Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

We have uncharacteristically 75° F temp today and all of our windows are open and the wind is blowing through the house...

A few minutes ago, I was walking through the living room and looking out the windows at the woods across the street. I saw a few moss covered rocks and thought "oooh, stratum"...

I mostly have as well, because the Issue Tracker is ridiculous (and it's buggy as well).

The System Connectors problem is on there, it's acknowledged, and voted on, and everything. Still no fix, or even a mention about it by FD.

They fix what they want to fix it seems, regardless of what we think is important.

They also tend to break other stuff when fixing things, so maybe it's all for the good.

They'll fix the connectors issues and then...suddenly, something else that seems entirely unrelated will be broken. It's been the pattern for years.

So I try not to dwell on it cuz it doesn't help! :)
Another bug they need to fix is the not being able to apply certain suit liveries. It has a report and has been acknowledged and has been upvoted and has had a Dev-ish post by Sally.

Don't think they know how to fix it yet though.

I bought the Vintage Suit Pack and it is COMPLETELY bugged. The colors are all wrong, you have to mix and match parts and there isn't one single suit color that actually works.

Search for a thread IIRC .... You know your playing too much Elite when...... good for a laff

I always like to punk right handers whenever I get the chance by letting them try my computer out. Everything is reversed. Mouse is actually left handed, sits on the left of the keyboard, the right click is their left click and vice versa.

The keyboard is also mapped backwards. WASD are the arrow keys. F12 is F1, F1 is F12.

I sit and laugh while they rage about how on earth I can possibly operate that way.
I am usually right handed, but had to switch my mouse hand due to my RSI issues being worse on my right hand.

But the arrow keys always have been my goto keys if it came to directional input (way back before analog sticks were a thing).
WASD somehow never worked for me, I would have to turn the keyboard in such an awkward angle to be able to use these that It would make it impossible for me to type something on it without rotating it 90° and back to play.

Laser Mining? If so...are the hot spots in an inner "Metallic" ring?

While I have found some with nothing recently...I'm, seemingly, having good luck with Platinum laser mining hot spots in inner "Metallic rings...My carrier is parked at one now and I'll be mining again in my next play session...
Well I'm using Plat Mining for my new PC CMDR in the black at my newly discovered double overlapping Plat HS in Pristine Metallic ring and it is completely normal - 40 minutes get 180TPlat along with Os, Pain and Pall up to 256T.
I'll try for an hour later tonight and let you know how I get on after pub.

My PS CMDR is doing combat CG - Oppose Az - as I haven't got the hang of changing to Combat on Geforce now controller.

I saw this vid when I looked up Artificial Gravity space travel (as depicted in The Expanse). It is impossible unless you have 1G constant acceleration to a halfway point then turn and decelerate by 1G for rest of journey (chem rockets can't do that yet).
Spinning artificial gravity is impossible on any moving starship or even tethered starships (See video of this spinning object on ISS).

Really? I wonder if they make a lot of money from it? I remember in the Marines the south paws would get hot brass down their shirts from firing the M-16 if it didn't have a brass deflector on it. They would jump up and start doing a jig at the rifle range, of course.
I wouldn't think they make a LOT of money, but at 10 bucks for a deck I'm sure they make a little.

I can't imagine having to fire an automatic rifle that wasn't left handed.

I would just switch to right handed in that case. With guns, I'm ambidextrous, so it doesn't matter.

Those brass deflectors are pretty slick, they screw on the upper receiver above the ejection port, they're made from hard plastic, problem solved. If I were on their right on the firing line, their brass would fly over me. My buddy had one and if he ended up on my right, he would cant his rifle so his brass would hit me in the head, he got a kick outta that.

After I had mapped the entire system where the Phanes is located, I decided to travel over to Guarijio to restock on Imperial Shielding mats. On the way there, I did some more scanning and mapping of systems, mainly to train the mapping process a little more. In Guarijio, I docked at Arend Stop to get the ship freshened up and decided to pay Universal Cartographics a visit and sell them some data. They had a nice little surprise for me:

Who would have thought to find some unmapped systems in this neck of the woods?

Note that the system map itself does NOT label the zones low, medium, and high. There is actually no way to tell what they are from there, you have to go land at one to find out. For that reason I usually use the Frontline Solutions desk at first, so I know which zone to pick. After that I take my own ship :)

You can. I cannot say how tbh, but it's some obvious way, like either clicking the swords, or maybe you check CZ on planetary map by clicking swords there... Can't check atm, but this is handy, as firstly you might not be inclined to visit a starport at a point, then a war can happen within a system that does not have a starport at all (e. g. outpost only) and you go to the map to inquire where's the CZ, how far, is it high, why so far, is there a medium that 10 times closer, etc. On top of all this you may also decide to take a tour to all these 10 CZs in a system just for sightseeing. Generally i find myself unsure on what's the best method to go to a CZ - dropship gives you a time to get a drink, but dropship is both ways. I. e. instead of 2nd dropship you could be flying your own ship to a next CZ already.

One more little thing that i remembered - while flying your own ship you might be tempted to use your SRV to drive to the place, as why to walk when you have an SRV. In fact it's not that dangerous as one could assume, and you ain't getting exploded right away. Landing - deploying SRV - short drive and park - chosing a side. They ain't shooting you before you chose a side, and they often overlook a static SRV parked in a corner. One thing however is that if you get shot and redeployed, SRV will likely be exploded (Idk what's the mechanic behind, but can confirm it's very likely, and also can confirm that it's still not 100% - sometimes SRV survives). But that's not a big thing anyway, carry a spare or don't get shot. That way i was often losing 2 SRVs from my Cobra in a longer runs and had a project of some medium Ops ship with a big handgar.

I have heard (but not verified) that you can also log off and on while in your ship or SRV, and that will reset the zone

Yeah, that works. Indeed you need to be in your ship / SRV. I usually don't relog, i've only tested it for the science.
Does it depend on their rank? Sharpshooters, Commandos etc. One lot of them are pretty tough nuts.
I think it's by weapon. Sharpshooters equipped with plasma (hmm or rockets?), peasants with the sticks and such. Can not remember the names, but they're clearly classified to melee, rocket, sniper, etc.
