Recover mission not spawning target item

I'm just getting into Odyssey missions. Tried my first recover mission this evening....

Flew to crash site
Killed the mobs that spawned
Located a chest
Some items in it, but not the one I needed.

I spent 30 minutes searching all around the location. Opened intact cargo racks, popped the hatch on the ship for materials, scanned all the bodies, nothing.

I read that this might be a bug, and might be recovered by relogging, so I did that. The mobs respawned, so I killed them. This time two crates spawned. Looted the items, but still no mission item. I searched again for 10 minutes or so, looted the ship and the cargo racks, but no joy.

Is this a bug? Is there anything I could have done differently?

Thanks for the link to the issue. I've added to it.

It is possible that I missed the container, but missing it twice doesn't feel right, and I spent ages looking for it, running in increasing circles around the location. I'd be disappointed if they were that well hidden!

The small blue planet indicating the mission objective is rather easy to miss. So there is that.

But there is also the possibility of the mission item not spawning. In which case you need to relog - so move back to the ship's blue circle cover, relog - watch for scavs respawning - and try again (at most it took me 3 relogs to get the mission item)

It happens fairly frequently. Relogging is unfortunately the only known workaround.
That said it seems less frequent now than when I first did these missions.

AFAIK, if you relog at a settlement all the chests, lockers and data ports will be empty, but the quest item will be present. If you go into sc and come back, then it will be full of loot again, and hopefully the quest item too, but not always.

If at some POI then you can relog as long as you didn't get the quest item, it will have populated chests, data ports, etc.

If I'm not entirely mistaken, didn't these mission* items spawn alone in the container some time/patches ago? Thus, no** chance for it to not spawn...

*and the double/triple container larceny type mission
**well, we are talking about ED here, so probably still a chance

MDH

I recently had to relog at a site about 3-4 times before it finally spawned.
That's what FDev calls gameplay. Even though strongly disapprove of relogging... 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, I thought this issue was already fixed in older updates. It's sad that in October 2022 players still have to jump through all the hoops to complete a simple mission.
And devs also expect the players to spend their time chasing these bugs, recreating them, creating and filling in all the issues so they can be once again ignored.

End of mini rant.

EDIT: Wanted to give my vote to the issue but hey

Sadly once you hit this tedious bug it's all about keep relogging...
Also, the mission item has a clear blue planet symbol on it when hovering your mouse over it

https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/51984 hopefully some time before 2035 it'll be looked at 😒

P.S. the crash site has 2-3 containers I believe, and one is often "hiding" behind some rocks. Just fyi
Added my report...again (I've lost track of the number of times this issue has come up on the issue tracker).

As I said in the other thread, if players can find a workaround, FDev immediately shuffles the bug to the bottom of the "to be fixed" pile.

Popping this back on my list.

I'm absolutely aware we've made tackle attempts at this over the course of some updates now, so let's have another dig into it.
Leave it with me o7

Good to hear it's on the list.

I did 3 missions last night and had to relog at least once for all of them. Most of the relogs were probably because I couldn't get into a locked container. Googling seemed to indicate that the code isn't somewhere on the crash site, so I'd need an e-breach (?) for those, but I read they're illegal, so would be unlikely to carry any.

I always re-logged in my ship and the whole crash site respawned every time with new items and mobs to kill.

For the locked containers at crash sites, you do need e-breeches. You can buy them at stations and ports controlled by anarchy (or communist so I am told). When bought they stay in your ship or SRV until you move them into your backpack. For crash sites, transfer some to your backpack before alighting. At guarded settlements, do not get scanned with one.

Never leave home without them, you never know when you will need one.
