EDtracker vs.... ?

Just got a tobii 5. my first head tracking thingie ever so i have nothing to compare it too.
It took a lot of fiddling with the settings to get it "right" but after that was done i really like it.

It would be really bad if $170 product did not satisfy you.

I payed $150 for it 3 years ago and it's worth every penny.

Sorry, my comment shouldn´t be read as an critic wanted to buy the TrackIR instantly but the visor on the website I saw irritated me so no option for me. Couldn´t read out from your sentence that no USB-Cable is needced for the visor.

No worries.

It doesn't come with a visor, it is a springy contraption that slips on to the visor of a baseball cap for instance or a tennis visor:

If you wear a headset then the TrackClipPro clips onto the left of the headband and that has a cable with a USB connector to power its IR LEDs - I don't like to wear a headset if I am not flying online in flight sims (like open in ED but with live ATC) so the clip is my preference.



As I say, it is just a matter of personal preference - although TrackIR is relatively expensive.

Looks like this is an old thread, but does anyone know where I can get a new EDTRACKER unit. They did sell them on a UK component site, but they only have the PCB now. Any other solutions? My faithful unit has finally died (lost one axis) after a good eight years in service.

Really don't bother.

Install AITrack, hook it up to a webcam, route it via OpenTrack* (I'm using 2022.3.0) and you're sorted. Both are freeware and in combination give you full 6DoF (x, y, z for yaw, pitch, roll) headtracking.

* It's best to spend some time Mapping the response 'curves' to sculpt it for your likes - here's one of my .ini files as a starter if helpful.

I used to wear an EdTracker for a while, but wouldn't consider going back, not with the above solution as it removes all of the gubbins and paraphernalia that accompany tracking systems needing to be worn.
