Serious problem!

So last week I was doing a tutorial on how to do stations to get mats as well as looking for a good high security location. I did the location 5 times and one of those times the station was powered down and bandits were there (that was actually the first time). I restored power and the place was fine. Ive raided it 4 times afterward, and I was talking about fdev and such during my streams. However this week every single time I go to this location (inson dredging base in Pell system (A7)) is shut down, either with guards (legal guards) or bandits! I restore the power and waste one of my power regulators. Then come back and its power off with no one there. I think that FDev was watching and deliberately shut the station down so I can't farm from it anymore.... why the hell would they do this? Like seriously, it's a video game AND furthermore they are the ones that programmed the resetability of supercruise 25k above any station then come back and its reset.... If they don't want people to "exploit" this then they could take all the settlements in the game and have them programmed with a 7 day cool down or so and have work in progress of the reset (NPC workers "working" on the station as it is cooling down) then they dont have to MANUALLY shut off a station at all! and no the system is not in chaos and the station isn't either. What is going on here and why?????

Nearly every action you and other players do in the game has an effect on factions. They can push the factions into certain states, some of which lead to settlements being shut down.

If you streamed yourself raiding a settlement (especially if it's one named in a tutorial), that will probably lead to other people doing the same. Eventually that will trigger a negative faction state and the settlement will go offline to reflect it. It'll stay like that until enough people do enough positive work to revert the faction state that caused it. You can't just power it up once and expect it to go back to normal.

In short, congratulations; you dug your own hole.

This one.

States control whether a base is active or not, and repeatedly hitting a base will induce those states.

Once they enter that state, they don't come back til the state is resolved.

Edit: to be explicit, just repowering the station once won't do it... the relevant negative state must be resolved.

This.

As soon as something is on youtube or reddit, it quickly goes to hell, but not because FD shuts it down but because the sheeple flock to the system and
drain it until it runs dry. Business as usual.

Learn the BGS and find your own place, and by god be quiet about it :ROFLMAO:

Yep, this is that "player's actions should make a difference to the galaxy" that people keep alternately complaining the game doesn't have enough of and has way too much of again.

But, good news, there are probably around 150,000 Odyssey settlements in the game, so you can probably find a similar one in the state you want much quicker than repairing this one would be.

The other side of this coin, if you are short of power regulators, you can steal one, jump to supercruise, travel for a few seconds (its way less than 25k) and then turn back...

... and as long as you haven't gone through a BGS tick, it will have reset.
Of course, stock up on enough regulators and you will have done just what you are seeing now..

They were bragging with 400,000 new settlements at Odyssey launch.

Just dont.
Or at least learn a bit about how the game works in advance...

Looking at the average settlement count for systems I've fully catalogued, and scaling up to the number of inhabited systems, that seems very plausible.

If that's true the Hot & Messy cmdrs have their work cut out.

Well, the number is in the Patch notes for Odyssey launch - i would assume it's true
Else they could have gone the route of and many bug fixes settlements 😂

Sadly the quote function doesnt work on the post with the patch notes.
  • Added 400,000+ settlements
  • Added 8,000+ planet ports

Elite automatically crashes/presents a game breaking bug at the slightest hint of someone having fun.

I have no hard evidence to prove this, but I believe it with all my being.

That isnt what happened and in fact if you go to the system and as i stated IT IS NOT in any negative state AT ALL. IN fact everything is in the positive, quite well, and if you target the settlement and go there and even look in your system information there is no notice of shut down or anything in lockdown or anything negative.
