Summary
System: Popontia
Station: Ryman Market (Orbis starport, large pads available, 76 Ls from main star, 76.56Ly from Sol)
Objective: Hand in Combat Bonds after fighting for Workers of Popontia Free in Conflict Zones
Time limit: 6th October 3308 @ 06:00 UTC

Description
Conflict has erupted in Popontia as the Federation seeks to apprehend True Chapters cultists of the Far God cult.
The Workers of Popontia Free, which is sympathetic to the sect’s right to practise its religion, was outfitting the Dedicant megaship for the chapter’s use. Federal ships have been deployed in the Popontia system with the intention of detaining all cultists and seizing the megaship.
From the Testament megaship, the First Apostle of the True Chapters delivered a broadcast across public channels:
The Dedicant will be a new home for us to await the Far God’s arrival. We are prepared to die to defend this holy calling. Our recognised patrons in the Workers of Popontia Free will fight to protect us and reward those who aid our cause.
These unprecedented hostilities were commented on by Dr Alfred Ulyanov, an academic authority on the Order of the Far God:
This is the first time that members of this faith have not calmly accepted their own fate. According to my research, the First Apostle preaches that the Far God will transform her followers upon Its manifestation, allowing them to survive while the rest of humanity is extinguished. This has evidently motivated True Chapters adherents to abandon their wholly passive stance.
Both campaigns are being orchestrated by contacts in the system’s primary starport, Ryman Market.
The two factions have set out seven-day campaigns, which will end when the top tier is reached by either faction or early on Thursday 6th October 3308.
To be eligible for rewards you must sign up as an active participant before handing in Combat Bonds at Ryman Market in the Popontia system.
Please note that if you have any crew members, a proportion of your combat bonds will be automatically assigned to them. These combat bonds will not count towards your personal contribution total, and your crew will receive the reward for these combat bonds when they are handed in. The proportion of combat bonds assigned to your crew will depend on their rank.
Be aware that faction-state changes and other disruptive events can negatively impact markets and station services, and could prevent the initiative from running smoothly.
Notes:
  • Competing with Popontia Incorporated CG
  • Ryman Market is at planet 1
  • Station services: Commodities Market, Black Market, Shipyard, Outfitting, Repair, Restock, Refuel, Social Space

These CGs have overlapping CZs around planet 4 - one of the low CZs overlaps 2 other CZs and thus one kill counts for 3 (for bonds). This also applies to massacre mission counts iirc and could turn those into a slight gold rush for this CG as the per-kill bonuses for bigger kill count missions are bigger and of course each kill counts for more with the overlapping CZs. [I either misremembered or the CZs need to be within 100km for massacre mission kills to count multiple times}

I was also able to get a double overlap in one of the high CZs - I wonder if taking out a fed cap ship there counts for 1m bonds and if it gives a slight advantage to the Far God side.

Do I defend these poor people against the tyrannical oppression of Hudson's paranoia, or do I ruthlessly and bloodily crush them to progress towards buying a Corvette? Tough choice.
Likewise, I can’t decide whether my inherent desire fight fascism in all its forms outweighs my desire to stamp out cult behaviour and fight for logic and common sense.

I’ll probably just end up fighting for the underdogs as usual 😂

Sounds good until you realise that the very same "logic and common sense" is accusing a religion of spying for aliens and working with them.

Fun fact, the average political freedom defender is statistically 39% better at combat than the average fearmongering rights hater.

Unfortunately, the quantity of people who didn't read the original FGC storyline is also 87% higher than the number of political freedom defenders, so they are winning for now on sheer numbers. But it's not insurmountable! Go recruit more people!

And none of them have even met them (allegedly)
It seems likely that the Apostle is D-2 in which case, ONE of the Far God members has allegedly met the Thargoids before, and even perhaps somewhat become one. The others though, yeah they're probably just conspiracy nutters.

Still! Conspiracy nutters that aren't actually causing any direct harm to anyone. The Federation shouldn't be allowed to get away with this.

I'm not so sure - D-2 has been in contact with Tesreau separately, and seemed motivated more by stopping Azimuth specifically. They also appear to have been moving around and using their knowledge to leak data from Azimuth, at a time when the Apostle - and the rest of the Testament occupants - were choosing to avoid communications. It's not impossible but what little we've seen of the two doesn't feel like they're the same person to me.

There was also the hint in https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/04-JUL-3308 mentioning an Imperial accent highly unusual among FGC members.

My suspicion is that, if the Apostle is someone we've heard of before (and they need not be), that it's not D-2 but Theta Two. Theta Seven allowed people to believe that the few survivors of Theta Group all died with him on the Sacrosanct, but he was the only one actually confirmed to be aboard - what if some of the others took a different approach? Converting part of the Far God Cult from harmless fatalism to apocalyptic encouragement could be a way for one of them to try to take revenge on the superpowers ... and the Federation so far is playing right into the "oppress - radicalise" pattern that created the NMLA in the Empire too.

(Which would be a justification for Federal attacks if it was true, but if the Federation even suspected it was the case they'd have mentioned it)

I'm a newbie to bountyhunting CG's - Are people going to the CZ's do to this? I went to a low-CZ and I don't think it saw "Workers of Popontia" listed as who to fight for or against.

The text of the CG is quite confusing since I don't understand most of it and usually just look for the "who" and the "where". Bountyhunting ones always confuse me.

This is not a bounty hunting CG (where you have to hunt for wanted members from a certain faction)

This is a combat bonds CG, which means you need to find Conflict Zones that are pitting "Workers of Popontia Free" vs "Popontia Incorporated"

So, If you want to support the cultists, you go in Combat Zones and chose to side with "Workers of Popontia Free" and get bonds for them
if you want to support the Feds, you go in a such Combat zone and pick Popontia Incorporated, and get coombat bonds for them

This is typically the kind of CG that should give decals ...
I mean you can even create new ones, it's not like it is hard to make a decal, it's just a simple flat (monochromatic or eventually bichromatic) texture :/

There is a Galnet story that suggests you can get decals by scanning a NAV.

I fully agree - this weeks Lave radio mentioned this too.
The decals are already created in the form of the graffiti appearing in stations.

Anyway, it seems that is going according to the generic plan, which is always in effect when we have Feds vs anyone_else, which is: Feds are going to win undisputed.
