Console Copy Portal Opens Tomorrow

NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Pro is a good alternative to buying a new TV. Only downside I have seen with mine is it has no flight stick support. The OS is identical to my Sony smart TV.

+1 - I've been running Elite Dangerous: Odyssey for about 8 months via Shield TV Pro. If you have a fast internet connection, and you stump up for the full fat "RTX 3080" membership, then you can expect to playing in 4K with 7.1 surround at 60fps with all graphics settings on their highest with no perceptible lag. That membership is £15/month (if you buy in a 6-month block) - far cheaper than building an equivalent PC that's only going become obsolete when the next graphics card is released ;-)

There are a few nagging issues that may particularly annoy console and/or living room players:

  • Every time you launch the game, it has to go through that planet generation routine, as you're effectively on a brand new PC/Graphics card each session
  • The ED Launcher prevents a smooth/seamless launch via Steam - you have to manually click* on a button to actually start the game
  • There's no pop-up keyboard* option for text entry (e.g. in Galaxy Map)
  • It doesn't seem to support any Flight HOTAS controllers at present
  • It's certainly not going to support the motion control and/or touchpad of the DualShock controllers.
* To solve mouse/keyboard issues, you can of course connect a mouse and keyboard... however I personally prefer to use the Geforce Now app's built-in keyboard/mouse overlay (hold Start button to activate).

I have an odd question. I'm a PS4 player with a linked account that doesn't have a copy of Horizons for PC. Can I still get that free PC copy despite not making a new account? The instructions specifically state you have to make a new account. I'd hate to unlink and make another account just for that.
Now this is an interesting question. I’m in the same boat. I guess we’ll see when it goes live.

I feel you. As a PS4 Commander, I really do: "Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending." —Maria Robinson. I truly believe that if we all stay positive, our collective good will energize Sally and the staff. We are almost there Commander.
I certainly hope so, this may be a free transfer but it has not been free for me and many others to be able to take the offer.
Personally I've had to purchase my 1st laptop since they started putting pentium inside (not kidding) to be able to carry on playing as I fear console will go the way of the MAC very shortly.
Console was the most cost effective and convenient solution to play ED since I last played on Commodore Amiga and previously BBC model B

Is the console transfer portal that new strange star shaped thing travelling between systems in Odyssey that folk have been going on about?
Maybe the delay is because they can’t get close enough to it to transmit the transfer data???
Oh, man, imagine if they did it as an in-game “wormhole” … you fly through it on Console and then go carry on playing on your PC!!

Greetings Commanders!

I know there is a separate thread on this as part of Discovery Scanner but I want to be a thorough as possible with what's to come regarding the Console Copy Portal opening tomorrow.
To reference mention of this, head on over to the news post here or see the discussion here.

As part of my Discovery Scanner post, I mentioned we would give you all a heads up on information around the launch of the portal itself ahead of time - my exact line being "We will follow up with the specifics, for example where to find the portal guide and how to access it ahead of time."

I just want to give you a heads up that the expected portal opening time is currently sat at "mid-morning BST" (so a window of around 10:00-11:00 our work time).
I'm afraid I've let you down a little in expectation in that this is all I have for you currently, until we jump in tomorrow morning to bring you the necessary links to the portal and help guide once available, however myself and Bruce will be on hand with you as we move.

We're excited to welcome our Console Commanders across to the Galaxy on PC side!

Don't forget, you can find the necessary info for all of the previous statements and FAQs in posts such as this one: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/console-profile-transfers-faq-and-expected-date.603979/

PLEASE don't forget the following (I can't stress this enough. It's keeping me awake):
  • Your original console profile will remain playable.
  • Only one profile may be copied per copy of Elite Dangerous.
  • This will be a one-time only process.
  • The portal will remain open for the foreseeable future and Commanders will be given plenty of advance warning prior to decisions on when the portal looks set to close.
Which elements of my console profile will NOT be copied to PC?
  • Your Commander name if it is already in use by another PC player. You will be given the chance to choose a new name as part of the process.
  • ARX Balance.
    • Please ensure that you purchase desired customisations before you complete the transfer.
    • Any unspent Arx will remain on your original console profile
  • Squadron membership.
  • Friends lists, Block lists and Private Groups.
  • Current mission progress.
  • Fleet Carriers and their contents.
    • Fleet Carriers will not be copied over. Please decommission these ahead of going through the process so that your resulting Credit balance will be included.
    • Any modules will be decommissioned at the discounted rate if previously aquired as discounted and then repurchased at the full rate on the PC account.
    • This also applies for any discounted purchase Fleet Carriers.
We'll see you tomorrow, Commanders.
Big day.

[IMPORTANT EDIT!]
Due to some minor remaining tweaks, the opening of the Console Copy Portal is pushed to release this afternoon. I'll be here to keep you all updated!

Any idea what time this afternoon?
