Free access to one of 5 new ships

Alrdy we've had a lot of people over speculating on what this actually means.

Here's my take on what this means

Currently in beta if you have the credits (i don't) you can fly both the Federal dropship AND the Imperial clipper, well im betting you cant at full release,There Faction ships you'll need standing with that faction not just the credits to fly one of them

im betting most if not all the 5 new ships are faction ships and cant just be bought with credits

So access to one of 5 new ships will give us a chance to fly a faction ship as soon as you have the credits,to introduce opportunities to shoot down player faction ships etc.

Possibly you can gain extra faction with the Empire shooting down a Federation and vice versa,of the five there might be a fed fighter and imp fighter and once you choose one cant fly the other

The key word is access it will just mean a certain amount of faction credit like going to Sol,All players will be able to build faction standing to goto Sol and Fly faction ships

Anyway thats my take on it anyone else think its bigger that ?

My only question is. Will we get these ships on release of the game, or release of the ships? I would like to start playing this game on release and not wait 6 months for FD to patch this game "finished".

I don't think this game will be "finished" on release. Hopefully pretty stable, with plenty of features. Do please remember that FD plan to add many features, areas, DLC and so on afterwards, and that includes some ships.
Personally I think it will be nice to be flying 3 months from now and come across a ship you haven't already seen a hundred times, and the same at 6 months and so on. It will make the place feel more alive.

Its fine having extra content come later. Its a positive. Every game does that but they usually charge. It keeps it fresh.
Having core gameplay features come later like mission structure and simulation additions, not so much.

I would hope the basics are in but it sounds like even that wont be the case.

Imagine flying your Anaconda about for 6 months, then it suddenly halting dead as all of a sudden it now requires a 10 man crew to operate :)

I will probably do what I do with most of the games. I'll finally start playing Elite as there is no wipes. I play it for 50-200 hours until I run out of things to do and then never touch it again, unless something really major happens. Like Civ 5 had BWN expansion which was different enough to boot the game again.

I could wait until Elite was more "finished" but I don't want to wait forever. I have been waiting to play Starbound for example years, but now it is in some kind of development limbo and it seems it will never be officially released. Same with StarDrive. It was released basically in beta state, never patched and developer moved to develope StarDrive 2. Better just play the game when it interests than wait for "miracle patches".

I am sure I will have many fun hours with Elite.
