Autumn DLC Speculation

I do, very much actually.
This is a death before dishonor situation.
If we get just a few different premade exhibit type spaces with looped animations, i dont want them.
Thats just a slap in the face.
I can accept it for the short term woth the bat which is a cool surprise, but by the time the major flying update/dlc drops i wouldnt be satisfied in the slightest.
It would be the actual only dlc i would have no interest in buying, as anything trapped inside whats essentially a big as box to build around and cover up how ugly is with no or only little possibilities to change up the design like our current exhibits are, is worthless for the creative building side of the game, aka the one the game actually has good and satisfying gameplay in.
Sure building your first bat cave will be cool, but every single one after that will be frustrating because of how limiting the current system is and how little we can actually change and be it as simple as that you dont want an actual walkthrough cave
I respectfully disagree with you. Maybe birds as free flying habitat animals is too complicated to do or would slow down the game performance too much. I don't know, I'm not an expert, but it's possible. So, for me, a compromise would be totally acceptable and way better than having no birds at all. If they give us several pre-made aviaries in different styles that we can customize a little bit like the crurent exhibits and we can have different species together, that would be OK for me. And honestly, I don't even understand the hate for the exhibits. I think they look nice and you can do a lot with them. But that's one of my unpopular opinions I guess.

yeah I find it pretty easy to just cover up parts of the exhibits to "reshape" them, and stick other plants in there, stuff like that. My only concern with aviaries being similar to exhibits, is that I'd like mixed-species enclosures to be possible. And if there are certain birds that would otherwise work in mixed habitats with mammals, but then are designated as aviary birds, and we can't do that, well that would be disappointing.

Isn't it basically diving just not in the water? And faster?....Shouldn't be that more difficult than the whole swimming/diving mechanic 🤔

I am one of those who are still happy to have this pack and more than we say here, because in reality the game community includes many builders. When the animal packs come out, in a way, building enthusiasts are hurt but you don't hear them crying as much. Overall I find everyone very hard on this pack and everything that comes with it. You can't separate this pack from the update that comes with it, and quite frankly, the game hasn't made such a significant step towards its future since the Aquatic pack. Then I hear the disappointments about the roster. I think Frontier may have failed to assuage discontent by favoring the wombat over the Tasmanian Devil. I admit that I find it difficult to understand this choice myself, since the latter returned, just by its name, much more in the spooky theme claimed by the pack, rather than the very cute wombat. On top of that, they have accustomed the community to offering them each time the first animal on the whishlist (Capybara, Prewalski) and as often when we are so generous and then more reasonable behind, we are made to pay for it.

I also think that Frontier may have made a strategic mistake by emphasizing the most themed decorative elements, such as the cauldron, cobwebs, pumpkins and giant mushrooms. I think these pieces have a lot of potential for diversion (they're going to be great for creating kid play zones) but their omnipresence in the teaser tends to hide the great richness of the rest of the elements that we get, which are really at In my opinion (and because I'm a builder more than a manager because I play in sandboxes) extremely rich, after a somewhat soft conservation pack from this point of view, even if I already use a lot of its objects.

Finally, I find that a part of the community is overreacting even before seeing many of the new features of this pack. We haven't seen the animals in action yet, and the Raccoon model is really very good, I much prefer to have a successful, beautiful, well-animated skunk with believable behaviors, rather than an Amur panther that looks like a cartoon cat. We have not yet seen all the details of the objects that this update offers us, and above all, we have not yet been able to appreciate the real totem animal of this pack (very unfortunate that Frontier did not have it by the way not used like that on the visuals) what is this bat. What's more, we haven't yet seen anything about the workings of this new greenhouse-like exhibit that could well revolutionize the future of gaming and offer an extended lifespan to this game we love so much. Frankly let's be less harsh with what awaits us on October 18, which is by far one of the best signals for the future of the game for a long time.

Do we think it'll just be a scenery pack as they only alluded to 4 habitat animals? Although, I absolutely love the hypothesized lineup.
I'd been a bit disappointed if so, a forest/potentially nocturnal pack had so many opportunities.
You heard it here first, folks.

I was looking forward to the anticipated animal pack - but to me, this pack signals a very healthy longevity to PZ.

Firstly, the habitat animal roster. These are four great animals, and fill a fairly overlooked niche in the world of zoo simulation: cute woodland critters/your friendly forest friends.
Besides the beaver and badger, we really didn't much of those.

Excluding the wombat, none of them are all that high on the Meta-Wishlist, red Fox is somewhat up there in the 20s, but certainly not a top 10 AND THAT'S A GOOD THING.

It's obvious Frontier does pay attention to the wishlist and takes the community's wishes in mind when creating a pack. While the roster was excellent in the Conversation Pack - supplying the two most requested animals, a variation of high contender and an equally desired behavior, and ZT2 holdover - I couldn't help but feel like Frontier might have been trying to crank out the fan favorites before closing its doors - that is no longer a concern to me.

I doubt they'd risk an end of life slot on more obscure picks if the end was indeed in sight.

And of course, the bat. This is game changing, and as many have pointed out: the first true evidence that flighted birds and aviary might finally, FINALLY be a reality.

I'm very pleased and very eager to buy the pack!

I could see a difference in that in diving the "walls" are the ground they already interact with, and the animals are allowed to surface through the "roof".

Maybe doing it with a custom roof and walls is harder.
But not impossible...That's why I don't think we will get flying birds with the winter DLC....because I see the bats as a first ingame test (it's often cheaper to release a product without knowing if it really works...and the big amount of users "improves" it with reporting all the possible problems/bugs.....)

Agree....they definitely won't stop (as long as the person who makes the decisions in the company isn't a complete idiot....what I highly doubt he/she is) the support after adding a completely new game mechanic (and I would even think that the support might continue at least until the end of 2023....maybe even at least more 2-3 years)

I think that it'd be harder because diving is limited to just the pool of water. Free flying would be trickier to implement, I think, with the construction pieces
Maybe with new null barriers that have an endless height (to just draw the airspace where the game will have to calculate in)...and some kind of netting mechanic for the height limitation 🙈

Basically you just need to form some kind of “box” whether regular or irregular in shape. It would be bound by the roof and ground, whatever shape that is in the same way that swimming is bound by the surface of the water and the bottom of the pool.

Exactly

For small birds they could build aviaries/exhibits that are between the existing small ones and the big one for the bats (like the typical smaller aviaries in zoos)...But for larger birds (especially sea birds or raptors) they definitely need to ad something that can be customized in size and space 🙈

it would sure be interesting if flying bird ended up both using the exhibit method and an all new method-- different depending on the species. This would of course require they rework the exhibits to include mesh and different sizes and shapes though.

I could imagine that they are trying if flying mechanics are working.... And when this works within the new exhibit, it maybe will later work for birds too....
I don’t mean to burst any bubbles, but there really isn’t much Frontier will need to test with the new larger exhibit. It will function pretty much the same as our current smaller one, and the animals inside will too. The bats will be on a looped, pre-defined animation. Mechanic-wise, there really isn’t anything different/new happening with the walkthrough exhibit from what we already have.

1000x this.

Everyone needs to calm down on the bats. Yeah, it's awesome that we're getting something like that, but it's not this whole new special system. It's an exhibit animal.
