Lurk mode off.....

Evening all,

So it has been over 5 years since I last posted - read a few things on / off and seemingly a lot has changed...although some things haven't....

I still love my VR - own a G2 and have just finished building a new pooter - i9-10850k running at 5ghz, and a 3090ti (both of which are water cooled (always wanted to do a custom hardline build). The corsair kit I bought was ace and really enjoyed the process. I race in IRacing mostly and may reinstall DCS...

So I have many fond memories of ED and VR - I first tried in a DK2, then CV1 and could not believe what Frontier had achieved - it was awesome. So I now have a hankering of trying it again.

I own Horizons, not interested at all in Odyssey, so want to know with my rig will it run ok without reprojection? I found that extremely off putting when I last tried it.....also, is there a set up help guide post of video which people use? I remember Dr Kaiis posts about the DK2 - very helpful....!

Thanks in advance and hope you are all keeping well!
Phil.

Yeah, running with OpenComposite and OpenXR Toolkit you can use foveated rendering and some upscaling to that effect, should easily be able to keep it going with reprojection disabled. Sadly, however, that won't fix the plethora of annoying bugs that plague Odyssey's VR mode.

I have a RTX 3070 (oc'ed) and a Reverb G2. I have struggled with settings since Odyssey launch to try and get a decent fps. Horizons runs butter smooth on my setup, with everything maxed out, so you'll be fine running Horizons. However, I recently figured out that I had misunderstood how ED and SteamVR worked together, and therefore I had been chasing out the wrong tangent. After I finally did it right, Odyssey is still quite demanding, but I get a pretty decent performance now.

If you haven't yet tried, the combo of OpenComposite and openxr toolkit is a game changer for fps, as silence indicated above.

Your system should knock EDH out of the park, I would imagine if you decided to that it would handle Odyssey very comfortably too.

And if you want to use a hud mod because you dont like orange then vrperfkit works in a very similar way, probably a lot easier to set up too ;)

Hey dude!

Congrats on your system. I am also EDH only atm.

I have a 3080Ti and it shines!

BUT

...it still struggles with certain scenarios e.g. corolis stations, planetaty bases and HazRes sites, if I want all the eye candy on. You do have a much better CPU but I still imagine it will be a similar story for you especially as you can't use the Oculus runtime which performs noticable better than the others.

If you see my sig, you can see how I have to setup the Quest 2 for acceptable performance (no ASW) for the majority of scenarios bar the above

Defo try this too. Why not, eh?
