Discovery Scanner - 15/08/2022

I'm hazy after last week but I'm very very sure I responded to you with this still being very much up there in investigations. I won't let it slip o7 As I say in today's post, I just need a bit more time o7
Thanks for the info. I did not see any reply but then both the forum thread for U13, and things on your team must have been hectic. Easy for stuff to fall through cracks on either side. Note i added a few words to my post above re info that might help the devs narow down the issue (and just corrected typos) Namely "I can confirm that the issue still exists un U13. I'd go so far as to say that the bug is within the list of actions undertaken when a team is formed, with beacon pre-lit, and the parties already in the same system. Turning beacon off on after the issue rears its head fixes it, so "beacon on" code contains something the "add to team" code does not." - you you could let the devs know that, it might point the at the issue. The previous fix to hardwire the navlock braces would also need to be reverted.

I really do appreciate you keeping this on your radar.

On the 4.0 Horizons vs 4.0 Odyssey.

If the two sets of players cannot instance together, the only issue preventing 4.0 Horizons players fixing that situation will be ... buying the Odyssey dlc.

I mean it's the same version of the game, I'm not sure why people would be upset that they will be able to TRY 4.0 for free, and then decide if they want to upgrade to get all the Odyssey content.

Hi Factabulous,

What Sally has posted is correct. When the option to launch in 4.0 is made available to all PC players, instancing will be separate between 3.8 and 4.0 (as it has always been) AND separate between Horizons and Odyssey on 4.0. There's no final state to confirm in situations like this which are always open to re-evaluation. If the situation changes, we'll make an announcement to that effect.
So you're fracturing the already fractured community even more. A lot of Odyssey and Horizons CMDRs were very much looking forward to being able to instance together again for all content that both versions have access to, while 3.8 could slowly die out to eventually remain only for consoles. Well, not happening now. A lot fewer Horizons CMDRs will now even consider moving to 4.0, because there they'd be even more split off from everyone else. Some might bite the bullet and go for Odyssey, but a lot more I guess will simply stay on 3.8.

Briliantly put, Sally.

Too much "walking on eggshells" when a firm response is needed happens!
Honestly I'm not working this hard with the guys right now to be sleeping on comments where people think we don't want what's best for the game or them, or even think we don't know that they aren't entirely happy with certain things - we know. We want to fix it. We're trying very, very hard to fix it. It won't happen overnight.
We can only do things within the realms of actual development possibilities but we will find ways, we are constantly looking at ways and that's all I've got right now.

15 months after Odyssey's (premature) launch and the playerbase is not only still fractured, but will soon be fractured further across three versions.

Dear Bruce,

In the Odyssey release announcement last year instancing between Horizons and Odyssey in space was in the plan when Horizons on PC was ported to the 4.0 engine. See https://customersupport.frontier.co...348381714-Odyssey-and-Horizons-compatibility-

You are confirming now that the plan (obviously, with consoles, yes) has now changed and there will be no instancing in space between Horizons and Odyssey even if both are on the same engine.

Sounds like they are avoiding the performance hit of seeing NPCs and other players on foot and the new Settlements with interiors so that the new codebase and especially planet tech is not tarnished.

I would be curious to hear if a new Anti-Aliasing solution is being worked on or is still planned, that is another general negativity issue hanging around Codebase 4.0

I pride myself in not being cognitively impaired but this discovery scanner sentence is as clear as mud to me:

"When the option to launch in 4.0 is made available to all PC players, instancing will be separate between 3.8 and 4.0 (as it has always been) and separate between Horizons and Odyssey on 4.0."

What on earth is that supposed to mean? Fair enough running Horizons 3.8 can't instance with Odyssey but that reads like Horizons 4.0 won't be able to instance with Odyssey either. Is that the case?

If you read the thread you will see that is exactly what they have confirmed.

I was about to go looking for this, as it was this post that had set my expectations on 4.0! Thanks for finding it.
