Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Jeez...pay the Canadians a bit of due diligence at least...I for one are quite glad they're there doing what they do since Ci~G are all but AWOL dealing with the idiot's vanity project.

I am ¯\(ツ)/¯

I think their output has been fine to date, and have said as much. And would expect as much from battle-worn Ubi devs etc. (I even gave a bonus hat-tip to the pragmatism of their boss's presentation just now ;))

I just don't see the point in lauding them in advance of deliveries. (When all they'd done was hospitals, all we could judge them on was hospitals etc ;)). And I don't see the kind of full spectrum dominance of PU content from Turb that you're suggesting at the moment. (EU PU, US PU, EU Sandbox 1, EU Sandbox 2, EU Landing Zone, etc etc. The list of non-Turb teams dedicated to an extensive list of PU tech & content is notably chunky.)

I also think plenty of CIG's staff are perfectly competent devs, and have put out stuff comparable to Turb's output. Turb's arrival doesnt necessarily spin the dial massively in that sense. The issue with CIG often isn't the devs. It's what they've been asked to do...

And unfortunately, the man asking them to do foolish things is still very much with us. And still fundamentally involved with the PU. From the Server Meshing aims which Turb are helping to pursue, down to river physics too...

And bad news everyone. It seems another infamous blocker is still around…

Chris still very much at that PU helm :/

---

I've got another prediction for ya...as we roll into next year, an expanding Turbulent studio will assume more and more of the responsibility for PU focused stuff as Ci~G continue to fart around with the further delayed magnum opus ;)

Sure, could totally see it happening. (And would welcome an extended version where Chris gets firewalled into a SQ42 world alone, and we maybe get a Freelancer flip for the PU from a Turb-led crew ;))

It just definitely hasn't happened yet. And sometimes you write like it's already under way ¯\(ツ)/¯

Wishful thinking + SC would be a dangerous thing is all Moley ;)

And I've another one. Three to five years down the road Turbulent reveal their own space game. Space Denizen 404. A place with neither lifts nor ramps.

Let us hope there is some hyperbole at play here :/

You've spent 10 grand on this game and you state that you can't afford healthy food and are complaining that you can't afford Citizencon, because you're poor?

I've spent 20 grand and I am also dying. I'm also extremely poor.
I win. 🤘

The problem is CR could just walk in any time, say it's not good enough and throw it all out and have it redone by someone else, that seems to be a common practice.

If anyone wants some amusing background listening...

Full stream...
Watched some parts of this, at some point Mike says that some CIG high up devs worked in Ultima Online? Does anyone know which ones? He also mentions Chris Roberts was part of Ultima Online aswell. I am maybe wrong but not sure that is correct.

They're probably thinking of Tony Z mainly:

Naturally that all went swimmingly ;) EDIT: Not Tony's work seemingly

Very interesting, I didn't know it was such a disaster. Tony seems to be enjoying creating simulations for the sake of simulations. No gameplay-focused testing required. Or even any integration with a game for that matter :)

Indeed, aware of that. Tony Z worked in Ultima 7 and 8, not Ultima Online. Totally different beasts. Ultima games are RPG games not MMOs as UO was. And of course neither Chris nor Tony worked in UO which is the game Mike states as one of his motivations for SC, probably assuming wrongly that Chris or Tony had experience with MMOs.

Ah yep fair play, he was still at Origin in that period but seems to have been on the Crusader games primarily at that point.

Haven't watched the full vid yet, but here are some streamers on how much they're in for...

Source: https://youtu.be/itEhZsn8wXc&t=3m40s

Inforunners (too much)
AvengerOne ~1000
Tomato ~1000
Morph ~900
Eradicator ~2500
DigThat ~800
FTR ~31,000
Noobifier ~165

Interesting quote from Noobifier in that video

"The developers have actually accompolished 300% more than the Kickstarter"

Here is the Kickstarter, it's ten years old next month and nothing described on there matches anything delivered https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen

Love how Yamiks deals with the Noobifier answer to the question "what would you say it is missing for you to consider it done?" 🤣 You need to watch the whole segment, starts here:
