What would be your Rare in Zoos Pack?

Thought about the Fact that Macaws would probably work pretty well as Habitat Animals due to how little they fly in Captivity (just give them the Ability to jump very high and far while flapping their Wings and add the Ability to perch on Logs and Branches) so I've moved the Spix Macaw from the Exhibit Section of my List to the Habitat Animals and now my Pack is full because I've added what might be the rarest Fish in the World. The Mangarahara cichlid, a Fish from Madagascar which is extinct in the Wild. Thought I've read once that the Natural Habitat is completely gone due to Cultivation into Rice Fields but it turns out that a Part of their Natural Habitat still exists, so they could also be released into the Wild someday👍

I thought I’d give the challenge a go although I have mixed feelings about very rare animals. I know it’s just a game but it would feel weird having the ability to pump out digital Sumatran rhinos when they are so rare in captivity and endangered in the wild.

On the other hand, the (presumably) not unlikely longer support for the game means I feel a bit more positive about less common animals in captivity.

My concern was that it would be frustrating to have a Sumatran rhino when the game still lacks a red-necked wallaby but I am feeling slightly more relaxed about that sort of thing now.

So I’ll have a go starting with…

A very charming and engaging animal not completely absent from captive environments, if very rare. Could conceivably be found in a South East Asia zoo but would further underline the need for a fixed Malayan tapir as I wouldn’t build a zoo in that part of the world until the tapir is fixed. I’ve never seen one.

Another likeable animal. I would probably build a central Asian zoo if we got this or perhaps at a push some could turn up at my new Central European zoo having been held most recently in German and Czech zoos. Frustratingly I was in Cologne when they still had them but for various reasons never made it to the zoo at that time.

I don’t know how many zoos in China have these so it could be stretching the definition but they are definitely rare outside of China. I was lucky to see them in two zoos in Japan when I was younger.

Currently in seven zoos in three countries, a beautiful animal that is a great example of how captive breeding can save a species. I have seen them in Madrid but they were a no-show in Lisbon.

Abruzzo chamois

Currently only held in one zoo to my knowledge - Munich where I saw them. It would be great to have the chamois alongside our ibex.

Four zoos in Europe, a couple (?) in Japan where I saw them, one in Singapore, four (?) in the USA which I think just about qualifies for this thread.

Now unknown in Europe (many zoos kept them in the past) and as far as I know, the only individuals kept elsewhere are rescues. I have never seen one.

For an exhibit, does the tuatara count?

:D now I definitely know in which Zoo to keep them if they should ever make it into the Game

I'd prefer the normal Chamois but this one also looks pretty good with its greyish Fur. Wouldn't be too mad if we would get this one instead

Those would be really nice to have👍

Also only heard about rescued Elephant Seals being kept nowadays. Don't know though if any Zoo actually has them on Display. I know that at least one SeaWorld Park keeps them behind the Scenes until they can be hopefully released again

Pretty sure they are really rare in Zoos so I don't see why it shouldn't count

Pittsburgh Zoo has one on display. They had another one that was blind I think so would never be released but that one died.

Interesting. Didn't expect that 👍
Wow, that's a unlucky Seal. Good that she has a permanent Home now.

,,Young northern elephant seals are left on their own at such a young age, that many don’t develop their natural instincts, such as foraging for food or finding shelter.” weird that they aren't more common in Zoos then🤔

-African Forest Elephant (seems to be only kept in 3 japanese Zoos nowadays and maybe at one african Zoo but might no longer be alive. There wasn't a Age mentioned for the one in Abidjan Zoo. That one doesn't seem to be very successful at keeping them though😕 so many died in Abidjan Zoo since 1993
Two before the one which held the male loaned it to the one which holds the female.

Ironically, I've never seen a bobcat in a zoo. Only in the wild on the family's land up near Longview, TX.

Saw him/her 3 times:

  1. Once on a hay bale in a big open field. Just relaxing, then it noticed us and ran off
  2. Once at night when we did a safari (which is when we go look to see what animals we find). Near the same field
  3. One time in our yard, which is also very near to that same open field

But anyways, bobcats are pretty animals, and it'd be kinda cool to have one, although the lynx is enough for me, to be honest

I guess this thread is similar to yoav's "What oddball unlikely animal do you want in the game?" so I may as well just repeat what I said on that thread.

Well, I already want some of the animals that have been mentioned on this thread, here some others that I want which I did not see on this thread

Common Brushtail Possum: I know this animal is mundane in Australia, despised in New Zealand, and extremely obscure elsewhere. I wish these furry wonders could get some more relevancy.

African Civet: I wouldn't expect this animal to come out especially when we still don't have more known African carnivores such as honey badger or bat-eared fox.

Greater Bushbaby: I don't even know if small climbing animals could make it to the roster of the game, but a man could just dream

I am aware that these guys are not too rare but they don't pass 50 holders in the AZA nor EAZA to I'd call that rare enough. Just like I have said on the other thread there are animals that are already mentioned. If I can let my imagination go wilder I would like the following.

Rakali: they are like otters but are not. Isn't that quacking crazy?
1670456849253.png

Pacarana: I am just a big sucker for large rodents
1670456739864.png

Plains Viscacha: They are nice guys. I wish I got to see them more than once.
1670456233259.png

Mountain Viscacha: For those tho do not like their viscachas plain.
1670456252453.png

Bornean Bearded Pig: Sadly it looks like they are getting sent to the shadow realm in the zoo world. I hope they can get relevancy through another platform such as a zoo building game. One can only imagine...

That's all I can think of so far...

We should campaign for a "Cat Reskin Pack"; Asiatic lion, Sumatran tiger, Persian leopard, and, I don't know, Iberian lynx? Bobcat?
Truly need this but maybe after they are out of idea and start having species themed.

1) Asian Lion
2) Sumatran Tiger
3) Persian Leopard
4) Bobcat
5) House cat for a cat cafe in a zoo. haha
