I decided to ask Spectrum for their wise thoughts. It's going well so far

Lol, this Citcon schedule...

Yay, Pyro! Again. Again. (Only minus the Jump Points this year, because who knows how/when it'll arrive...)

Plus an exciting new mission template. (10:1 it involves stealth. Like that exciting stealth mission. In that Citcon. That time.)

Plus... caves!

And a PU addition to Quantum Travel which vaguely references SQ42. So SQ42's in too...

My favourite though has gotta be...

The ageing city that they're having to rebuild completely because they can't fit any missions into the buildings as intended...

* chef's kiss *
I don’t see a key note speech there by Chris Roberts or Tony Z, Chambers or any of the top leads at all? I mean, maybe it is confirmed there will be a few of those and there is no need to put it in the program? Or am I missing something?

If Chris stays on trend, he's just going emerge from a cupboard at the end and say: "Physicalised".

Tony Z being missing is a curious one though. It's not like having nothing to show ever stopped him before ¯\(ツ)/¯

It was nice to hear that Bounty Hunter V2 is going well though...

Aug 2022

On top of this, the game design documentation and foundation work for Bounty Hunting v2 is nearing completion, which includes bounty drop-offs and the use of virtual NPCs.

May 2021:

Oh Tony...

We're now in early stage testing to allow Quantum to start pushing the first few bits of simulated data out the door and start impacting the game, and we expect to go live with these efforts later this year. The first stones in the virtual AI foundation were laid long ago, but it's only been within the past couple of months as engineering resources rolled off of some other major initiatives that the implementation efforts really started to take off. This technology will allow VNPCs the freedom to operate and evolve independently of player actions and open up all sorts of new gameplay possibilities. Bounty Hunter v2 will be the first feature to exploit virtual AI but it's really just the tip of the iceberg.

Tony, Tony, Tony

That iceberg sure is buried deep...

June 2022:

Bounty Hunter V2

End date has been extended from 2022-10-20 to 2023-03-01

Haha, J3PT in full on defense mode as usual.

They literally answered last year what is required for TOW to go out to a wider audience. Which has not changed. Simple answer, client-side framerate and to a lesser extent, desync. So not until after the new renderer and further improvements come.

"There is no when until we basically fix the performance and net-sync." - They explicitly stated that, and it is all timestamped in the comments. Everyone can see the work being done on this, and yet keep asking for an update on TOW when the answer has not changed. They want to release it with decent performance so it can have some longevity, simple.

Well, last year the 1-2 minutes long Roberts closing remarks were clearly stated in the program: https://starcitizen.tools/CitizenCon_2021

But unless I missed it there is not even a mention whatsoever of such a pitiful intervention in the program this year anyways, no? And not a mention of SQ42 of course.

We sure this guy is still running things for the PU?

There is no Tony Zzz because Que Pasa is already implemented and fully integrated into the game. In order to realize its potential fully, it still needs Object Container Meshing, though.

Also, holy manure, there is nothing about SQ404.

From Mike's morning stream, has a busy day ahead and didn't want to be too frustrated.

Had the common elevator bug:

So he tried Star Marine:

Stream ended a few minutes later, so he could relax :)

On SQ42 gossip:

Some fun unverifiable gossip ;)

scam citizen has internal employee turmoil on the UK office I hear as a couple of Scrum masters and product owners are leaving the company due to burnout with the most affected project being Squadron hence the hush hush of things.

Thought I'd have a swing through LinkedIn and see if anyone fitted the profile there.

A Mobile Production Landscape:

Lots of comings and goings in production land, but that's probably not super unusual. Some recent UK ones:

So some shufflings at scrum-tier and in associated 'products' perhaps. But hardly a smoking gun there. (Although I do wonder what % of people flag their departure from a company.)

General Dev Trends:

It was super noticeable that the vast majority of new dev hires are newbies, and new senior roles almost all promotions of ex newbies. Think I only saw 2 hires of experienced devs out of ~20. Does fit with the general stereotype of CIG ;)

There are senior devs walking out the door too, but no idea if at an unusual rate etc. (Say this Senior Physics Programmer and Principle AI programmer leaving in June etc). I guess the more intriguing question is whether they're being replaced with like-for-like experience.

Bonus Bits:

  • Fun bit of dev snark:

  • A fairly acrimonious departure for this Austin 'QA Lead / Publishing Supervisor' in May:
For those unaware, last week was my final week with Cloud Imperium Games. I took my leave after strong disagreement with a number of decisions made regarding the Austin department and the direction of the company as a whole. To those who remain, I wish the best of luck.

We sure this guy is still running things for the PU?

So they say. Here's Todd Papy back in March:

He still seems to be dictating PU stuff, setting more absurd scope-creep goals...

And bad news everyone. It seems another infamous blocker is still around…

Chris still very much at that PU helm :/

(John Crewe more recently suggests Chris is still, at minimum, badgering teams about PU-affecting tech etc.)

---

It's obvious he's either been deemed a PR liability, or has scuttled out of the limelight of his own accord. And possibly he's been put in a smaller box behind the scenes. But if so, he still seems to be pulling on strings which touch all aspects of the project...

I think speculations of him being firewalled off from the PU are still more wishful thinking than anything right now ;)

(Certainly, with a cavalcade of ChrisTM ideas still aimed at the PU, from 'physicalised cargo', to 'physicalised damage', up to 'Persistent Espresso Services' etc... If he has been killed off from SC, his ghost still seems to be very active...)

"So you see children, you do not even have to produce a real product. The mere illusion of work in progress is enough for investors and the general public to throw money at your feet."

"But what of the quanta Sir?"

"Quanta is all around us children. Just imagine it!"

And hence, no company ever more ever produced anything at all except highly produced Youtube videos talking about things that were never developed.
