I think I know where Salvation is...?

Okay so I was watching the Salvation cinematic again (since it shows it every time you load the game) and something about it just didn't sit right with me. I'm going to mark the entire following post as a spoiler incase there are those who don't want to read it or whatever. Please feel free to tell me i'm delusional or if you think i'm on to something in the replies.

Anyway, here goes...

So the opening shot of the cinematic shows Bright Sentinel orbiting planet 10B in HIP 22460, and then cuts to this view of the front of the ship. This looked strange to me and I couldn't put my finger on why, until I opened the game and looked at the galaxy map.

Notice the blue nebula on the left, and the small black arrow shaped nebula on the right.
Now, at first glance you're probably thinking "CMDR Kailoren, that black nebula on the right is just the Taurus Dark Region which is visible from HIP 22460, what's the big deal?" but my point is that it isn't the Taurus Dark Region at all.
If you look at the galaxy map that blue nebula on the left is part of the skybox art, but the way the nebula is pictured in the video is reversed.

The nebula appears like this in the game, which is backwards. This struck me as odd. Since the nebula isn't actually able to be reached, its impossible that Salvation was on the other side of it. So perhaps Salvation was intentionally mirroring the broadcast in order to disguise his location? He obviously wouldn't put himself in harms way by being in the same system as the weapon when it was activated, right?
Which led me to doing some further investigation. The third shot of the cinematic shows "Salvation" from behind who again at first glance appears to be orbiting HIP 22460 10B, however (as many other eagle eyed CMDRs have noticed by now), his ship name on the right panel next to him is "Nemesis".

Further inspection shows that this ship appears to be a Drake Class Fleet Carrier, and not Bright Sentinel at all. So again, perhaps for the broadcast we are not looking at his canopy but a screen showing the guardian site below Bright Sentinel at HIP 22460 10B in order to further distract us from his true location.

Now this is where it gets interesting.

The blue nebula has a small black arrow shaped nebula to its right, pointing to wards the smaller curved arm of the nebula. Now if you look for nebulas that also match this, there are a few that come to mind. BUT if you take into account historical data from Thargoid incursions, and the placement of the nebulae in the screenshot from the Salvation broadcast cinematic, Salvation MUST be in a system of some significance.

Thargoid incursion data and a black shaped nebula points us to the Coalsack Nebula.

Which points towards the small arm of the blue nebula when the image is reversed.

If you line those up in the in-game map and then look for a system which has historical significance in the lore, you get....

Synuefe XR-H d11-102 - The system where the first guardian settlement was found.

There are two red coloured planets which also are a near match to HIP 22460 10B, and both of these are in the system (one of which orbits the planet the guardian site, or "Xenohenge", is located on)

So in summary, I believe that Salvation is hiding in the Synuefe XR-H d11-102 around the site of the first guardian ruins discovery, in a drake class carrier with the transponder disabled.

So, have you gone there?

I doubt there is any significance to the fact that Salvation was sitting on a fleet carrier bridge. The video was obviously filmed with in-game assets, and there simply isn't any other type of bridge available at the moment.
That did cross my mind, but with something this significant in the game's storyline they could have very easily knocked up a tiny blueprint of Bright Sentinel for the nav panel on his ship.

Not to dissuade you from investigating further, but it is my understanding that the "Nemesis" is a named fleet carrier owned by an FDEV employee that was used as a stand in for the video and that FDEV now purposely obfuscates skybox star fields to prevent matching and early disclosure of events.

Hmm, if that is true then it does throw this theory out of the window.
However, further to my theory I was talking with some friends the other day and I did think that the original intention of the Proteus Wave was not to disable the thargoids, but to wake the guardians up (or at least send a distress signal for them to come back), and now that FDev just tweeted this I think I might have been right...

The nebula is probably flipped because the opening shot is probably flipped. I think the easiest way to prove this would be going to the system and seeing what's visible there.
Salvation being in an FC named Nemesis is probably just a lack of attention to detail. As already said, it's the only command deck asset in the game, and using it would be easier than making a whole new one. It's very obviously meant to be the Bright Sentinel though: note how you can very obviously see planet 10 b and the Proteus Wave from it, and the secondary blast from the superweapon floods the deck with green light.
Oh and editing is a thing too. The way the video cut together very clearly implies that's the Bright Sentinel.

The sound that was tweeted earlier is the same one at the end of the video.

Hand them into the nearest Kumo Burger and you can claim a free Royale with Printed Bacon!
Awww man, I was hoping for recycled bacon a la...

Especially in 3308...

Humanity has moved on from eating such dodgy meat, thankfully.

I could see it being a lack of attention to detail just as much as hints towards some mystery. That said...you know that "it's very obviously meant to be the Bright Sentinel" doesn't prove a thing, right? IF (and that's a big if, though I do think it's likely...that guy didn't get that old by sitting near superweapons going off) Salvation really wasn't aboard the Bright Sentinel...wouldn't they (Azimuth) want viewers to think he's clearly on the Bright Sentinel? And the green light flooding the bridge, seeing 10b and the Proteus Wave...it's 3308, a company with as much tech as Azimuth surely could project a livestream onto the windows of a fleet carrier, or heck, alter a livestream?

Don't get me wrong, this is the first time FDev did a cutscene like that, and they may just have not been paying that much attention to detail. But so far, there is also nothing that truly rules out that Azimuth was trying to create the impression Salvation was right there aboard the Bright Sentinel.
