Re-use of redundant console carriers.

Hi folks, in a month or so i expect there will be a lot of "playable" but redundant console accounts hanging around with large sums of money after they've been copied over to PC. I'd like to propose that all these accounts buy-back their carriers and we coordinate moving them out into the black to enjoy a retirement of providing support waystations for distant worlds explorers and passing Odyssey Carriers. For example, my carrier with refuel, repair, restock, cartographics etc costs me $25m a week, but I've around $14b in the bank which will likely fund it for the remaining lifetime of ED. If we get enough people to sign up, we could put a grid of playstation carriers maybe every 2 or 3 kLY right across the galaxy. If we make sure we put them in systems with Tritium rings we could even get a local mining economy going, running Buy/sell orders to refuel passing carriers as well as explorers. What do folks think ? I know there was an attempt to do something like this several years back - but here we have an opportunity to re-purpose maybe a thousand console Carriers in one go.

I think most folks who plan on doing so will be decommissioning their carriers in advance to copy the credits over to PC.
I for one plan on keeping mine around so I have two carriers I can avail myself of the services of, since I plan to continue playing with both my console friends and my PC friends afterwards, and it's not like I am hurting for the billions of credits necessary to fund two of them for the foreseeable future.

aye, so after i sell my carrier and copy the credits over to PC; the PS account and credits will remain. So my suggestion is that I re-buy the carrier on PS and just move it out into the black as a waystation. it can sit there being passively useful while my game progresses on PC.

Already there. My Carrier - DSSA Eleanor is out in the black as part of the Deep Space Support Array Initiative running a network of carriers across the galaxy to act as repair hubs, Cartographic report points and general meet-up locations.
The writing has been on the wall for consoles for some time now. As soon as the carriers were released, a group of us headed out to various parts of the cosmos. Unfortunately, since setting up in position, I've felt no need to log into the game.

If anyone is thinking of retaining their carriers and willing to support this initiative, they have a active Discord channel that they use to support each other.

Excellent. I'd previously been advised that DSSA were no longer accepting donations, but have now reached out to them, thank you for the link. Whether they are or aren't, we can certainly look to place new carriers "in the gaps" between existing DSSA carriers. (Assuming I get any takers, hahaha)
