Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

So I've been in the FDL for the last two hours. I took on these missions:

All total, I had to kill 104 pirates. They were all threat level 8 missions, all zones level 4 with nothing less than Deadly ranked fighters.

I just finished.

I'm at 72% of the way through Master right now before I cash everything in.

All of that for 4%. That's it. 4 freaking percent.

It's just stupid in the extreme. And these are the hardest missions available to me.
I don’t think it helps to keep checking how your progress is going a bit like a watched pot never boils.

Unless you have other reasons for doing missions I would suggest just visiting Combat Zones, Haz RES or Compromised Nav Beacons and only bother with the highest ranked opponents.

You're missing the point entirely.

I'm at Master rank in combat. That's the exact equivalent of Broker on trade rank.

To get from Broker rank to the next level which is Entrepreneur, you need 140,000,000 worth of transactions.

That run I just did for combat at Master rank provided me with 115,000,000 worth of transactions by itself - including the warrants plus the payoffs for the missions, yet only netted me 4% of the level. In contrast to that, that same amount of effort in trade would have netted me 82% of the next level for Trade.

What's more, I had to chase down and kill 104 fighters over the course of 2 hours to do it. All I have to do in trade is spend 45 minutes to an hour mining platinum and boom! Instant level.

It's complete .

200.000.000 Cr just to allow a bunch of buccaneers to get wasted in my ship, slaping my waitresses butts and singing saucy ballads, I must be mad. I'll do that in Colonia.

But combat progress has the square root of bu@@er all to do with the bounty values. It is based on a weighted kill-count. The number of kills weighted by the relative rank of the kill - I don't know what the actual numbers are but the weighting can be found in this table:

I don't think I have ever got higher than Deadly in either of my accounts since I started playing in 2015 (admittedly with long breaks) - the highest ranked at the moment is Master I believe (I used to reset periodically). I certainly think it is the most awkward rank to progress in.

I understand that. Again, you're missing the point.

Every rank in this game is money based EXCEPT for combat. You wind up doing roughly 225% more work to gain a single combat rank than you do any other rank in the game.

To go from a simple Master to Deadly rank in combat will, by my estimation, take roughly 250 hours of non-stop bounty hunting. One can achieve that same rank in any other field of endeavor in the game in less than 2 to 3 hours with relative ease.

That is the point.

Mining then... I'm not seeing any lowering of yields in my platinum field,
I actually did some yesterday and it went well. I find it hard to believe that in the bubble is better than out in the middle of nowhere, but that seems to be the way it is.

Although, to be fair, I still have not found any core mining as good as the monazite spot @CMDRQuainMarln found on his expedition last month. I don't think there was ever an instance where I mined a core in that field that wasn't within sight of the next core or two. It was amazing.

Not "again" - that was my first comment on these remarks of yours.

Secondly, yes I agree about the unequal progress requirement, I did say so.

Finally, the reason I posted the chart was in response to your:

In other words, you know it isn't based on bounty value but you raised the money and so I just put up the comment and chart so that anyone who didn't know would see it.

I seem to have found a bug in an on-foot CZ just now. Battle had hardy started when suddeny no more enemy soldiers appeared, even after I'd waited a few mins. Anyway I'm trying a different one in the same system now. Mercenary rank now Rookie anyway.

Anyway before long I think I'll go back to exploring, in the direction I was going on my one yesterday that I had to abandon.

Some CZ's are bugged like this - very annoying. I've found it mostly in mediums. Sometimes, the "status" or "points counter" is absent so you can't tell what the score is.

Me feel like Mandalorian~!!

Yeah when I jetpack up in a combat zone I remember the originals when Boba Fett flew up, over the sarlac pit or something, pshhhh pewpew now I see what he was on about! That's us now!! A long time from now, in a galaxy not at all far away!

So by the CMDR Gomez Addams formula, we may theoretically enjoy combat progression 225% as long as other ranks. Perhaps, perhaps more depending on the pilot skill set.

For example, I went from Tycoon to Elite II on trade on a weekend.. anticlimactic.. haven't traded since. Mega yawn! But, I might have had inherent skills and seen the mountain on trade long agi in Endless Sky and Trade Wars. Whereas, 3d combat..

For me, combat over time has become a more challenging and worthwhile pursuit! Enjoy!

The one where I found it was a low. I'd like to do a medium as managed to win one of those in another system but there's now no more conflicts in that one. The system I'm in right now has 15 CZs going on but they're all low.

For lulz and fun times, try a hgh. Those are at the top of my ability and I always die and get redloyed a few times. Payouts are nice though.

I had to do it. Here's the T-10 doing an Odyssey mission. :p
