Newcomer / Intro Exploration: "Geological Likely/Highly Likely" Stay For Scan To Finish?

While "exploring" what happens if I don't wait for the "geo likely/highly likely refined scan" to complete?

I don't really care about geological sites. Should I?

Will I still get the most credit./money for the scan if I don't wait for finish? I'm not pinching pennies on this but I don't want to step over any quarters if all I've got to do is bend over and pick them up.

Should I stay because some sort of wonderful discovery may come from the "refined scan" and I'll miss it if I move on?

Why is it up to me to hawk the read outs? You'd think the whole console would light up if something rare was discovered--"Notify me visually and audibly if any of the following are found in a scan: terraformable, ammonia world, crash site, elw...etc."

Are you "scanning" old skool style by flying close to each planet? If you use the FSS, there is no wait - as you zoom in on the body, it will reveal the details to you; geo's, bio's, compostion...

Not everything will show up on a detailed scan, mind you. It won't show crash sites etc. as these will only be revealed once close to the planet.

Elite is quite famous for no hand-holding and you need to do a lot of work yourself. However, there are 3rd party tools that can overcome some of the stuff - try Elite Observatory for exploration and exobiology for example.

I recently began using Elite Observatory, like a week ago or less. I find it great for things I never even knew were there. I find it lacking with respect to Odyssey bio.

FSS is definitely the way to go.

.........

I think that Horizons still does the probability thing - Odyssey displays immediately on zoom, Horizons calculates probability as the time taken to fully resolve was taking too long (especially if you capped your frame rate).

P.S. @Iggy Aeronef - If it is still the same then Horizons requires to stay zoomed to complete the resolution/calculation. Makes no difference to scan value.

You can zip through the planets as fast as you wish using the FSS. Full credit for discoveries.

Odyssey is a nice improvement where you don't need to wait for the probability thing. It just says the info. Sometimes you must wait a bit for the planet name or type, but it doesn't mater. By the time you finish scanning and open the system map all the info is populated, unlike Horizons.
