Moving to pc from ps4

I will be taking the leap back to pc from console (I already have a pc version and recently got a new pc specifically for this).

I have a couple of questions about the move.

I would quite like to change my Cmdr name when I move back to pc will this be possible ?

Do we need to apply in September to transfer Cmdr (no later)? I am hoping to have finished unlocking engineering and guardian tech before transfer as its game content I am not overly keen to repeat.

For all who are moving to Pc from ps4 what are you intending to use the left over Cmdr on the console for ?

All the available information is in the below FAQ

If the answer isn't in there then we don't know yet unfortunately.

For myself, I'll probably send the console account exploring. I'd like to see some close binary stars and distant Guardian sites so once transfer is complete the console account will likely head out into the black.

I did this a couple of years ago. My PS4 CMDRs sit on my fleet carrier in cargo ships loaded with Tritium, allowing me to refuel the carrier even when my PC CMDR isn't on board.
That is a good idea. Am a long way from having a fleet carrier myself (still working through engineering).
Do you know if Vr is now completely ruled out for the ps4 now ?

No new Features will ever release on console version 100%..
PS VR support will never arrive as thats a New feature and they're not doiing any...
PS5 VR support on Last gen game version would be a New feature there not touching that...
Patches to keep compliance with the server farm when EDO updates them and breaks the PS4 codes is all the console gets...

September arrives thrusday but would expect EDH4.0 release before the clone of account to PC is offered...
Lots of people are waiting for the cloning...

For me, once I’m over on PC, I very much Doubt the CMDR earthtone99 will ever be used again, I sent him into full retirement back in March.

So I will be wiping my PC CMDR to clear space for earthtone99 to be applied and run as an existing CMDR slot.
I’ll lose 120 hours of effort I’ve done on PC, but gain the tools and wealth earthtone99 achieved, which is far greater & more valuable in my eyes.

Considering with each Braben Crisis, a hologram of the man appears on youtube to announce with a heavy heart that he has to limit the scope of Elite, I would doubt very much that VR is coming to the PS4. I'd put the odds about as low as me winning the National Lottery*

*Usually those odds are fourteen million to one, but they are much lower in my case because I never buy a ticket

Doing the same wiping my PC CMDR stormyuk and moving over my PS CMDR stormyuk to replace it. 👍

Elite will probably never be launched again on the console after this although I will leave the fleet carrier on that account should I ever need it. Doubt I'll buy one on the PC. The funds left on the PS5 will keep it in maintenance for years.

I actually stopped playing on the PC since the wipe and transfer option was declared as I didn't want to do anything in Odyssey which would be wiped.

They dropped VR development on the PC last year when Odyssey launched. So I doubt the PS4 or PS5 will ever see VR in Elite Dangerous.

I haven't really played ED since the announcement. Now I am waiting for confirmation of the date for account transfer. Will I play on my PS4 account again afterwards? Maybe. Still have a few friends that play on console so may well revisit it.

Something about console makes BGS work seem easier. It could just be the fleet carrier and the 38 ships, of course.

After all the complaining I've done, I am actually going to leave the console account where it is and continue with the fresh PC account. I have transferred around 8B credits though, so that I can have a carrier on PC as well.

You can do that even with the account transfer as it's a carbon copy of the PS account minus the fleet carrier.

The transfer leaves your PS account exactly as it is.

You can then use them both with all their resources and stuff. Win, win.

I have tried GeforceNow on old laptop with HDMI to TV and it seems to work fine on the Free plan - basic GTX GPU with 1 hour game session.
But I think will need the Priority Plan for ED (3080 Premium Plan only for 4K TV/Monitor apparently).

Then, when I do the copy to PC (seems to be working well for many CMDR's as of today), will use the console FC for exploring all around the galaxy and get a new FC on PC for CG/Storyline/etc, same as Old Duck and Felix above - win-win.

Ping time to there servers Has due to excess user load as expected greatly increased and may only get worse for a time as every body rushes to test the transfer..
its gone up from 39 ms to over 59ms due to the success of the Service... lol... the automatic server selection has been failing to select the lower ping time server so manual server selection and test is recommended for now..

why not have both PC cmdrs?

my PC and PS cmdrs are both at about the same level of progress so i don't want to lose either one... i'm expecting that i can launch one or the other from steam depending on which steam login i use.

from my read of the FAQ the window opens in Sept but there is no deadline for when you request the transfer... it is a one way, one time only move tho, so get ur ducks in a row.

then the PS acct is still playable from there but no more of it's progress will be reflected in the PC copy.

as for naming, imagine when you fill out the request it will explain if you can change the name or not, i don't see why not since they are severed from the PS from then on.

My PS CMDR had near 2000 hours, PC alt something over 100.

All I wanted was to continue on both systems, but as console is not moving forward, that meant me stopping on PS for good.

Bringing my 2000 hours of prior content from console into Odyssey on PC was what I wanted to achieve if it was possible, and this is what has brought me back to the game.

For some, I understand the will to run more CMDRs, this is not for me, I’m happy just running the one, my prior PC CMDR was an alternative if the console transfer hadn’t occurred.

For you guys that have transferred, what's the closest controller experience to using the PS4/5 controllers? I have both of those and am happy to buy a XBox controller if needed. Flight stick and keyboard/mouse are not an option.

I've always played consoles so PC gaming is a mystery to me. Bought a pre-built with an i7 / 16GB / RTX 3070Ti, so hope that will do the job.

Getting all the modules and ships off my carrier, trying to clear the inventory, trying to figure out what old engineered modules (that have subsequently been outclassed by tech broker gear) are worth keeping etc has been a bit of a pain. Module management could really do with some naming/sorting/filtering/comparison etc qol updates. Not looking forward to key binding!

Oh well. Carrier is in decommissioning phase. I've got 3 Cutters and 4 Corvettes (mining/trading/combat/1 * passenger rescue)... trying to work out if selling the hulls and storing the fully engineered modules to raise an extra billion or so to transfer over is worth the hassle of rebuying / fitting the ships on PC. They'll never get used again on console; if console CMDR does anything he's going deep into the black and never returning. Not sure it's worth the time for what feels like a chore. How have you lot played it and have you maxed cred balance before transferring? Hope to join you soon anyway.

Ooh last thing - I've got 50 ish Osmium on my FC that I want to keep. Anyone know if it will transfer if I stick it in a ship inventory during the transfer process?
