The Remorseful Bounty Hunter

Well,

After playing only with friends in closed servers and having a bit of a laugh, I decided today to hop online into the "Open World" - I know, Crazy right!?

My Cobra is loaded up with a varied layout which enables me to go anywhere and do nearly anything from Trading to Pirating. Right now though, I wanted to get payed for smoking some poor chap.

I was cruising around I Bootis and... Bam! - Wanted Viper; and it's a player.

I bring out my FSD Interdictor and get straight on him, it was a decent chase but I eventually win.

I start to Chat with the Guy - CMDR AIRHEAD

Wondered how he got such a measly 200Cr bounty, of course, once he explained that an NPC flew in front of him all becomes clear, I decide I will leave him to it.... Until a message pops up...

Message From CMDR Airhead : "Mind you... Wipe Soon..."

He spins around in my window and deploys hard points - he's already down on 48% Hull from his previous fight and so I hesitate to deploy my weapons but after one pass I decide I have no option.

I deploy my Class 2 Pulse lasers and Multicannons and let him have it. His shields are down in seconds and his Hull down to 10%. I apologise over the chat box hoping he'll back off and Jump away. He keeps coming for me. I line him up and with one solid final pass he blows up. 400Cr earned. Must of gotten more for attacking me first.

Then I feel something.

A game has actually made me remorseful... I feel sad that I have just killed a player. His ship is gone. Did he have cargo? Did he have bounties? Did he have enough money to pay off his insurance?

Call me weak but this game genuinely made me think about it, knowing what we Commanders go through to get to the position we are in.

Anyway, just thought I would share a cool experience for me with the hope it inspires more people to take part in something so immersive and real.

Thanks,

Baxter

I don't go after Wanted that have bounty less than 1500cr. Just repair and ammo reload in some instances will cost you more.

I know ol' boy!

Couldn't believe I had it in me to Bust a cap in that chaps ass but there you have it! ;D

Same here...

It's weird... But at least yours was self defense... Early in Beta 2, someone shot /AT/ me... So I unloaded...

Haven't killed a Player since...

We'll see when I go 'Imperial' in Live. :D

Great story, however this is biggest glaring issue w/ the game currently is being able to run the safe route in group/solo and then bring ship(s) into open, open should be sectioned off and only vessels/career started in open can play in open. Other than that great game just don't like the idea of getting wacked by someone who did safe route to accumulate mass wealth and didn't have to worry of risk of another player being skilled what have you possibly interfering with ones plans. Just seems a little cheap/cheatish imho but devs have made it so and isn't a game breaker per say but doesn't sit all that well with me and i'm sure others as well.

Pff, I feel a bit remorseful after tonight, put my pirate hat on and my patch (rrrrr), and decided to plunder some traders, out of the 15 traders, 1, 1 stopped and gave me the carg... tax. I asked for. Tis a tough economy you see, need to keep the coff... tax vault running. Well, needless to say the ones who ran I left with a repair bill, not to kill. My stamp if you will. Now don't get me wrong, I do not interdict and open fire, im not that type, I'm not in the habit of murdering my business clients. Before interdiction I send a message letting them know my intentions, any crap you can keep, valuable stuff, it is getting taxed. Unfortuantely one chap had the overzealous end of me, at 30% hull I was about to leave, when I did the unthinkable, instead of firing my primary (lasers) for one last scratch, I hit my secondary (cannons), by mistake. And just like that, a wreckage floating in space. Normally I would shrug this off, hell, I did warn him, and he valiantly attempted an escape. But for some reason it got to me. Maybe it is time I hung my pirate hat up, removed the leg, and rrrr'ed my way to bounty hunting :'(

Or I can grab my bottle of Jacks, drink it off, and RRR my way to merrily pirate after

I for one, love experiences like this. Makes the game feel more immersive when you bring emotions into games. You can call it weak, but I think that he was fully immersed into the game and was playing the game the right way when he felt this way. Those that play games simply to grind there way to the top and only see player interactions as a nuisance are not the players I like to play with. I don't want this game to end up like Dayz, where 85% of the players will kill you for no reason purely because they do not know any other way to play.

"Your weak."

So is your grammar, but I agree. No quarter asked for... or given.*

Look at it this way OP, The CMDR knew we're heading to a full wipe and engaged you first with that knowledge. Knowing all that it was probably more of a test of his skills in a losing situation. Think of the immersion of that situation. You'll be making a great deal more choices like that once the game goes live. I'm truly looking forward to things like this myself.

Cheers

Tbh I really don't think it's much of an issue at all, because in a galaxy of this size it's perfectly easy and normal to go about your business, make tons of cash and get plenty of combat practice without a single scrape with another player, even playing exclusively in open mode as I have since beta 1.

As far as I can tell the only good reason for playing solo is to avoid connectivity issues when playing in open mode, and if you do that it's nice to be able to switch back to open when the issues are fixed.

Oh yeah.

This isn't me not understanding how the game works or that I am "weak" or whatever.

This is me just referencing an experience and how it made me feel.

I can't wait to make more decisions like this!
