maximum chuckie goodness.🐔🐔🐔🐔 And an iCourier run as well; the only landing technique I've found for this beast is to point it at the pad, close my eyes and hope for the best. Sort of works for launching out of the mail slot too...

Quick question- After banking a couple of runs in both classes (not yet submitted but in the ballpark) I was wondering how many attempts everyone had undertaken with at least one obscured jump, or rather how many attempts with no obscured jumps?
All of them so far have had at least one, usually 2 or 3. I really ought to try and work out some better routes, but I have enough on my plate just getting round the course right now.

Well let's start with the obvious one shall we. Cmdr. Arrowroot has decided to tempt fate and go for a full Chicken penalty, as mentioned above... They had a steady approach and encountered a few issues at Koch, but then bravely ran away back to Noriega at this point.

Now I'm sure you thought it would be a fun escapade, but you have miscalculated. You have angered the Chickens! They will have their revenge!

After penalties and time spent running away from Chickens, they finished just under the hour mark. Next up was Edelgard making an entry into the Regulation class, they had issues with obscured jumps, which was slightly offset by some tricky White Dwarf boosting, but there were issues docking at Moore and then the decision was made to Chicken out there and head back to Noriega.

The managed to finish with a total time of 43 minutes and change. Cmdr. Epaphus also submitted an improved run that saw him slot in only just behind Edelgard.

In the Unlimited class we had a few movers and shakers. Arrowroot decided to do a Chickenless Run in their Imperial Courier, and had a reasonably good run, except for the fact that someone just kept moving the mailslot around while they were trying to use it. Rude. Just shy of the 45 minute barrier slots them into Ninth. Cmdr. Epaphus was also back in the Unlimited class and finally felt comfortable enough with the Corvette around the course to go for a Shieldless run. This combined with a slightly improved time saw him take 4 minutes off of his time which moves him up a place. Alec was back once again in the Bananary Fandango and despite all of the issues he was having with Obscured Jumps and the dreaded 'Too Fast For Orbital Cruise' he managed a run that shaved off some time getting him closer to Bruski...

Last up we have an entry from Shaye, who decided that flying the brick Anaconda wasn't going to cut it and so he swapped out the Vulture. Some of the landings during the run were really smooth, including the Moore Beacon one which he said was much quicker than anything managed before. On a side note seeing a ship like the Vulture being used in a race really does make me happy, and with a speedy lap around the course Shaye is the first person to break the 25 minute barrier! Very well done sir.

sigh - here we go again, I'm seeing a pattern emerging!

And also ... a vulture? I must say I always feel slightly ashamed of my unwillingness to experiment with other ships. I love it when folks like Epaphus use the Corvette purely (mostly?) because ... well, because you can. But Shaye seems to be brilliant at picking ships outside the accepted norm which are actually better suited to a race than one might imagine (either that or he's just toying with us and could do it even faster in a DBX if he wanted to).

Anyway, congrat's to everyone on the board so far ... I now need to go away and think carefully about whether to keep pushing the DBX to its limits or try something new.

Yesterday, before I left work, I received some bad news: they needed me to start at 5am this morning. :(

The good news is that this gave a glorious two hours of guaranteed uninterrupted time to make some runs in Ship of Theseus. A rather competitive (for me) Regulation Run has been submitted. :D

You can watch me come to a belated realization after my last approach to King's Inheritance in about an hour below.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to inform Team Stevenson that they'll be doing some work on Slave of the Empire tonight. I've decided I want get it into proper shape to do some shieldless unlimited attempts. :)

We've passed the halfway mark in the race, we've had 35 submitted entries and I imagine a lot more explosions than that :D As we're over halfway, full times have been revealed so you can see how close some of you actually are.

The Regulation class saw the most activity over yesterday. First up a big shout out has to go to Cmdr. Homborger who after slapping on an A rated Power Distributor and checking out some tips took another go at the course. Despite being frustrated by some of the landings (the higher g planets are very unforgiving) they can still see areas to improve, but have already taken a very impressive 12 minutes off of their initial run! Which also moves them off the bottom of the leaderboard and proves that perseverance is better than a full Chicken Run. Next up was a new entry from Cmdr. Mack Winston who, after two crashes to start off the day, managed to put in a nice solid run on the third attempt. Going for the Shieldless bonus put them at just outside the 45 minutes mark, though finishing with only around 30% hull if they had of lost a bit more before docking at Weber could have moved up three places...
Cmdr. AkenB also threw his hat into the ring in the Regulation class with the ominously named Random Attempt. But that random attempt was a pretty good one and managed to slide straight into third place. Cmdr. Stevenson also took to the course again as you may have seen entering into the Regulation fray and putting herself in Fourth place at the head of the small group together on 43 minutes.

The Unlimited Class only saw two entries and interestingly they are locked in a battle. At the start of the day Edelgard was ahead of Aken by a small margin, they both improved on their times Edelgard by just under a minute and Aken by just over a minute. Ultimately they end up in the same positions, but slightly closer together.

That scream of ultimate suffering you just heard is me having enough time this morning to squeeze in an Unlimited shieldless run in the properly outfitted Slave of the Empire, and the game crashing on approach to Noriega Station. I'd misjudged how much damage I could safely take at Weber Legacy, so I didn't qualify for the "Crash Course" bonus, but despite messing up twice, I was still on track to improve my unadjusted time. :( Slightly.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Also - looking at the leaderboard with full times it strkes me that, as incredulous as Tom was that he needed to find 45 mins to catch me, I'm equally incredulous that I need 3.5 mins to catch Shaye. Conclusion ... race time incredulity scales exponentially (or is it logarithmically)
