My visit to the Amazon Rainforest

They look prehistoric. It's crazy. And they are so calm, they just sit together.

Add them to the list of species that don't exist in zoos but I want in the game anyway.

Actually, why are there no Hoatzins in zoos? Couldn't find a source on it.
Looking at Zoochat (not a scientific source, of course), it seems like they are simply "hard to keep alive". They have a specific diet. Bronx Zoo kept a pair in the 90's and successfully bred and reared four chicks but their group died out.

It's a pity further attempts haven't been made.

I love that animals you saw signs of included the jaguar. Maybe he saw you 🐱 Seems like you had an amazing trip, i am not jealous at all

Would be awesome if it might be possible someday again to see those in Zoos. Don't know though if the Breeding Population would need to start from Rescue Animals that can't be released back into the Wild🤔 or are there any Cases nowadays of wild Animals being caught for Zoos? (Only know about one Case where a Man eating Tiger was brought to a Zoo but never heard about any other recently wild caught Zoo Animals)

I know that, at least in the pet trade, many are captive bred now instead of being wild caught. For larger species, like arowanas and arapaima, I am not sure
It is a bit of both these days I believe. At least when it comes to saltwater, you will still find a lot of wild-caught. Breeding saltwater fish species in captivity is still a fairly new thing, so the number of species it can be done with is limited.

Edit: This got off-topic I guess

Well, I've been to the Amazon basin in Bolivia, I SAW A FREAKING JAGUAR IN THE WILD. And we're only halfway through. And that's like a 1 in a 1000 chance according to the guide.

It was only for 10 seconds, but it was amazing. It came to drink from the river when we were passing on a boat.

Aside from that I've seen spectacled and black caimans, a ton of Capybaras, a coati, a Jabiru stork, a yellow anaconda, squirrel and capuchin monkeys, and many many birds.

A capuchin monkey stole my friend's food.

I'll keep you guys updated.

What a wonderful trip!! You’ve inspired me to go someday (absolutely bathed in bug-spray!). I’m very happy for you that you got to see so many animals, and a little jealous - hopefully the rest of us can see some of these guys in Planet Zoo one day 😉

I hope so. Seeing them in the wild also gave me some measure of which zoos hold them properly. Most unfortunately don't.

Asking a general question, which zoos have you been to that hold animals in proper enclosures that fit their needs?
