Turns out the community has been wrong again when we've been talking about the "merge". It's more of a split actually.

A third version of codebase (and thus instancing) is a bad decision IMO, i know its not final, as stated, but it is hard to be optomistic given the past anouncements and subsequent actions of the games direction.

Genre competitors are all more MMO (larger instances) already, or heading in that direction (SC's last update for example) and to fracture the playerbase that likes that side even more will further entice players away in their direction.

My personal opinion only, I want to see all who want the MMO parts of the game be able to instance, at least in space.

I can understand making the 4.0 "improvements" available for people to try, to system test before purchase, and I can even understand (and agree with) Frontier needing people to buy the DLC, but to deny a whole aspect of the game without a clear and concrete reason is very dissapointing at best.

Hi all. I'm not sure we're looking for votes on this but I'll add my voice to having any 4.0 based flavor instance together.

That we're even considering this further community split must mean it's an insurmountable technical challenge to instance all 4.0. So if we can't instance together, EDH 4.0 will still be limited by not having leg/walk stuff, and it will consume valuable development and support resources, why bother? Doesn't having us buy Odyssey make more sense at that point?

3 different versions for PC now? If you are intentionally trying to destroy the community, you are doing a fantastic job.

Why is it that the player-base must be split up between two instances of the game? In so many games, like in World of Warcraft for instance, all players are in the same game but have in-game locks in place for expansions and such. There are literally 2 things separating Odyssey players from eachother; the disembark button and the atmosphere landing module!

People play 3.8 to play Horizons as is, presumably because they prefer the old graphics, lower hardware requirements etc.

People will get 4.0 Horizons, this will let them try Odyssey graphics etc without buying the dlc.

To play Odyssey and instance with others in Odyssey they will need to buy the dlc.

It seems reasonable to me, if only because I don't see why anyone would want to play horizons 4.0 with the new graphics and hardware requirements, without wanting the Odyssey content as well. Other than to try it out?

Because any new narrative elements will only be on 4.0 based editions. Stick to 3.8 and you can play the forums.
