Newcomer / Intro Upgrading from H4.0 to Odyssey

Hey all,

I was wondering how long it will take me and how much more space upgrading to Odyssey after upgrading to Horizons 4.0?
For hdd space and time and all that.
Is the O update a whole new full update or will it just "unlock" the content downloaded in H4?

Cheers

Since your EDH4.0 directory is called "elite-dangerous-odyssey-64" then you should not have to download anything. That is just my assumption as I am one of those people that FD hates and didn't give access to EDH4.0 - otherwise known as an Odyssey owner. ;)

It might also be called "FORC-FDEV-DO-38-IN-40" in which case you could probably just rename it to "elite-dangerous-odyssey-64" and that'll probably work.

Oh that's a beta version directory name - I read that some Steam installs were using that FORC-FDEV file naming, how confusing.

Depends on a great many factors: your internet speed, your computers power, are you on a HDD or SSD, etc.

Back when I upgrade to Odyssey on Steam a few months back it took me about 10 minutes, but I do have a pretty good system and a gig connection speed. I didn't pay attention to the disk space because I have a 2 TB SSD. I think it was around 30 gigs or so.

My EGS alt’s install is under that directory name as well. The actual contents still seem to be identical to actual Odyssey though.

I'm curious about this myself. I think, based on what I've read, that if you are using Steam, it forces you to download Odyssey from scratch even if you already have H4 installed, because H4 installs from the launcher and not via Steam (unlike Odyssey). But if you buy Odyssey from Frontier, then it's basically an "unlock code" that enables Odyssey features in the 4.0 files you've already installed.
